3 years without new ships and 6 years without new srv.

I think that finding a proper "place" for a new ship in the current roster could be quite difficult (besides panther clipper of course!...).
On the other hand having only one SRV in all this time is quite underwhelming, i was expecting at least a multiseat SRV in Odyssey, since they were promoting all the supposed teamwork (well, about that, they didn't even add on foot shared missions from the initial "release", but... well... you know).
There comes a point that you get burned from always flying the same thing.

Screw it, may as well add my worthless 2c before my next call starts.

New ships - more is always better, it's simply choice, be that visually, flight model wise or from a utility perspective. And there are still gaps that could be filled - Panther Clipper for huge (1,500t+) FC loading capacity, medium Saud, medium Guta, just for starters. Forza Horizon 4 has well over seven hundred cars, all modelled in great detail based on their RL counterparts; I've driven most of them, and I'd still want more. Not sure why people scoff at the idea of having more spaceships in a game about flying space ships, when there's less than 40 still, after seven years.

New SRVs - absolutely agree there could be at least one additional model (for hauling more than 2t of cargo - useful for ground scavenging), the problem really is I hoped for new models as part of EDO, but when it became clear that they didn't really add any new gameplay loops those new SRVs could be used for, it was clear to me that this isn't going to happen. Though the cargo SRV could already be used in the existing framework. Frontier obv believe otherwise.

I am still convinced that at least one new SRV will be introduced when the full launch will happen.
Aside from the leaks that we saw, the tutorial mission says that the SRV one has to loot is of the Scarab type, and in the new crotch panel, the Scarab window shows new icons pointing at its functions (shooting and cargo), as if more combos could be available.
Looks like everything is ready, and once EDO is finally up and running we might see all the additional content (whatever that may be) that has been held back.

Perhaps I am being too naive, but what I see points in that direction.
Whether it's mis-direction, it has to be seen.

In regards to these hypothetical new ships, what are they going to add to the game that one or more existing ships can't already do? I honestly can't think of anything.
In terms of current gaps I agree that the current ones do cover most cases pretty well, but there are some omissions ...

...conventional ships:
- for CZ balance purposes, the Empire really needs some decent medium combat ships, even if they are just shinier clones of the fed/alliance versions
- megavulture (medium, two huge hardpoints)
- small (or maybe Asp-sized "small medium") combat ship with SLF capability
- something in the "freighter" archetype around 200t total capacity, medium pad
- medium luxury passenger ship would be important if they fixed the terrible balance luxury cabins currently have

...weird stuff:
- small-pad fighter with only class 1 FSD (supercruise but not hyperspace)
- guardian-inspired design, bonus for using guardian modules, penalty for using standard ones
- some sort of surface-specialised ship which is taller than it's wide (needs a large pad for docks with hangars, but can land on small pads at Odyssey outposts and is similarly easy to find a spot for on rough terrain)

Agreed that it's definitely going to make any "interiors" work take even longer.

New ships would add little to the game. We do already have close to 40. Would an extra 1 or 2 really add anything of value? And people are crying for ship interiors which it might be worth remembering that if they want ship interiors done well, each additional ship adds extra work on that front.

New SRVs, well, even adding 1 would double the number of SRVs available, and was very surprised we didn't even get a Scarab variant with Odyssey. There were even screenshots that hinted at one. Maybe FD are holding them back for some strange reason.

Perhaps for you, but most certainly not for others (including myself).

Yes (already explained briefly)

People crying for ship interiors need to snap out of it and accept that ship interiors will never be a thing in Elite. They couldn't even adjust external details incl. the Cutter 'stairs' to fit better with Elite Feet. Or indeed even add a cheap & cheerful boarding animation (even though they actually did for both SRV and SLF).

Why they don't even tease it is beyond me - but I've come to accept that the continued silence around this should probably be taken at face value at this stage.

Agreed, some people will be happy with another ship or ten or a hundred. Is adding new ships a better use of those resources than adding other things? Hard to say, but since we are talking about adding SRVs as well, i'd say more SRVs > more ships. How many ships do we actually need though? Where does it stop? There will always be those who want more ships.

I don't think there is anything wrong with people wanting ship interiors. Whether it will happen... well, it doesn't seem likely, but all we can do is wait and see.

Looking at the 'finished' product we have, I would say yes :p (sorry, that was there for the taking!)

I really do not think a ship per year or two is too much to ask for, same goes for SRVs - though I will say that there's not much point to add new SRVs if those don't also come with new gameplay loops that they can be used for (I already mentioned one notable exception in a previous post). I secretly hoped for a combat SRV (given the existing settlement CZ structure, it may or may not be necessary - existing SRV does the job already), or even a mining one (needs a deeper loop than shooting at rocks as we have that already though). But there was literally nothing added that would enhance SRV gameplay. Not even the SRV scanner was updated to help with plant scanning. Nada.

Adding new ships don't require this, but they do add more choice all the same for those who appreciate it. And I'd say there's more players who would appreciate it than those who scoff at the thought of adding more.

No, there's nothing wrong with it at all wanting them (I've been swayed myself seeing the appeal after playing X4, previously I didn't care at all), I'm just saying that I firmly believe now after reading Frontier's statements more recently (including between the lines as so often is required with them) and also what we have in the game today that pinning any hopes on this being part of the game is a fool's game imo.

Its FD. Do you think they would spare the resources to add both?
At $40 for the DLC it would've been nice, yes. But also yes, it is FDev.
But ok, a ship or two a year. When should they stop?
When they pull the plug of the game or announce a sequel?

You know what I would've done - sell ship packs for money instead of coming up with Elite Feet Only DLC. That seems to work pretty well for other games (and I'm not talking about that other game), and it would keep the player base in the same sandbox if updates to that could be provided for free instead. They could've even been more adventurous in merging gameplay together a bit more between EDH and EDO, as opposed to ring fence it like they did.

Edit: the only problem would be the price point - when a sub-par low effort ship kit can cost around a tenner or more (I forget the Arx exchange rate now) I suppose they'd need to rebalance their Arx prices a bit because I wouldn't pay more than 10-15 Euros for a single ship.

I really don't get this "I've been waiting so long for new ships and a new SRV". The SRV we have is almost perfect, the same goes for our ships, including their numbers. That's by far the least of FD's problems, and I wonder why some people feel they need to support Frontier in making uninspired decisions. They can do that quite well on their own, believe me.

I've not been waiting for "stuffz" but I certainly would welcome a
Combat focused SRV (maybe lacking cargo)
Hauling focused SRV (maybe lacking pew pew)
Research focused SRV (bio scanner,no pew pew)
Fun focused SRV / hover bike of sorts (just because)
We already have a jack of all trades, so to speak.

Legs are ok, but legs are slow. I wonder how far people actually walk from their ship, when exploring / exobiology (not doing base missions).
I know that I personally, don't venture more than about 200 meters from a vehicle on foot.

Chris Roberts, is that you?
I thought I was clear about that in my post...

Seriously though, racing games sell car packs, flight sims sell planes, they don't have to cost an arm and a leg (and given the overall fidelity of ships in Elite they shouldn't).

Sure, there might be a PvP argument if one of the paid-for ships turns out to be meta, but since I got easily ganked in a vanilla Cobra by an engineered Mamba last night, without being able to do anything other than wait for the rebuy screen, and since it was the first time since EDO that another player actually shot at me, I don't think this is a huge concern.

It's a moot point now anyways, given Frontier went down a different route instead - and I'm not asking for paid-for ships now, but I would've preferred it over a pricey DLC like EDO, where that content would've been a free update for all players.
