Modes 5 minutes in Open...

I'll say it here: whenever a cmdr interdicts me and starts shooting right away without any reason other than "emergent gameplay" (so, no bounty on me, no cargo, no nothing), and doesn't even say a word, I log out via the menu. Now my shield is generally able to endure a beating and hold on the 15 secs. I have absolutely no shame doing so. I just can't imagine wasting my time being the content of a sociopath who is actually less interesting to interact with than a NPC.

Even a little "hello I kill you" right before an interdiction will ensure I'll make it worth your while. Other than that, well, zap!

I hate griefers that shoot without warning just for the fun of it. They usually cause other commanders to flee from OpenPlay forever, and that is clearly not good for the game. Something needs to be done, in my opinion, from a game-play perspective, to punish that kind of attitude, and make the in-game live of this griefers a lot more complicated.

I think the new C & P mechanics will address that somewhat. I got a bit trigger happy in a RES in beta, and it resulted in a 2 mil fine, so it is much more costly to destroy unwanted ships (or wanted ships that you were too impatient to fully scan).

I was running a mission in an unarmed ship yesterday, when I jumped into a system and immediately saw two angry hollow squares closing in. Just as my FSD was almost charged, I was hit by an interdictor beam. A brief struggle ensued, before I was finally able to break away and jump. All part of the "excitement" of open.:D
Pfff... I had a dozen of encounters with angry hollow squares closing after a jump in and... they were just peaceful traders or explorers or even bounty hunters (gankers in disguise I think), sometimes they even hailed me and gave some tips how to do something. Few times I was so scared that I dropped out of super cruise before scanning them. After return they were just flying to their destinations. Oh, the terror!

Why don't you just escape or fight back? You can get away 99% of the time without resorting to cheating.

Not true. I fly a combat fitted sidey and Eagle. I can survive against engineered FDLS and Annies for more than a few seconds. In fact I can usually last for a protracted fight and sometimes win it. With a proper build/escape tactics you can get away 99% of the time in anything, from anything.
Agreed; in the small nippy ships, you can run rings around them. If your brain dosen't turn to mush; like mine does when confronted with a human being. NPCs, I just toy with, even if it is just staying out of range.

So, they were interdicting me to give me cake?

First, it's not cheating, since it's a mechanic. It's not glorious, but it's not cheating.

Second, fighting back/fleeing in a multipurpose ship without anything fancy installed, when facing engineered pvp specialised ships with rolls of death on every module is not an option. You guys should really stop using that argument. Also, in the case you could flee, it's shorter to log out anyway.

Third, as I said, I have no interest in wasting time to please someone I could not care less about. That someone being the guy who just pewpew other folks without any consideration for interaction whatsoever.

But aren't you just encouraging the Interdictor...by giving them an interaction THEY want...you're engaging with them by "validating" their choice to intercept/interdict you...and giving them some "game content" in chasing you down/trying to win "the interdiction game" etc...
YOUR wasting YOUR valuable time...

Not sure why I'm able to post already, but my moderated post still haven't appeared. Anyway...

No idea, as I've said I was so scared that I dropped out or jumped out before they got near. Except the one surprising case I've told about in that moderated post. By that experience I'd guess they either wanted to hail you, be friends, or give a tip on how to play this game!

Running away from a T10 or a vette is easy. Show me you running from an FDL/FAS.

As I said, it's dead easy in an Imperial Eagle. You will never get killed. I attack every ship that I interdict, and just about the only time I blow up is when I boost into them trying to put mines in their faces. if you don't attack them, they won't even see you, let alone catch you. Try it, and you'll see. I think I saw you today in Shinrarta DeZhra. If I had known it was you, I could have shown you how it works.

I've never played in open and never will. I play this game for MY enjoyment, not some pimply faced kid who thinks that all the time spent grinding his boat into a super-ship somehow makes him superior. Got better things to do with my time. :)

Really?

Been playing since the original beta and no lie, I can count on one hand the number of times Ive been interdicted on one hand.

I use keyboard to play this game and so opening the chat window is a pain, because nothing else works, while in chat. So I don't communicate much. That said; communicating IS the key. I have had players, tell me to stand too and be ready to be scanned etc.. With things like this, I am giving them a reason to try and kill me; by running. Now it has become a game, a challenge and entertainment; sport even. Other wise, it is just a mugging and a nasty one at that.

Mechanic or not, it isn't a glorified thing to do as considered by majority of open players (I hope).

A multipurpose has enough chances to escape. Or do you call a all D-rated, or maybe even all E-rated ship multipurpose? Even if not, I see no problem in paying a rebuy once a while, it isn't that big money.

Where's my god mode button? :S

I guess, they just don't want to play the type of game being imposed on them. They have said as much, by stating that a little communication; makes all the difference.

Then play in solo or mobius, I have no issues with PvE only players if that's what they enjoy but playing in open and cheating cannot be approved. I am no fan of murder hobos but Fdev has stated they are a valid play style.

With this attitude you should play in solo/mobius. Part of the fun of open is the fact people can, and will, initiate encounters with you. It's no waste of time, it's actually gameplay and I enjoy a good fight or challenge.

1. Avoid the hollow icon that appears on your HUD screen whenever possible. Unless you are sitting pretty in hopped-up, crank-dusted engineered monstrosity, you are probably going to end up at the rebuy screen. Yeah, you'll hear stories about the Cobra who took out the Python, or how "this build" will get you out of trouble, but there is a reason they are called "stories". Seeing that hollow icon on the HUD display is like seeing a digital Grim Reaper smiling at you. And may the Good Lord help you if you see the infamous "o7" pop up on your Comm Panel. The "o7" is nothing more than bait to lure you in like a seal pup for the final death blow. If you see that hollow icon, or the vile "o7", then hit the hyperdrive and head on out of there.

I always wondered why so few people reply to my o7s.

Big o7 CMDR !

I should have clarified...(I 99% of the time Play in Open) only "ridiculous/griefing" encounters...
If you're intercepted or interdicted when not Wanted/Not carrying any cargo/not pledged to a PP Power/not running missions for a Minor Factio...
If you're doing any of the above...fair play...game on! That's what open is about and why its more entertaining/engaging than Solo/PvE ( I AGREE with you totally)
I'm only referring to random interactions with social inadequates...why validate them/give them any game content to enjoy...yoou're just encouraging their behaviour...and they'll continue to do what they do...when it would be better for everyone if they just get bored and move back to CoD/WoW/Skyrim online etc etc...
