A message to Frontier From D2EA

We've been post-Odyssey for a while now. fdev have, as usual, not really told anyone, but their socials branding does flag it:

Kinda think it gives a hint of the type of associated updates that are likely 🤷‍♀️ Doesn't scream 'auto-routable FCs' to me :D

DTEA speaks about 2/3 players not wanting thargoid content based on his viewers, which is probably not really representative of even small percentage of Elite community. I think that Frontier has more than enough numbers of players participating in specific content and they make decisions based on that.
The problem is that while you're be right that the poll isn't exactly valid and isn't presented with enough caveats the issue that steam player numbers are down still remains and since it's a gradual decline with no big events/single cause leading to players quitting any random explanation will at least somewhat hit the mark here.

Just being reactive and fixing mistakes/complaints would go a long way but having ignored so much for so long there's just so much noise that I don't think it's reasonable to expect FDev to have clear priorities based on data.

We are just fighting between ourselves . In my opinion the game is dead , In my opinion the game is full of butterflies and unicorns . No you are all wrong.. But they are just an opinion. And at the end of the day Fdev don't care about opinions. They have a set storyline and will not deviate from it . We can write emails and post YouTube videos and point out all the bad bits , but if Fdev thinks that will do, then I'm afraid that's it .

But it's not really true, isn't it?
We got a new srv, carrier interiors, new settlement missions, thargoid settlement related content PLUS a whole lot of generic ED content in the form of new modules, an entirely new thargoid bgs like mechanics, new thargoid ships, cap ships and content.
Yes, very true. I was thinking more in terms of FPP content specifically, as that's what Odyssey DLC is.

Of which you can count:
- FC interior
- Couple of new settlement missions

That's it, as far as FPP content is concerned. I am not saying the other content is not welcomed or good or entertaining, quite the contrary. But it seems Elite development is really very slow these days with tasks being done on either/or basis. Of course we need to consider all of the bugfixing that is going on, which I presume is also taking some manpower away from other things that could be done.

All in all - I personally think Elite is being developed by a rather small team and they have to pick their coding battles, shall I say. Hence what I said about the impression of ED being pushed more and more to the back of the line when it comes to FDEV priorities.

In a cunning move and wicked plot twist, Frontier will drop a bombshell U16 preview later today covering all the bases Youtubers keep crying about, making D2EA eat his words and make him reconsider if one should release such a video on preview day 😁😁😁😁😁

That would honestly be great. Stream intro showing a Panther LX moving out of a station, preparing to jump, then fade to black and transitioning to the CMs. That alone would make the stream 10 times better than the lot of them in the past year or so. And of course that would only be the beginning of the good news.

Who is D2EA and why should I care?

What is the TLDR here?
"Lets remove spacelegs so we can focus on exploration in a FC?"
And
"Plz give us a gutamaya +90 Ly explorer?"
More along the lines: make it like Starfield, probably. D2EA should have asked: exploration needs a reason to exist, not for it to be like Space Engine. Why FD never linked exploration to expansions I'll never know, and that navs and stellar traversal aids are developed and deployed by players.

You can't say this, it might be used as an excuse not to stream at all! ;)
🤷‍♂️
Some people like the current streams, so I'm not asking for them to be canceled, but I wouldn't mourn the current format were it to stop.

If the stream was only about actual news and dev interviews, I'd gladly watch it. If that meant it would only be 15m, so what?

But having to watch the exact same two hours again and again in hopes of finding a minute of news has gotten too tiresome for me.

The streams are honestly not that bad. The stellar screenshots and other housekeeping parts are a bit tedious, but I always enjoyed the dev guest spots, which usually take up more than half of the stream.

I actually enjoy Stellar Screenshots, but they sometimes seem almost too hard trying to analyse them, like art critics almost :D

I haven't made it past them re-explaining twitch drops for the last couple of years. Sometimes watch the dev sections afterwards if they sound interesting. How anyone can make it through the CMs slowly reading galnet and looking at pics is beyond me 🤷‍♀️ And no, I don't need to know how excited they are any more ... I am aware that they are excited ;)

agree, the housekeeping bits can be a bit slow.

Speaking of which, after a month of silence, there will be a new livestream today. But I'm afraid today is also the day I realized I can't be bothered to tune in anymore. There's only so much community screenshot and twitch drop fluff I can endure.

There will be a clip of the relevant two minutes on Reddit anyway.

I think regular interaction with the actual community on the forums would be a lot more beneficial.

It ties up to what I've mentioned before - there isn't much happening in Elite, devlopment slowed down drastically, hence there isn't really much to talk about :(
