24 Hours from now, we will witness the future of Exploration

I'd love to be optimistic about the new exploration mechanics, but it's pretty hard. Frontier has such a history of getting almost to the finish line and then dropping the ball 20 yards short...fingers crossed, I guess.

Additionally, we have the fact that a lot of the old guard explorers were quite vocally in hate with the new mechanics when they were first announced. I imagine that by this time tomorrow the forum will be running amok with unhappy people. I hope I'm wrong, but that's where I'd put my money if I had to bet.

I'm still cautiously optimistic. I like what I've read so far, except for the honk being nerfed a bit too far maybe, thereby giving the explorer too little information before using the new scanner. But the Lucky 17 said there was an "elegant solution" for this, so I'll see what that is in about 45 minutes (I mean a few hours, once I'm home from work [mad]) .

Fingers crossed so hard I'm losing circulation to them...

Can't wait for this update and the effect of it on supercruise gameplay.

All commanders in a supercruise instance sitting absolutely stationary 1000ls above or below the entry star playing a solar system mini game for 10 minutes, totally oblivious and vulnerable to other commanders or NPCs wanting to interdict.

No problem my mistaken friend, you'll have to come out and find me first. [yesnod] :D

Thats because there are so many types of explorers. While the 'secret 17' said something was done with the feedback that we would like, I just cant see any system appeasing all types of explorers. I am sure there will be one topic where people who enjoyed what they saw say so, and a few dozen where every single person who didn't starts their own complaint topic. :)

My money is on:"My style of exploration demands seeing all relevant topographical info instantly, and anything demanding more than pressing one button is wasting my time."

What I do know is that everyone will likely have to adapt their playstyle a bit to continue playing. Personally I don't mind that as I like change (as long as the change is fun that is).

Yeah, I'm of the same mind on the matter. Personally, I'm just happy to see literally anything done to add to exploration because as it stands I ignore it completely. Setting aside a lot of tenured explorers who are apparently addicted to 1-button gameplay (two if you add the J button, I guess), I wonder how many players who have until now ignored exploration as a career choice will be enticed to change paths?

South East as well, more specifically just outside of East London. When I first heard the word back in school, it was in relation to Beta Particles, and the teacher pronounced it "bay-ta". Later in life when I learned a little bit of the Greek alphabet just out of pure interest and the letter is pronounced "bay-ta". Later still, I get into Elite Dangerous and hear Ed say "beeta" and just assume it was a regional thing... Now I'm just learning that Americans say "bay-ta" and we're supposed to be saying "beeta"? Sounds really strange to me.

That's ok. I know an actual greek person who tells me we pronounce PI wrong. I'm not about to run about to all my mathematical colleagues and pronounce it the greek way or they'd not know what I was talking about.

I like the proposed exploration changes. Honking and jumping and eyeballing was boring.

that's how language works. there's no right thing, just conventions. traditionally all majority languages (english, spanish, arabic) have achieved their expansion through bloody territiorial conquest, not on grounds of linguistic merits or some communication excellence. since xix/mid xx minority languages have been systematically and intentionally eradicated by states seeking uniformity and national unity. this is changing, but speaking is still a local thing. you should hear how english pronunciation is being 'abused' in european it shops. it's more than pronunciation, though, even choice of words and constructs are creating a new language some call 'globish'. much of it will eventually make it back into most english variations (there isn't actually one 'english', but many).

15 MINUTES!!!!!

I'm just listening as I'm at work and will likely be interrupted anyway, but at least I'll have an idea what to expect when I watch it in a few hours after I get home!

There is! The Queens English!

Not that I speak it mind.

Well she doesn't speak proper English for a start. RP is not natural English but a forced way of speaking to be devoid of a regional accent. Since her lot would probably all have German accents any way. RP only became a thing with the advent of radio broadcasts (IIRC).

call me sceptical.. but

ON THE LEFT: we have player expectation
ON THE RIGHT: we have the actual update

What's left is reality..

Time will tell. Hope i'm proven incorrect (and all this obsessive mystery can finally lift).
Hope for the best, expect the worst.

Oh I see, you are joining the strawman clan.
