And the rep used to matter too, but I don't see much difference there either. I see no-pay missions given by allied faction on a base. Even a follow-on mission as a reward for how great I did. There's no system right now. The pay should scale with the reputation. The pay should have a bonus bump if it's a follow-on mission. High risk missions should pay more. And long distance (in LY more than LS) missions should be more. Because right now, it's just complete and total random. My issue with the missions is that there's no method to the madness. Oh, and Luxury passengers should pay higher than economy. I don't see much or any difference there right now.I don't disagree. The mission board is supposed to allow access to missions based on your combat / trade / exploration rank with an payscale to match, which is then supposed to scale more the better your reputation is with the local faction - but this is still notoriously stingy even for Elite ranked pilots. This is my complaint.
One of the things that's great with this game is that it allows that you can feel or imagine that you live in that universe, but with the current pay rate of the missions, it takes away those things. There has to be some resemblance of the "real world", market economy, people paying extra for extra work or extra risk, or it will feel just a game.
Personally, I'm going on a long expedition in less than two weeks. Until then, I'm doing missions to fill my time, but when I'm out there, I will be happily away from all these problems.

And to clarify, I'm not a supporter of hyper inflated mission rewards either, but FDev has to find some middle ground here that makes sense.
