3.3 - heavy performance decrease?

o7 CMDRs!

Has 3.3 somehow have a very heavy performance impact with the new lighting system and all that stuff?

While before I was able to play on HIGH without any problems, I now had to tone the settings down to MEDIUM and still got a way worse performance than before...

Not noticeably, no, on either system I run. Someone in another thread reported that they were seeing more CPU usage than previously, leading to higher temperatures.

Download and install Afterburner (download links are right at the bottom of the page) and set it to monitor RAM, CPU usage, CPU temperature, GPU usage and vRAM usage in the on-screen display. That should give you an idea of where the issue lies.

What are your specs?

I didn't notice any change.
There is an issue where the game freezes for a few seconds, which is kinda annoying, but it has already been reported. Runs smooth for me apart from that.

I upgraded my 5 year old pc so it runs better for me. But does not seem to be that different to cause much higher loads.

New lightning system seems like a bunch of hacks slapped together to act as if you had real lightning from star so it shouldn't affect performance much/at all.

Don't get me wrong but whole 3D rendering system is just a bunch of hacks, smoke and mirrors slapped toghether to act as a real thing. Unless you have full ray tracing (not path tracing like RTX lol) then we'll always be talking about hacks and tricks. It's very easy for pc to render simple tricks to fool you than simulate everything.

I run ED on a Laptop with an i5-6200U 2.4 GHz, a NVIDIA GeForce 940M and 8 GB of RAM on medium to high settings.
I get around 25fps on planets and in stations and about 40 to 50 fps in space now, wich is about the same as pre-patch.
After the patch the framerates are more stable than before on my rig.

No real performance issues while playing, but the new patch did introduce an occasional 15 sec freezeup and sometimes a hard crash

When the 15 sec freeze occurs, the entire instance freezes it seems so when it happens in combat i wont have taken a bunch of damage in the meantime, wich is a
relief
Dont know what would happen in cmdr to cmdr combat but as i suspect its a server-side thing both commanders will probably freeze

I had the same issue for fullscreen mode (massive performance hit on a GTX 1070).
However, switching to borderless window mode and deactivating vsync restored performance to pre-patch levels.

Only place I've noticed a significant loss of performance is in some of the more heavily fogged and/or ice rings.

I noticed a decrease in performance on planets (Ryzen 1600 / Vega 56 / 16 GB RAM / NVME SSD). I played on Ultra + terrain generation to max right + 1.25 supersampling at 2560x1080@120Hz vsync off or enhanced sync.

I got 60-70fps on Dav's Hope, now with the same settings I have 52-60fps.

After I reset to Ultra and put just the 1.25 again, I managed to have around 70fps (so basically just resetting the terrain generation slider to the middle).

But I also changed the video driver, so it's hard to do an apples to apples comparison. And since in stations looks like the same as before, maybe the slider with terrain generation was the only thing that mattered or changed.

For me it`s really bad(Performance)now to fight in a HazRes,specially with MC when i open my Ship for others (network related?).
It`s nice to see more Pirates there but for me this feels abit overdone.

I play in VR and i see many artifacts (on the edges of Rocks) when i set the volumetric effects below Ultra. So no way for me to push the FPS this Way.

I have picture Freezes too.

Not seen any performance/temp issues in comparison to 3.2 (apart from the noticable server issues - which are getting better) Playing in 4k or in VR everything seems to be behaving the same, just a bit prettier :)

I've seen my frame rates tank since 3.3.

Every jump I get approx 40-45 FPS while near the star - even when it's behind me. As I move further away this increases to the frame limit of 60 I have set. However when I used to run uncapped I could see 200+ FPS while in SC and have no problem looking around the screen. Now the game will not even hold 60FPS when I do this. I did not have this issue while playing in the beta.

Oddly landing on planets has not changed to much from what it used to be.

Granted I only have an R390 8gb and i5 3470 but these have never given me any problems before in Elite while running in ultra.

Running 750ti and FX8320, and i am noticing drops.
Dropping in at a single star in Medium brings me down to 40FPS. Have to play in Low now.

FPS and Video Performance are increased drastically (also Video Card Temperatures are better now), but they introduced new freezes, I guess it somehow related with a network speed or may be servers load?, because they can be from 1 to 5-6 seconds long(same places, different days) . It can run smooth on planets or stations (these places loads GPU heavily ) and can be for 10 seconds in FSS mode ( where GPU runs pretty cool).

Ultra Shadows now use more resources in asteroid belts, but other than that, everything runs exactly the same for me.
My GPU can't cope with ultra shadows, so I just have them on medium.
