A Guide to Minor Factions and the Background Sim

It's not just massacre missions. Apparently it's like one of the sides does not know it's in war. Just yesterday I looked at more than one war around me and it was all the same thing - one factions spawning all massacre and war related missions like scans etc., the other only normal state missions. Just like they did not notice they are in war.
Can you see any relationship between the missions supply and the faction type?

Did you have a significant lead (maybe enough to finish the war) at the time when you experienced this asymmetry?

Getting confused regarding the following. can any one confirm;

'shooting wanted ships reduces influence of their faction' is this still the case?

Yes. It is still the case.

The devs adjusted the negative score in the last patch to bring it more in line with the positive score from bounty-hunting.

No.

Shooting a Wanted ship does not affect Influence. It will affect your reputation slightly, but typically handing in those bounties fixes it.

I think you are confusing the patch to reduce Murder and gained Fines and Bounties with actually Bounty Hunting.

check the news from any station you are present, you'll find an article from where they are retreating.

This not a plug for EDDB but if you're OK with 3rd party tools you can go to https://eddb.io/faction enter your fraction and it will show where you are present and what your status is influence wise. This appears to be updated by EDDiscovery so once you have visited the system influence is updated. I know it's out of game but this I'm finding really useful.

Personally, I find it too inaccurate. It relies on player updates, and for my own faction it's very inconsistent. e.g the most recent info is 10 hours old for one system, 9 days old for another, 5 days old on average. Systems can change ownership in that sort of timeframe.

I prefer to just sign out in a friendly station and check galnet daily for issues (e.g it'll say "Faction X is preparing for an election in Y system against Z faction" if there's a pending state I didn't know about), and periodically check the system map for an influence update.

It appears there has been a recent change, I use EDDiscovery and every time I jump into a system the influence and state of all fractions in that system get updated in EDDB. If all commanders of a fraction used EDDiscovery you would very quickly build a near real time picture, but agreed you don't get pending states

Here is an interesting question, I do not find any posts on it yet.

We have a system that is low Security and has a Interstellar contact, It is only a small system also. We have noticed HUGE drops in our % over night (Almost 30%). We are Independent faction, Do you think people collecting Bounties Via the Int Contact is the cause of the new drops (this didn't happen prior 2.3) because of how the bounty system works now with superpowers?

Does collecting/Handing in bounties via the Interstellar contact help the controlling faction as it's a transaction and bounty reward, or harm the controlling faction as it's mostly bounties collected that are not for them. And does being independent make this twice as bad??

Okay assuming the new BGS changes in 2.3 are fully understood.

What is now the best way to help a system controlling faction improve its BGS %?

BH'ing looks to be out(?) or at least dicey so is it positive Trade? Board Missions? Passenger Missions?

Limited testing to date suggests that cashing bounties at a factor does not effect influence where the bounty was earned. Also does not effect system in which its cashed.

I wouldn't state this definitively just yet.

Depends upon the faction states. Check out the first page of this thread.

Missions, explo, bounties and trade all help in certain. Circumstances. Faction states determine which actions are effective.

There were updates in 2.3 to what's written to the player journal that EDDiscovery uses for its information, meaning a lot more faction info is indeed updated now, as I understand it.

BHing isn't out, as long as you are either the only superpower aliged minor faction in system, or you don't cash in superpower bounties. if you have some random traffic in your system with commanders cashing in superpower bounties and 2+ superpower aligned minor factions in system, a sideeffect of the new superpower mechanic might be, that you can't move influence at all positively, but in that case it doesn't really matter what you do. more pronounced the more superpower factions in system.

normal bountyhunting should be effective, as well as explo data and trading- depending on state ofc. mining might got a bit nerfed, but i haven't seen number on it. from the missions check out bulk passenger missions especially - they have mostly all noted a large influence increase. a good combination in the right states is passenger sightseeing missions, and cashing in explo data constantly.

Okay thanks.
I thought that, despite what the Mission Boards may say about gains, not all "Medium" influence gains were equal anymore.
I'll have to check things out further.

How do we change our government type? We are democracy, but because of different recent happenings and plot twists around our neighbourhood, cooperative would suit us better.
I have messaged Brett for the matter, but he seems to be superbusy as he hasnt responded in 2 months time.. :D

Any other advice how to change it?

If this is everything 'working as intended' then I'm not very impressed with whoever is designing the BGS mechanics right now.

I can only hope that in 2.3.01 the BGS starts to behave in a more logical, or at the very least a more consistent, fashion. Right now, it's starting to feel that it's being designed to frustrate rather than reward PMF activities. :(
