3rd person view.. Implementaion

Just wait until you can walk around in the hangar and look at shour ship =D
Should be better also because then you feel the scale of your ship when you can walk beneath it, look up, and it takes some while to walk from one end to the other

3rd person view breaks more than what it gives. it is a vanity thing that you are asking for that breaks at least 10 different game mechanics.
wait until we get walking in stations instead, or ask for a battle recorder or whatever, but please stop asking for something that just will make the game even more shallow.

Wing Commander, X-Wing, Privateer - they all had external views for the fun. It was useless for gameplay, just ornament. I don't see how it would do any harm, as we use our scanners for visualizing things much more than we use eye sight. It's not like an FPS where looking around a corner would give you major advantages

3rd person view is something I do not like, but any "flight simulator" including some much more realistic and hardcore than elite has at least the external view of your ship in flight.

Breaks what? What are those "10 different game mechanics" you're talking about? What is that licorn-style, sacred rule that makes a game better by removing possibilities?
We're not asking for a thing that will make the game "even more shallow", but for a thing that will make the game even better. You sound like you're not fond of it already, btw.

You want to restrict possibilities, to prevent new features that you believe will make the game bad (or worse, apperently, in your case). And then soon enough you'll get bored just like the rest of us and leave without saying goodbye. Leaving the game dying as you wanted it to be: limited, restricted, strictly ruled by absurd rules that you got out of nowhere.

Long as everyone else is giving their opinion, I'll give mine. I did stay out of the last thread battle. No 3rd person in combat. Otherwise, yeah it would be nice to see my ship (certainly would give a good reason to buy skins) and it would make exploring more interesting and landing a lot easier. I realize everyone has their own opinion. I think the idea of it being locked out in combat is right. You get caught hacking it and its insta ban. It would be nice and I'd enjoy 3rd person under CERTAIN circumstances with certain limitations. If they don't ever do it I don't see it as a game breaker. It would just be nice.

Pretty much every "hardcore" sim out there (MS flight sim, DCS, IL, Rise of Flight etc.) has multiple camera angles, views and external cameras... I don't get why it's such a big deal?

3rd person view and it's absence in the game right now has absolutely sweet FA to do with 'an immersion breaker' or to retain 'true simulator retention' - load of old trype and anyone who says it is needs to eat more cake or get a job.

It is not in the game right now because it's broken. simple as. Can you clearly see that your ship has the ship skin 'on' from the cockpit? no. well...............................yes you can actually, and you can clearly see that in a sidey, it is the default red/white.

Red alert! "This is not a Simulator" ! End red alert.

It is a game people. A brilliant game granted and one which accurately (as best we now through algorythmic evaluation and mapping) reflects the known universe. We can't say for sure (DB's words not mine) because no one's been there - A Supercruise momentum engine system or going faster than the speed of light does not exist and isn't likely to either anytime soon! Good ole Liquid Oxygen and Helium and Hydrogen will do fine for now. It is not a simulation.

Unfair advantage during a dogfight? utter, utter drivel! Come fly with me in DCS or anything actually, including ED and let's have a dogfight and as you blow up and start to scream about external views being an advantage etc etc, I'll calmly point out that hours and hours of self inverstment and learning of tactics, a decent HOTAS, system, monitors and peripherals and hours and hours and hours of practice 'may' have something to do with it other than luck or an external view.

External views make everything look nice, makes you feel good - "that's my ship that is", allows you to indulge in its beuty but it doesnot give you an advantage. You fly a dogfight in external views and I'll stay in the pit thanks very much. I'll win every time.

People are heavily invested in their side of the argument at this stage.

"Well now that the game is out and we've actually played it...."

Where are all the stealth ninjas, sneaking up on people undetected because only 1st person view is allowed.

Maybe I can't see them because they really are invisible!!

"You outside ship viewing said ship"? Jumping from pov to pov, sticking your nose right into your magically accessible hardpoint and a second later, in another one at the opposite side? That's not called a first person view, that's an external camera. Just so you know. And you have not answered about that "concept" concept.

As for staying the way it is, maybe. But I envy your confidence about that. The only other game being that rigid on the matter I can think about is X Rebirth. Definitely not the path ED wants to take. Fact is, right now all the polls have shown a majority for an external view.

Personally, I love the game, I really do. But lately, I have grown a bit tired with the routine. Exactly as I could have been with X2, X3 and its iterations if not for the scenery and the joy of scenery. And frankly, the X series (yes, even Rebirth), for all its flaws, has quite a bit more content than ED. In the end, we hope they will listen to the majority. For the good and the worst, but they should listen, as they already did, actually. It's good that no discussion is a flogged horse. Otherwise, the game itself would meet the same destiny fast.

BTW, I bought some skins to support ED. Until an external view is implemented, no more. Because at this point, skins are the most useless feature in the whole game.

Camera, pseudo pov, whatever, it's necessary because you kinda need to see what you are buying. But for the rest of the game, the "concept" as you seem to have not understood from my previous posts is 1st person. If you can't see it through your own eyes (even if that's just on a monitor), then it doesn't fit in with the game design and that's before we talk combat balancing etc, which I have deliberately left out of the argument.

