Agreed, even using the word "immersion" as a defence of this ridiculous issue is, well, ridiculous. How does someone else using an external view, purely for aesthetic reasons, affect *your* immersion?!? It's already fairly well established that using an external view would not confer any kind of benefit in combat, and even if it did, it would be no more effective or useful as someone using a TrackIR or whatever. I could probably fill an entire forum page with a list of flight simulators from down the years that have a slew of different external & flyby views, which some folks would have used, and others not, but never, until now have I seen such an irrational, overblown campaign against such a feature. Its absence from the release version is baffling enough, the backlash against its inclusion even more so.
Simulators that implement external views , if they are focused on combat, usually have separate modes for flying realistic or arcade, seems you never played Il2 or warthunder, in the other hand, if they are flight simulators symply doesn´t matter how you play because all the objectives are to go from A to B and see wonderful views, but even those are so realistic that they force you to play inside the cockpit because you need to check your instruments all the time.
If you have Track Ir it´s just a peripheral that gives you a more natural way to do something that is already in the game and it is available for everybody, yo can do it with a joystick´s hat or even with the mouse if you play with keyboard, of course the more you invest in hardware the more versatile you will be at game, and even in that situation, a player with a simple keyboard and mouse can beat another one with a full rig (chair hotas track ir).
But external views are tricky, if they are used like 3d cameras in combat, just degrades the game to arcade, simply try to play inside your cockpit in Warthunder against everybody who is playing with external camera and you will know what i´m talking about, i don´t have anything against it, if it is just for doing screenshots, or check you ship inside stations, but a 3d view i think will bring many players to the wrong game, and they already have a lot of les for playing that way.
