A concerned-looking spokesperson says ZP is unconcerned

Caveat 1 - I've had a few
Caveat 2 - despite my age I never played Elite, Frontier, Wing Commander or the like, no in those days it was all about Civ, SimCity, Age of Empires, Duke Nukem and Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

A year or so ago I started playing Kerbal Space Program, which inevitably lead to watching Scott Manley on you tube. After bashing my way through Scott's tutorials and Interstellar Space Program vids I watched a few of his Elite Dangerous Alpha videos. I sat up and took notice, right up until I saw the $300 price of admission.

Flash forward a few months and something got me to check out Star Citizen. Next thing I know I'm $140 lighter but I have a Freelancer and Alpha access to my name. A few weeks latter I'm in for another $200. While I'll admit I was initially sucked in by the ships (shiny shiny ships) and the hype it was the lore CIG was building that sucked me in.

Flash forward another month or so and Arena Commander is on the horizon but likely to be delayed once again. A second look at Elite and suddenly $150 for the Premium Beta doesn't seem all that bad relative to the $350 I spent on hanger fluff in SC. A few more YouTube videos and the why can't there be two BDSSE logic sets in. While ED looked to be a less ambitious, and certainly less hyped game than SC it looked like it was going to be a lot of fun. I reasoned that they are both looking at the BDSSE idea from different perspectives there's no reason Chris and David can't both pull it off. My only concern about ED relative to SC is that ED wouldn't be able to measure up to the lore CIG was creating for SC (reference caveat 2 that I have no prior lore to justify my expectation).

Present day, I'm happy to report that I'm finding the lore behind ED every bit as immersive and entertaining as that in SC. I'm not a role player by any means but I enjoy having enough of a back story that I begin to care about the universe I'm playing in. I've read a few of the ED books, but it's the last few news letters, particularly the P Cell scandal and the sudden down turn in Hauler sales that complete the imersiveness for me. The way that what's going on in GalNet ties in with what's going on in game has got me thoroughly sucked in.

TLDR - love the lore of ED and drunk enough to post about it.

I'm not too concerned myself. The ZP is a solid product, and was never meant for running through pirate infected sectors. It does one thing, and does it well. It was never meant to be flashy and sporty.

i don't drink, I'm a vegetarian, so to speak ;) I post all the time :D

I'm like you, didn't know anything about Elite until a couple months ago or so, now, I'm totally immersed into the universe. Good times!

I hope both ED & SC will be great. I have invested in both now and hope to enjoy that.
ED is great, really enjoying it. SC will be good too, I'm sure. Not tried Kerbal or Eve, but I looked at eve I must admit a while ago.

I was looking to get back into space after such a long time with mil/sims.

I fully expect ZP to lower the entry price for the Hauler to something comparable to the Eagle. In several respects, the Hauler is a bit of a sideways jump from the Sidewinder, and its target demographic seems limited to pacifist players with 60-130k credits.

I never paid attention, are ship prices a fixed thing? Will they in the game be subject to market flux as well, so supply and demand as well as trade of materials could play a role in the price and availability of ships (and weapons, which I'm pretty sure was planned).

ZeePeeGee will have the last laugh here. ;)

The poor Hauler will be better off once there's some cops around, but the feeding frenzy when old hands are finally able to fly a Fer-de-Lance will be brutal. :D
