30 essential animals meta-wishlist

Thread Closed: Not open for further replies.
It was really hard to limit myself to just 30 animals, I kept thinking of animals that I want in this game and having to delete others from my list. :'(
In some cases i didn't mention a specific species as I don't mind using a species that looks similar (I keep using the Nyala as a sitatunga in my zoos lol )
So here is mine, in no particular order:

1)Meerkat
2)White rhino
3)Shoebill stork
4)Secretary Bird
5)Asian small clawed otter
6)Californian sealion
7)A gibbon (any species)
8)Maned wolf
9)Capybara
10)Walrus
11)Moose
12)Aardwolf
13)Fossa
14)Binturong
15)Fennec fox
16) Old world Porcupine (any species)
17)Cougar
18)Muntjac (any species)
19)Blackbuck
20)Howler monkey (any species)
21)A small penguin (any species)
22)Squirrel monkey (any species)
23)Addax
24)Golden or golden-headed Lion tamarin
25)Grévy Zebra
26)Langur (any species)
27)Colobus monkey (any species)
28)Nilgai
29)Golden takin
30)Wild donkey (any species)

Could/Would Frontier that design and create Planet Zoo accept any 'requests' and ideas from us and this forum? Otherwise, what's the point?
For me, here's what I hope this game will have.

Middle Eastern desert:
  1. Dromedary Camel (domesticated)
  2. Scimitar Oryx (extinct in the wild)
  3. optionals: Striped hyena and African spurred tortoise
North America:
  1. Cougar/puma/mountain lion (especially Rocky Mountains subspecies)
  2. Moose
  3. Lynx
  4. Musk Ox (Were there musk ox in zoos?)
Africa:
  1. African leopard (to complete the Big Five)
  2. Either black or white rhinoceros (to complete the Big Five)
  3. Meerkat
  4. Any baboon species
  5. optionals: Nile crocodile and another giraffe species
Asia/Eurasia:
  1. Malayan tapir
  2. Ibex (especially alpine)
  3. Lar gibbon or any gibbon species
  4. If giant salamanders will be accepted, exhibit or habitat?
  5. optionals: Wild boar, markhor and clouded leopard
Aquatic 2:
  1. Another penguin species
  2. California Sea Lion
  3. American alligator
  4. optional: West Indian manatee (maybe one small land in its enclosure for zookeepers to go in)
Exhibit ones:
  1. Mantises
  2. Stag and Rhino beetles
  3. Small rodents like mice and hamsters
  4. Small fish like piranhas and clown fish
  5. Aviaries for small flying birds and bats (Prehistoric Kingdom game had that idea)
Possible changes, fixes and updates:
  1. Japanese macaques like getting wet and taking baths like in real-life.
Any questions?

I believe I have explained this a couple of times already, and you asked the same thing before. In the worst case, this list is helpful for us, forum users, to know what are the popular animals in the PZ forum community. In the best case, Frontier might use this as a reference (as well as many others) to create the most demanded animals.
You can argue that this is as pointless as any of the other hundreds of wishlists posted in this forum. But at least here there's an attempt to collect and merge a good proportion of them, making the final wishlist more meaningful.

Any questions?
Yes. Have you read the OP? I seriously doubt anyone can come up with a list format as ambiguous and different from the format I suggested. It's not that hard to follow a simple 30 items list, it makes everything much easier. Anyway, are you happy with this updated version of your "list"?:
  1. Dromedary Camel
  2. Scimitar Oryx
  3. Striped hyena
  4. African spurred tortoise
  5. Cougar
  6. Moose
  7. Lynx
  8. Musk Ox
  9. African Leopard
  10. White Rhino
  11. Meerkat
  12. Hamadryas Baboon
  13. Nile Crocodile
  14. Masai Giraffe
  15. Malayan Tapir
  16. Alpine Ibex
  17. Lar Gibbon
  18. Chinese Giant Salamander
  19. Wild Boar
  20. Markhor
  21. Clouded Leopard
  22. Cape Penguin
  23. California Sea Lion
  24. American Alligator
  25. West Indian Manatee
  26. Mantis
  27. Rhino Beetle
  28. Mouse
  29. Piranhas
  30. Birds (?)

Thanks

I like it, because it's a great reference for this forum. We've had some claims that some animals were popular and they are sitting near the bottom atm and some interesting ones as well with the popularity of the leopards (African / Amur).

To me, it was the Malayan Tapir. I knew it was a popular "clone" but if you limit it to 30 - still very popular. Very surprised about that one.

I like it too. It also gives a great idea of what overall the community here wants. (those who participate anyways). We could all probably come up with 2-3 times the amount of animals as a want, even with still restricting no flying birds or fully marine animals. Yet, just because we want it, doesn't mean that a lot of other people want it as well. And while that doesn't mean Frontier won't make the lesser popular animals I'd think they would likely like some focus of what players want.

Also by nature of these lists, even without specifying as much, most people likely frontload their lists with their very most wanted animals - unless it's alphabetical of course. After you get past the top 10 or so most people likely just have a general idea of order, but I'd be willing to bet almost everyone's first animal on their list is also their most wanted. That's just human nature to do lists like that. Again, unless you're organizing them in some specific way like alphabetically or by perhaps region of the world. That also, gives Frontier some way of looking at what's most wanted.

