2019: No Mediums Please

I can't remember the last time we had a small ship added to the game.....actually, wasn't it the Viper MkIV?

2018 has been a medium-sized year for ship releases:

Krait MKII
Krait Phantom
Mamba
Chieftain
Crusader
Challenger

With all these mediums flying out the door, its ironic that were still waiting for a medium-sized Imperial ship. [weird]

In fact, the last non-medium ship released was the T10 for 2.4, back when Winter was Coming.

Enough mediums please, FD. Time for more small and large ship hardware (or even super large while you're at it).

96.7652% agree... (not fussed about super large)

But small ships.....

I WANT MORE NEW SMALL SHIPS.

Its nonsense that out of 38 ships, we have outpost haulage missions which only 1 ship can do in 1 trip.

I joined the Church of Imperial Explorers but my faith was betrayed by that 2-ship livestream for Chapter 4.

Don't get me started on the Panther Clipper. [blah]

True, but I don't think adding some small-only gameplay would hurt. Otherwise why would anyone fly a small ship when they have credits for mediums or bigger? Beyond smalls being fun to fly of course?

If only. That would mean 6 Imperial ships compared to 4 for the Feds and 3 for the Alliance. The resulting generation of salt would consume these forums and the known universe. :p

There are 6 Core Dynamic Ships to 4 Gutamaya

As in a Bell Curve, don't you expect for there to be more Medium (in the middle) sized ships, than those on either extreme? I do.

Personally I could do without any large ships, new or otherwise. Medium ships do it all. But I do expect there to be more Large ship offerings as we go forward.

And why exactly should the ship distribution follow a Bell Curve? Moreover, which variable would constitute the Bell Curve, weight, lenght, width, volume, height?

I'll take a small ship if it looked like this.

And could do this

Medium ships are the most popular ones for obvious reasons... big ships don't handle too well, except the Clipper, which I regard as a failed medium ship, and small ones are just underpowered in every regard. Can't think of any use for another small ship apart from racing. You are right, the Viper 4 was probably the last small ship... and how many players are you seeing in it? Small ships are just stepping stones to medium ones and we probably have enough stepping stones already.

When you visit CGs there are usually mostly medium ships apart from T-9s and Cutters on trading CGs obviously.

That being said, medium ships are probably the best paint job/ship kit sellers ;)

Bortas speaks wisely, and honorably. His words should be remembered.

As has been noted before, the Dolphin is small and rather nice for landing at those Guardian sites.
There is the issue with small hardpoints and the reduced damage to armor, who likes to skip on large targets if they are right in front of you just because you would need to rearm after it? Most players are able to skip several ships and might not even have tried them. Some new design to promote small ships would certainly be interesting.

Knowing FDev it would be slower than any medium sized ships and about as maneuverable as a T-9 with undersized D rated thrusters.

To the OP:
Small sized ships are "dead". Medium sized ships are the new "small".

Quite true. With the exception of the iCourrier with its speed combat builds while retaining good shields, small ships are boned.

Lowering their hull mass across the board would not hurt.

Nor would C4 perf enhanced trusters and maybe some special hulls for small ships.
