400 ARX per week max - How Come?

Does it matter?? Elites screwed.

I saw nothing wrong with Frontier Points as they worked PERFECTLY. But noooo FDEV thought. Let's go like everyone else and ruin a game with microtransactions. Promise you they'll add something like a brand new ship that's only obtainable by ARX and is OP in every way possible.

Also known as PAY TO WIN.

Fdev moderation team, moderate this comment, within reason this time.

Oof.

This theory of impending doom seems to rely on an unlikely conspiracy.

It is interesting. I spent about an hour bounty hunting. 3 ARX. I wonder if it is tied to cash earning?
That's odd because I went out in my Python to a CZ(low), killed one ship, drove another away and then got blown up, and I earned 7 Arx.

The big earner so far for me is selling exploration data. It seemed around 1 Arx per 100 kCr. I ended the day on 259 Arx. That was five or more hours though.

Something's out of balance somewhere. I spent about the same amount of time, maybe a little longer, on my explorer account. Jumped through maybe 20 systems, fully scanned half a dozen neutron star systems (mostly one or two ice balls), two water worlds, one Earth-like and its moon. I now have 42 arx in my arxhole.

I wonder if it's tied to the progression tracker for Elite ratings? I'm already exploration Elite but maybe it keeps on tracking in the background. I know it ticks along in real time when you're exploring in the SRV because I once had a rating progression while doing exactly that. But I don't know if it does it for other exploration activities, or if they only count when you hand in the data.

I'm trying to figure out why bounty hunting would yield such low arx rewards in comparison and all I can come up with is that it's tied to rating progression and the ships you were killing were all lower rated than you.

It can't be tied to cash, because I won't earn anything from my exploration until I hand it in.

So I just noticed something. I bought that 1 ARX bobblehead being "given awaY" right now. I had ARX from before the update and made 9 since. So I spent one on my new bobblehead. The amount of ARX I made this week dropped by one.

This means If I'm at my weekly ARX limit, and I spend some, I am no longer at ARX cap for the week, theoretically.

This morning I spent about half the time, 45 minutes-ish, with my non-explorer account. Made a total of six jumps, mined two VO cores for 25T of VOs, sold them for 42 million, and got 3 arx.

I don't know what metrics FD are using for these things, but there's no way that honk/scoop/FSS exploration should generate five to seven times the arx of core mining in the same amount of time. You're doing a lot more button pressing and decision making when you're mining. If it's all about in-game activity then something needs a balance pass IMO.

(Still, I got my free holographic Thargoid, which is what it was all about really).

Do you mean that if we reach the weekly limit but spend something, can we go back to the limit amount?

I've see quite a few people raise this point, but I am looking for some clarification from anyone that has insight on the design philosophy here.

Many mmo's have what are called Daily's.

These are unique activities you perform on a daily basis to earn a modest in-game reward. It's a check - in model that consumes about 20 minutes of time, and the rewards are valuable enough to grind toward a skin or achievement title that many players will complete them.

Daily's are pretty well known as a last gasp of an mmo trying to secure player log ins, and provide the player with in-game events communications.

Capping ARX to 400/week feels very much like a Daily structure to me.

There is an active core player base that might grind more than 400 ARX in a week, but my hypothesis is that is not a huge number - and many of those folks probably already dropped cash to get the skins they want.

So what is the upside on the cap?

The upside? Well I guess since the last time FDev actually sold me a game update was late 2015 when I bought Horizons and the only regular income the game has generated for them since then is whatever people spend on paintjobs and ship kits, the upside is probably not turning the game into something that has significant development costs and makes them no money at all. You know, since no company in their right mind would actually continue to develop a game for four years on that basis.

I'm genuinely amazed at the attitude of some of you, which is my problem really because after four years on this forum I should really have expectations so low by now that nothing should shock me. Until last week you got literally nothing for playing the game. Now you get a bit of something. It's a frippery, a little something tossed our way. I have no idea (and frankly little interest) in how so many people have developed a mindset inside a week that you're somehow being ripped off because you don't get enough stuff for free, or that you're now compelled to play the game just to get your free Arxe because honestly, you're broken. Utterly broken. Get over yourselves for the love of God.

You literally have played no other mmos. The weekly cap is not a continuous play incentive. It is a pop in pop out model that caps continuous play. You're reading this as a whine about not getting more free stuff. It's not. It's an analysis of the FDEV incentive model in the context of how AAA mmos manage incentives. I can see how someone with limited mmo experience might think that - but maybe you'll open your eyes to a wider world.

The whole ARX thing is and should be scrapped forever into the dustbins of hell.
Why do we have to buy fake money with the other fake money? 🤓 Derp

What do they think we're stupid or something?

Because all Console-Pilots have bought thier stuff with "Fake-Money" (although I find the wording is a bit odd, regarding that "real" money is also nothing more than bits 'n' bytes in a database.).

You don't have to, it's for cosmetics ;)

Presumably it is better for them (Frontier). By way of compensating for the inconvenience you can also earn a small amount just for playing the game.

I reached my 400/400 cap last night, just in time for the reset which I'm assuming will arrive with the powerplay tick.
I play a lot, and I do a lot of missions, planet discovery & mapping (all previously discovered), killing mission pirates. But I tend to save exploration data and bounties to sell tactically, and it was selling exploration data for an election that got me the ARX this week (no CZ activity this week).

Now it wasn't difficult for me to hit that target and I could have gathered & sold some data to a random system I didn't have an interest in but the free ARX rewards achievements, not 'just playing the game'. Not complaining, it's free after all, but I hope they review the way this was implemented.
