25 AQUATIC animal META-WISHLIST

Inspired by the meta wishlist by @random goat , I want to sum up the most important aquatic animals for people (which currently don't fit game mechanics), especially with all discussion of aquatic species.

This could help us see which animals are most required for aquariums, for future updates and for inspiration, and for the Aquarium game discussion.

I will later sum up the animals in a list like the meta-wishlist.

The rules:

  1. Must be water dwelling animals
  2. Semi-aquatic animals (pelicans, otters, sea turtles...) are allowed
  3. small aquarium animals are allowed
  4. No aviary birds

Hmm... let me see... lotta good choices... although I fear quite a few are bit too small to make habitat status... probably wanna stick to larger animals... maybe something like this:

1. Sea Otter
2. Steller Sea Lion
3. Dugong
4. Blue Sharks (Prionace glauca). Kept in captivity once before in San Diego, until they added bull sharks to the tanks, which ate the blues.
5. Bull Shark
6 Epaulette Shark
7. Lake Titicaca Frog
8. Baikal Seal
9. Rainbow Trout
10. Beluga Sturgeon
11. Marine Iguana
12. Ocean Mola
13. Pacific Lamprey
14. Vaquita (I know that cetaceans are controversial for reasons that I don't agree with, but the mexican government is resorting to a captive program since they can not halt the loss of the species, with less than 60 believed to be left alive, and less than 10 are thought to be breeding age females.)
15. Devil's Hole Pupfish- This species has been endangered since 1867 and is found in only a single water filled hole in Nevada. In recent years they built a special tanks to house them which is currently the only successful captive population. It mimic the hole they inhabit naturally. I would love for a special exhibit to house them that's based on the one at Ash Meadows Fish Conservation Facility.
16. Northern Stargazer- this fish generate electricity from it's ocular (eye) muscles. Meaning it can shock you by looking at you. And it has poisonous spines.
17. Peters' Elephant-nosed fish, electrogenic, they navigate by distortions to an electrical field around them. Also, part of an group of vertebrates whose sperm cells lack flagella.
18. Blackfin Icefish- A member of the notorious Channaichthydae family that has lost hemoglobin expression. This species is also one of the four independent loses of Myoglobin from heart muscle.
19. Leafy Sea Dragon
20. Fire Eel
21. Giant Pacific Octopus
22. Six gill Shark
23. Eulachon -An anadromous Smelt.
24. Reedfish (Ereptoichthys calacaricus)
25. Pineapple fish

Honestly, so many really really cool species and groups of fish. Took me days to choose 25 fish and aquatic creatures. Plus I resisted controversial but obvious choices. Though I didn't want to.

2. Steller Sea Lion

21. Giant Pacific Octopus
