A Guide to Minor Factions and the Background Sim

Can somebidy please explain how to recover from economic bust? I know doing missions with commodity involved does help, but if there is no one? What are other options?

I just need to clarify something about the traffic report, Is it:
A) The variation in the numbers is an accurate indication of the "movement" by RPC's through the system?
B) A complete waste of time?
C) somewhere in between?

It counts each time a cmdr jumps into the system and seems to be correct.
Has anyone had and influence update in their system today or is the BGS frozen for a second day running?

We noticed influence updates on yesterday evening's (from a europe timezone view) influence tick.

Missions seem to be not working, though. At least not in configurations we have tested.

looks like influence is frozen in our system now then :(
we've had no influence change since Sundays tick

Since the bgs update last week we are experiencing almost no change to influence in our two systems Alrai and Hyperion too.
We triggered a war in Hyperion but there are no conflict zones.
Also our faction ( Blood Brothers from Alrai ) is at war in Hyperion but has no state in Alrai at all.
We are experiencing some strange bugs, or our faction is no longer sharing one state over all systems.

Here is some data we collected:

Regarding Elections.

My group is the major faction and has a Corporate faction identity and another Corporate minor faction in our system runs an outpost.
We are over 60% influence and have been for two weeks but no election has happened.

There is a war in system between two other minor factions for the third station.

Any thoughts on how to trigger the election? Do they not apply to Corporate?

A faction in control of the system will not trigger conflict (election in this case) with another minor faction unless there is matching influence. Basically, once you are in control of the ruling station, there is no way to capture the minor stations without dropping your influence to match the other minor faction. This was recently asked to and clarified by Michael Brookes, who said that it is something they'd like to change, but right now there is no other way. Match the influence levels (recommended), or take the other minor faction and raise them above 60% influence (not recommended) and the election should trigger. Then just make sure you win, or you could lose control of the system.

Thanks for the answer. I was worried you would say something like that. Our influence is high and we have spent ages knocking everyone else down.

The main game is mostly linear, earn credits and rank up as you progress.

The background game is a bit bonkers.

Can anyone give me an example today of a sub 5 million populatin system having its influence move by any more than 10% , every single thread, bug report etc im seeing is at most a 4% shift, this wasnt the original implementation when 1.4 went live

Can report some medium (10.1% and 2.7%) changes in influence again in the last two days, whereas during the 6 days before everything was stuck.
This is a low pop low sec system though.
Can anybody report similar observations? Did FDev implement any changes?
For discussion: these changes might also be caused by resolving the war we were in. @10.1% influence change, we took over the controlling station, and @2.7% the war was ended. Hypothesis: resolving (civil) wars is accompanied by influence costs for the winning faction.

How did you achieve that? Missions?

Over in Priva we (BCATS) have dropped 8.5% over two days, with our next biggest rival gaining 3.7% in the same time period. This is quite frustrating given that there are a few of us doing what we can to *raise* the BCATS influence and yet we still seem to be dropping. I suspect it's down to the action of other (non-BCATS) players doing jobs for the other factions.

Just to make it more clear, we actually lost that influence. We focused on fighting in the war. With similar efforts each day, on the first two days of the war we didn't see any changes. Only the last two concluding days of the war showed these swings.
Of course, there could always be some unknown CMDRs involved, but this is a low traffic system (< 20), and we should be responsible for the largest share of the traffic.
