2019: No Mediums Please

Small sized ships are "dead". Medium sized ships are the new "small".

Small ships are very much alive and well in my game :D

Quite true. With the exception of the iCourrier with its speed combat builds while retaining good shields, small ships are boned.

Lowering their hull mass across the board would not hurt.

Nor would C4 perf enhanced trusters and maybe some special hulls for small ships.

and some decent small hardpoints to make outfitting better, or just access to what other ships can have.

AX
Seismic charges
Plasma
Flechette

they're others - etc.

best you can hope for in combat is... rails, or rails, even then the heat on the small rail is same as the med rail ?!?!? what black art is that?

meh my 0.02$ anyways

I can't remember the last time we had a small ship added to the game.....actually, wasn't it the Viper MkIV?

2018 has been a medium-sized year for ship releases:

Krait MKII
Krait Phantom
Mamba
Chieftain
Crusader
Challenger

With all these mediums flying out the door, its ironic that were still waiting for a medium-sized Imperial ship. [weird]

In fact, the last non-medium ship released was the T10 for 2.4, back when Winter was Coming.

Enough mediums please, FD. Time for more small and large ship hardware (or even super large while you're at it).
Big YES......Big YES from me......+1

Funny, one of my favorite PvP encounters was when I sent a wanted CMDR fleeing a HAZRES - He was flying a Chieftain, and I was flying a Sidewinder armed with two burst lasers... He left with about 30% hull while I had full shields :D

I think we have enough small and medium ships now. The game needs more large. And some XXXLarge would come in handy too :)

I like mediums, though. They are fun and capable. Small ships are only fun, which is not bad, but it's better if you accomplish something while having fun!

No point in adding more small ships if we don't get small-ship-only gameplay: outposts and bases with small pads only, where there are unique commodities or mission rewards that are needed for tech broker unlocks; or perhaps specialist scanners that only work on small ships. Feel free to add your own suggestions.

I'd love to have a role for my Cobra, but frankly there's currently nothing it can do that a medium ship can't do better. Any new small ship would be in the same position - abandoned as soon as a player has enough assets to buy a medium.

My regular ships are Clipper, T7, T10 and Challenger, but I use my Cobra MkIII for planet surface mats gathering. Easy to land anywhere, and quick to get deployed. Deliberately using it for mats keeps me using it just enough to keep the love going.

I too would like to see more large ships as they are my favourite to fly in the game. However, the current ones we have are of limited usefulness in many situations because the game seems to be highly optimized around the Python. In particular the missions system badly breaks once you go past the Python. I really wish Frontier would add 600-700t solo haulage missions, I can't for the life of me understand why these are still not in the game. Why did I work so hard to get a Cutter again?

I do second this. Haulage missions for more than the usual 108T but less than the over 3000T missions would be brilliant.

How about, very small ship? Some really nimble nifty taxi?
Also please screw mediums.
Screw large.

I WANT MAH EXTRA UGE SPACE TRUCK!

Yeah I just got back from a 7 month ED break and one of the things that burned me out on Elite is the frustrating limitations of the missions system once you choose to fly any ship other than the Almighty Python. Anything larger than that makes your earning potential worse in many situations and that just feels wrong to me.

Even the other day there were missions for my Cutter in Daedalus/Sol for maybe 1.2-1.5Mcr for 120t and missions to outposts for 5-8Mcr for 120-180t. I saw this several days in a row. Of course the only ship in the game that can do those 5-8Mcr missions is the Python. I really hate that ship so much now but I have one because sometimes I do need to earn cash and I can't say no to those kinds of credits with limited play time. But I would have much rather have done large haulage missions in my T-9 or my Cutter which took me forever to get.

It's such a simple fix too. I can't imagine it would be hard to implement. Just add some 600-700t missions with payouts that are reasonable. Heck I'd even take the 5-8MCr Python cash.

Most people use a hauler as a taxi. I use either my DBX for it's jump range if I'm in a hurry, or my Dolphin for comfort, luxury end the entertainment system I have in the lounge...

*Frontier taking notes*
Mmhmmm, yeah, yup, absolutely, we understand what the community wants now.

*pen scratches*
No... ships... in... twenty... nineteen...

Perfect! Better inform Chris Gregory post haste.

I would go for a very specialized high end small combat ship. Fast and nimble with a C4 and 2xC1s. No cargo room, or room for anything else, but shields and a couple of utilities. kind of an f-35 type build, and just as expensive.

F-35 type? You want slow, not very agile, less firepower, and over hyped?

Man, people have weird design ideals these days...
