2019: No Mediums Please

We have enough medium combat ships. Any new Imperial medium ship would of course be a non combat ship, like say for example an Imperial Explorer perhaps? :D

Adding the imperial explorer as anything other than a colossal whale of a ship that nonetheless completely lacks any kind of turret coverage wouldn't do it justice.

Facing a pirate iexplorer in FFE was a pretty daunting task. Sure you could fly rings around them in pretty much anything, but god have mercy on you if they ever manage to turn and face you.

I can't remember the last time we had a small ship added to the game.....actually, wasn't it the Viper MkIV?

2018 has been a medium-sized year for ship releases:

Krait MKII
Krait Phantom
Mamba
Chieftain
Crusader
Challenger

With all these mediums flying out the door, its ironic that were still waiting for a medium-sized Imperial ship. [weird]

In fact, the last non-medium ship released was the T10 for 2.4, back when Winter was Coming.

Enough mediums please, FD. Time for more small and large ship hardware (or even super large while you're at it).

Mediums are good though... everyone can afford one and they can do every activity well so makes sense the majority of ships would be a medium class.

So that's why I do want a medium!
I want at least 2 medium imperial vessels: A combat oriented one and a trader, or multipurpose Gutamaya design.

I'd be extremely happy with an Imperial version of the Python, with nacelles, some have proposed.
And an imperial competitor for the FDL would be great.

2019 should become an Imperial year as far as ships are concerned.

The Imperial Explorer already exists in ED, it's been renamed to the Imperial Cutter.

Following the FD recent trend of re-sizing/re-classing ships, and to balance things out a bit... the Panther Clipper, to be released in Q2 2019, will herald a new breed of SLFs with rear mounted turrets and landing skids.
Something like this?...

These days I find myself alternating between small ships and large ships, with little interest in any of the medium ships. In fact, I just realized I kinda fly "pairs" - a Dolphin and an Orca, and the Cobra III and the Anaconda. So you get my vote, OP!

* ironically two of the large ships really should be medium ships (we all know the two), so that makes for even less truly large ships compared to medium ones!

Yes I agree here. In particular, the Python has no peer doing highly valuable haulage missions to outposts, which are often the highest paying. And in general, non-wing haulage missions max out in the Python range of around 180-200t. The Python needs competitions and the missions system needs to scale up to the bigger ships.

Its nonsense that out of 38 ships, we have outpost haulage missions which only 1 ship can do in 1 trip.

I joined the Church of Imperial Explorers but my faith was betrayed by that 2-ship livestream for Chapter 4.

Don't get me started on the Panther Clipper. [blah]

True, but I don't think adding some small-only gameplay would hurt. Otherwise why would anyone fly a small ship when they have credits for mediums or bigger? Beyond smalls being fun to fly of course?

If only. That would mean 6 Imperial ships compared to 4 for the Feds and 3 for the Alliance. The resulting generation of salt would consume these forums and the known universe. :p

Knowing FDev it would be slower than any medium sized ships and about as maneuverable as a T-9 with undersized D rated thrusters.

To the OP:
Small sized ships are "dead". Medium sized ships are the new "small".

Small ships will never be dead as long as I'm around.

One.of the issues is CZs, in a fight between Imperial factions and independents or feds, you end up alone pretty quickly because the imperial clippers and couriers can't stand up to chieftains and FAS/FGS spawn .

FDEV kind of messed up here, and a medium imperial ship spawn would help fix the problem.

What, those psychics, who are all frauds, you mean?

Yes, Stephen Fry says it best, direct to camera:

I disagree with Mr Fry on this one.

I know I myself have a limited connection to the spirit world, and I'd tell him myself.

He is wrong.

16's not old enough to drink, you monster!

Well, I reserve the 30 year old for special occasions :) I tried a 12 once. It was really quite unpleasant :)

Edit: It finally dawned on me that I may have just missed the whole point of a very good subtle joke there... Sorry; I blame the heavy cold I have which is demanding a hot-toddy (made with cooking whiskey, not Lagavulin!)

You probably knew that iExplorer was a BATTLESHIP

Which is quite funny 'cos it was bad exploration ship...
