3.3 summary

  • A Panini sticker album powered by FTL comms, where you put your space flowers and space molluscs
  • Semi-persistent USS instances that you can farm until you're bursting
  • Built in discover-a-mole minigame
  • A multi-role medium ship that is fractionally different to another multi-role medium ship which was itself kind of an alternative to a previously existing multi-role medium ship
  • A ship which is not literally the fastest ship in the universe but might have been
  • Completely broken conflict zones either appearing outside stations, spreading lawlessness and confusing messages everywhere, in which war has become a team sport with a respectful ten minute silence between each round, or retreating away from you at massive velocities
  • Any kind of mission that involves finding and probably murdering space persons doesn't work any more, as part of a drive towards universal peace and harmony
  • Board-flipping is gone, but murder-farming now pays way more for doing way less
  • Three new kinds of mining dumped on top of the fourth olde way, which you only need 17 firegroups and 34 new keybinds to use
  • Infinite hyperspace limpets have put the tin foil hat brigade out of work
  • Fog, like, so much fog, fog and smears and glare on everything - you thought J.J. Abrams and his lens flare was a bit much, wait until you see the stupendous volume of monochrome fog on everything

Out of honest curiosity: can you describe the rest of your life in the same style?

Only if you are actually having fun or not.

Sure. In between the many crashes, and many freezes, and navigating the many many things that are laughably broken (I mean, what were the beta testers doing? lying around the pool drinking out of pineapples with a little umbrella all month?), I quadrupled my ten figure bank balance from the last four years in just one week. First time I've enjoyed this game in some time - a welcome respite from the utter stinginess and grind I associated it with previously.

I mean, what were the beta testers doing?
Trying to sort out their keybinds so they could test the new stuff?

But to be fair the Beta testers did a lot of testing, and reported back on how Fdev should have done things, instead of the way they did things, and because fdev had been working on this content for a good period of time, were unable to throw their ideas in the bin and reprogram everything the way the beta testers said it should have been done.

- Took me a while to figure out what you were talking about on the first line. And then it clicked. Ah, memories of my childhood.
- I like the new USS system, although I really wish they weren't always so far away.
- I'm quite liking the discovery whack a mole :)
- Well, yes, lol ... but it's also the best new exploration ship in YEARS. So definitely not complaining.
- Hasn't the Mamba been tweaked on today's patch to be among the fastest ships? It's on par with the Clipper and Orca. The only ships that are faster are the class 3 thruster ships equipped with enhanced performance engines.
- I haven't been into a conflict zone since the patch, so I'll take your word on it.
- Wait, what? I heard elsewhere that massacre missions now very generous payouts. I really need to take a look for myself later.
- Uhm ... murder farming? And didn't you just contradict yourself? I'm confused.
- I don't see a problem with them *adding* new gameplay to mining. It's not like it's gotten worse. Only better. I don't think ANYONE is actually complaining here.
- I'm assuming you mean infinite supercruise probes? Kinda needed to be that way given explorers are often out in the black for months at a time.
- Heh, I kinda like the fog. But then again, they also added night vision, and night vision makes *everything* better. Went bounty hunting the other day in a RES in a planet's shadow and night vision made it at all possible given the rocks were otherwise black on black, lol.

Yes;

Delivering less cargo to closer stations now pays more than delivery of much larger cargos to further away stations.
Notoriety never updates so can't be paid off.
Murder bounties now forced upon you for ships you never even seen.
You don't need to kill NPCs anymore as they will ram themselves to death on your shields. (Thats probs part of your peace and goodwill to fellow man stuff)
More fog to farm along with the salt.
VR is now borked.
New exploration is fast almost 'I Win' fast and pays more for I Win.
In case you didn't hear it the first time you deleted it, the game now spams you with 'Critical Mission Updates'
Even though you don't have any missions, mission targets will appear for you to enjoy.
Elite NPC AI when being beaten will run home to mommy. They never make it, but there's that sense of 'I beat the AI' type thing.
There are now CZs at station entrances.
The graphics are so awesome they are intelligent enough to stop so you rest your eyes.