I'd actually wondered if we should do just a top 10 list, and compile straight from that. It could even be that last is by order of what you want most and some kind of point system assigned - 10 points for every "1", 1 point for every "10" and so forth.

This list is the best thing on this forum ever!
It has shown me more then twice that most people wants are unpredictable in so many ways. Like I would never suspect that Fennec, lynx or ibex would be so high on the list.
I hope our choices would inspire Frontier in some way 🤩

I hope so, too. What i noticed in the DLC is that Frontier has 3 mega-popular species habitat species and 1 forgotten/inconspicuous species. Examples:

Arctic: Dall Sheep
South America: Llama
Australia: Southern Cassowary
Aquatic: Cuvier's Dwarf Caiman

So, whatever the next DLC is, be sure to see at least 1 odd species and 3 popular species

And I’m really happy for that coz even if we would probably get most of the species from the top of the list there is also a good chance for some species from the bottom too. Animals with much less votes and not so popular like:
  • Somali wild donkey
  • Dhole
  • Tree kangaroo
  • Lion tailed macaque

So let me contribute to reach the 100. :D

1. White rhinoceros
2. Meerkat
3. Sun bear
4. Binturong
5. Red-shanked douc
6. Gaur
7. Crested macaque

Was starting to wonder if all users have contributed yet or not. Always good to see more contributions.
Btw I started an essential aviary animals thread to cover all animals that would require and overhead aviary

If I say 'That'll do'? I just couldn't help worrying since the virus that caused many deaths expanded the DLC completion time.
And as long as there'll no UNKEEPABLE ones like Javan rhinos, mountain gorillas and indris. Those species cannot/couldn't last or breed in captivity in real-life. Did I said that right? And great white sharks couldn't last being captive.

Thanks for starting and managing this! Great to collectively combine 100 individual animal wishlist threads. Can we do one for plants?

Reptilia:
1. Giant Girdled Lizard - would work in PZ - a grasslands lizard that lives in groups, another squamata that is not an exhibit animal or a monitor
2. Indian Narrow-headed Softshell Turtle - giant, mostly-aquatic freshwater turtle found in some zoos

Aves:
3. Red-crowned Crane - iconic crane species, didn't have space to add secretary bird, or a stork

Carnivora:
4. Sun Bear - needs tropical bear
5. Clouded Leopard - unique felid, picked over Amur leopard
6. Dhole - Asian canine, picked over maned wolf, which would bring a South American canine
7. Binturong - the most popular ververid
8. Any Asian/African River Otter - Spot-necked preferred, purely personal
9. Southern Sea Otter - also personal, but I'd say it has a greater case since we have an aquatic one
10. Leopard Seal - would be nice to get another Antarctic animal that is not a penguin.

Artiodactyla:
11. Saiga - Asian plains bovid
12. Southern pudu - checks a lot of boxes, South American animal, deer, lives in a unique ecoregion
13. Muntjac (any kind) - probably personal preference, but it would be nice to mix with other Asian animals (peafowl, red panda)
14. Barasingha - 3rd deer recommendation, would be 4th. Good for mixed species with peafowl, rhino, and elephant. Red Deer or Pere David's are good alternates.
15. Sichuan Takin - unique mountain bovid, companion for the panda species
16. Markhor - need to have more mountain species
17. Babirusa - Asian pig, warthog is only pig species
18. Chacoan peccary - another peccary to round out pig species, preferred over other peccary due to conservation status, unique ecoregion, and physical features.

Perissodactyla:
19. Przewalksi's Wild Horse - most popular non-zebra equid.
20. Black Rhinoceros - need an African rhino, each of the past Zoo Tycoon's leaned black rhino over white. I agree and would that these are more solitary and would need their own enclosure, and its not like we need more African mixed species animals.
21. Malayan Tapir - it has twice the number of colors of other tapirs, should have been in over Baird's.

Rodentia:
22. Capybara - largest rodent + another South American animals
23. Patagonian mara - another South American rodent from the grassland ecosystem, would be nice with Guanaco, but it did not make the cut. Could be mixed with anteater though.

Monotreme/Marsupials:
24. Platypus - this one speaks for itself
25. Short-beaked echidna - lets round out egg-laying mammals
26. Common Wombat - non macropod marsupial, personally prefer over Tasmanian devil
27. Matchie's tree kangaroo - an arboreal macropod, also from Papua New Guinea

Primata:
28. White-handed Gibbon - need a gibbon species, picked over Crested due to larger range over SE-Asia
29. Francois Langur - a leaf-eating Asian monkey species
30. Black Howler Monkey - another new world monkey

Great and very well thought list. At first as the only one here I also choose Chacoan species but than I changed it. Since only leopard subspecies sum up on that list I decided to give my vote to collared Peccary which is much much higher on the list.

Same thing with a Goodfellow’s Tree Kangaroo it has 11 votes and Matchie’s just 1

I think you are the first person who choose Francois Langur - it’s such a magnificent species 🤩

I'm from San Diego but I wouldn't say it's the best. If an animal can be kept in zoos, they've definitely had it during their history. Best is the Bronx, but Woodland Park is another favorite for the exhibits, which is why I tried to pick out animals that would make mixed species exhibits or more rounded regions in PZ.

Both added!