The fact is, the Devs have stated its a no, so the reason is really rather moot. Personally I like it without... When drones or EVA appear i will savour it that much more.

As for skins being pointless, no they aren't. They are a source of revenue for ED that keeps away dreaded subs or any P2w items. I see it in the loadout screen and everyone else can see it in space. When drones and Eva come on line i "might" even occasionally take a look at my own ship, but bloody hell, it's a bit narcissistic to keep looking at your own ship all the time. Plus all the games qouted so far with odd external camera views have one thing in common. Single player only games, but ho hum, I did say we wouldn't talk about mp combat balancing etc...

Frankly though, again, my opinion is just as pointless as everyone else's. Until a Dev at FD says otherwise, this discussion has been had and has been closed. A proposal has been made that is frankly perfectly adequate. I see little reason to go over it again, but oh well, here I am...

You knew this day was to come. It was foretold in the days before Release.

AND YEA
DID THE NOOBIES STRIDE UNTO THE BLACKNESS OF SPACE
AND THEY DID ENQUIRE
OF THE FLATTENED MEAT PARTICLES
OF WHENCE SALLIED A VIEW OF A THIRD PERSON

AND THUS THE ELDERS OF THE FORUM DID WEEP
FOR THE DESECRATION OF THE HORSEMEAT DID UPSET THEM MIGHTILY
AND THEIR POSTS DID BURN WITH A FIERY FLAME
UPON THE NOOBIES WHO KNEW NOT WHAT THEY HAD WROUGHT

Thus endeth the lesson.

:D nicely put! In tune with

yes most people use the scanner allot more than eye sight, and why is that?
the scanner has a 6km limited range out of SC but you can eyeball a ship trail up to +30km.
yea i am sure a 360 degree field of view instead of our current 60 would not be game breaking at all.

do i even have to? try and and think for yourself.
for example why are some of the most popular exploration ships those who got good cockpit views?
or why does some people run whit duel heat sinks in pvp?
why is there mechanics to be able to destroy sensors?
why is there even a silent running mode?

i am scratching my eyes reading this,,, really??
common sharpen up mate.

I'm only chiming in because I love when someone says, "The majority wants". Give me some numbers please because I would really love to see this majority. As for third person view? No, why must people ruin a perfectly good game by adding stupid arcade mechanics to it. Ya ya, if you don't want to use then don't blah blah. Fact of the matter is it gives you that external view so you can easily see where your opponent is and don't try to deny that's not the reason you want it.

Again:

I would love to have a "flight recorder".
It records the last hour or so and when i watch it i can freely move the camera.
This is a common feature in many games, like in Gran Turismo for example.

Can't see any broken mechanics there, sorry.

If someone wants to try fighting from an external point of view they're at a big disadvantage. The only advantage is a greater field of vision and it's absurd that there aren't cameras on ships that far advanced to give you that anyway.

What do you mean only intelligent way?

It is so very apparent on here that many people have never played a combat sim in the past. ALL hard core sims have 3rd person view. It does not give tactical advantage and it is there to INCREASE realism!!!! In real life, you do not have tunnel vision. You can't account for that in a computer sim so to get around it you have 3rd person. Anyone who plays hard core sims knows this. Anyone who thinks it's a pvp advantage I would be happy to prove wrong. Fly in 3rd person during actual combat and say bye bye to your ride.

It seems one person makes an uninformed comment and then all the other uninformed people repeat it.

Uh..no? You think anyone gets into a SIM, to fly around in 3rd person? Really? Maybe thats a console gamers idea of a "sim". It defies reason to say floating behind your aircraft increases realism. Even though the FOV is increased, that still doesn't make it more realistic. Far from it. Atleast in the cockpit you are going to see what a pilot would actually have to see. The interior of the ship he/she is flying, and whatever blind spots that come with it. Not floating outside your craft like you are having an out of body experience, with nothing but open sky/ground/space. Increase your FOV, use the options available to look left, right, up, down.

Though I disagree with your opinion, I do agree it would be nice to be able to see ones ship externally for some kickass screenshots.

Combat however needs to be kept in the cockpit.

My problem with 3rd person in most games is that is gives to much of an advantage 'view wise' and therefore to compete with a player that uses it you are compelled to use it yourself. My own personal opinion is that I don't like 3rd person at all. I play all games in 1st for that sense of "being there" and not just remote controlling a figure, ship, car, plane etc. I guess though, thinking about it, it wouldn't bother me at all if they implemented 3rd person in Solo mode only.

That would be a perfect way of doing it.

think a few steps further, first of it affects more than combat, even if combat might be the major part it affects things like exploration and pve in a high degree to.
even things that some people might regard as trivial like docking can become a different game whit a third person view.

it is only one advantage yes, but think about what this advantage gives and not only about what it does.

a flight recorder though, i think thats a great idea.
that is something i can see adds something to the game without breaking something else

Yet you don't have a problem with competing against a player with trackIR and Oculus, who has too much of an advantage against you already. Giving everyone a level playing field by granting an option for external view would, of course, be "unfair", right? There have to be the "Elite" minority.. I'm in this minority (incidentally), and it doesn't feel right.
