A Guide to Minor Factions and the Background Sim

Anyone managed to achieve any relevant influence swing ( > 1% ) since the patch hit?

+10 Walt, this is an excellent piece of work.
After reading through the vast amount of information, I have 2 questions, (apologies if I missed this)
1)
Has it been determined whether the profit is the figure I should be working with or the total value of the trade? as an influence factor.
2) How accurate is the traffic report at recording actual player commanders. And is the “Last 24 hours” a rolling figure?, I have been taking periodic information from the daily reports and if it’s players, then I can't observe them

2. It is not accurate. It varies depending on instance. But it is good to judge how many people flew through the system (not landed there).

So, definitely maybe

Hopefully it's working now. It's been a very frustrating start to player factions.

yeah we've had an election interrupt a boom, unless boom just so happened to finish when election started ;)
Also during the election the faction we backed was able to gain influence from factions in war state as well as the faction it was in an election with!

Sorry if answered before ... what determines the system that BB missions are offered to? Why does system A offer missions to system B, but not (necessarily) vice versa?

Unknown. But when we tried to figure it out it seemed to be related to the government type of the minor factions.

That was the case in 1.2, but I found it disconcerting in 1.3 to find my favoured factions dealing with all and sundry, including obvious enemies. They still seem to be putting out missions that are entirely contrary to their avowed moral system.

Logged in tonight to find that most of my watched systems had had changes - mostly very small, as if tenths of a percentage point had been swapped between factions as a test. But all of the effort we put in on Friday night has had no effect.

Changes recorded on the 4th, 5th and 6th. Everything static on the 7th.

same for us, no change on the 7th
edit: and still no change today :(

Same here. Low pop system (13.000). We did a lot of missions with many ppl. Only 1% changes.
Same. I actually thought yesterday
there was no update. Today I've seen shifts of only a tenth of a percent from larger that usual efforts yesterday. This patch is discouraging and essentially killed my BH tests.

All is quiet in Lugh. No return to pre 1.4 levels...no % changes....

Honestly, work has been light on it...we only killed 30-40 system authority around the outside outposts (authority NOT CSG)...absolutely NO CHANGE whatsoever....

There's been a civil war for my faction at home. It's an Imperial Dictatorship. It looks like once again influence changes bugged out over the weekend again (7th like everyone else reported), a tick went by without any changes to neighbouring systems or my home system. I really, really wish FD would explain this. I bugreported it once, heard nothing. It's a real pain for me, because of timezones, the tick actually happens on the evening of *my* 8th, so basically I lose all my Saturday playtime to this problem.

I've handed in 2m in combat bonds, and after the last tick I actually lost 1% influence. I don't know if anyone is opposing, but traffic in the system averages at 10-20 ships every 24 hours, so it's very low traffic, and most of which is Asp Explorers (7). Just prior to the civil war starting my faction gained 26% influence suddenly overnight.

Interestingly, I don't know if this is related, but also prior to the civil war starting, there were no BB missions for my faction. Shortly handing in the 2m in combat bonds, the boards were literally full of missions (not that it matters, being a civil war). Perhaps related somehow... either A) ship kills provide missions to Dictatorship factions, or B) handing in combat bonds makes more missions available for that faction?

We are pretty sure that doing missions and trading (importing and exporting) will increase the availability of missions.

Based on observations by others...it would make sense that exporting alone might increase mission availability and payouts....something that might need to be looked at.

Has that been observed for all government types? I definitely found that to be the case when I was flipping for Patronage-type governments, and maybe things have just been a bit tumultuous since the last patch or something, but while supporting this Dictatorship my past observations haven't held true.

Previous observations of the effects on trading didn't hold true for the Kaushpoos CG, which was run by a corporate government, steadily holding 90+% influence while the CG went on. It then dropped as low as 60% while the bounty hunting/mining CG went on, so I can't help but think government type matters when it comes to what activity you are doing.

EDIT: For what it's worth, I "replicated" this behaviour just then. Logged on about 10am (local), only two or three missions on the BB. Came home 3pm, worked the conflict zone for 1.4m in combat bonds for the Dictatorship side, handed them in about 4pm. Again, only two or three missions. Just spent an hour pottering about the house, there's now 7-8 missions available for that faction in multiple stations, while other factions (there are five other factions) have just 1-2 missions.
