Modes 5 minutes in Open...

Point missed by a country mile...

Oh it wasn't missed, he got it.

But you're not the first person on the forums to think; let's jump in to the shark tank then whine when I get bitten.
(shocker I know)

Quite a few of us ran out of sympathy for these kinds of threads 3 years ago when the forum was awash with them.
If you don't want to be shot for no reason, then don't play where people can shoot you for no reason.
There are plenty of popular private groups that allow for all types of game play and are just as busy as open.

Why should they message you? When it comes to putting down a player there really isn't any need for small talk. Anyone with half a brain in their head will be feverishly using that time to escape.
...

Maybe they should message me because without showing me any in-game reason for an attack they end up on my block list. If they don't care about that, no message is needed.

Be ready to be destroyed because you've missed your profits tax time! See? I've messaged you just in case I'll ever decide to do that. Easy, and doesn't require spending time on useless chat. I'm sure everyone else did the same, just search the forums. :rolleyes:

For what it's worth, I do think sending a funny chat first would be more optimal, I just can't type and shoot at the same time, and I don't know how to bind a message to a macro.

"Knock knock!"
"Surprise, candygram!"
"You have something in your eye, here, I'll get it for you!"
Etc, etc

I feel sorry for VR users, they must have to learn touch typing.

For peeps like myself who work in IT it's no issue, but for those getting into VR, you realise pretty quickly you can still see a small amount of space through a gap at the top of your nose. If ya buy a keyboard with lit keys, you can manage a much smoother transition to touch typing by peeking at the keyboard when you're struggling to find something.

That said most keyboards do have tactile bumps on particular keys so users have reference points based on feel, but I've never bothered using them...just never made a point of paying attention to 'em.

If I were using VR I'd be all like "Whoa! That's not my flightstick!"

F and J are the "home keys" - I did try Mavis Beacon Teaches Touch Typing, but I was never able to get the hang of it.
Plus back then I had Teamspeak, so I didn't really type much. Now I use Discord, so I still don't type much (apart from in this section of the forums).

I forgot about that little gap, I did get to borrow a VR headset for a week.
Elite was amazing with it, and I do want one - but I think I'll need a voice to text program for my typing.
Chat software and predictive text has made me so lazy with my typed communication skills.

The problem I have with the "sneak peak" is my flight stick and my "joy"stick light up in the dark. I should probably see the doc about that.

He'll probably just tell you to quit eating Cheetos while watching "educational" movies on the Internet. Don't ask me why I know.

When I got my first firmware engineer job way back when, the boss walked into my office and asked to see me type. I was a two-finger guy back then. He grimaced, threw a copy of Mavis Beacon Teaches Touch Typing at me and said "learn, it's a required skill in this field". So I spent a week or so with it, got up to 30-40 wpm or so, and have been OK ever since. :)

I may get a VR headset someday, but right now I'm happy with my 34" wide screen and TrackIR.

AutoHotkey is commonly used for this. Just a simplest example, functional keys to open quick chat (pressing Enter, so it's either local chat or the target), type the message and send it (Enter again), don't use it myself for ED, so needs adjusting probably:
Code:
F1::SendInput {Enter}Knock knock!{Enter}
F2::SendInput {Enter}Surprise, candygram!{Enter}
F3::SendInput {Enter}You have something in your eye, here, I'll get it for you!{Enter}

P.S. People still can't touch type these days? Amazing.

That would be a pretty spot on observation, only I don't think I've been eating green cheetos.

On the other hand I know Ziggy has been doing repainting his room green recently and doesn't wear gloves, so I'm starting to think I should install security cameras for when I'm sleeping.

After all, I'll need the footage for...er..."science".

Too much information... :O

I'm an odd one. I don't necessarily look at the keyboard when I type, but if I focus on the screen it's mistake city.

Oh wow is me. So these players get to see this massive expanse of space that this game to offer, because they are using V.R. and the rest of us, have to feel sorry for their suffering the hardship, of not being able to see their key-boards, making it hard for them to communicate. I use a laptop keyboard exclusively and have a choice. Type or fly my pretend space ship and guess which I prioritise when an FDL is bearing down on me guns blazing?

But he's talking about you typing in a FDL bearing down on a dreaming solo player who is curious what is open for an unwatchful mobius player! :rolleyes:

You seem like the correct specimen to ask this.

If the target is fighting the interdiction, which I always do, does that register with you, and would you perhaps be less hasty in the mundane practice of pew?

*double take*

Wait .... what?
