@rootsrat
If things go against what i want, i just re-formulate the plan because i understand the universe doesn't revolve around me.
So, i don't wallow in my self pity or consider frittering myself because i didn't get what i wanted..
I just find another way because constantly complaining about something, while not doing anything to improve the situation, is counter-productive.
It's far too easy to complain, much harder to create solutions but i like the challenge.
I'm blessed with a positive outlook. If i didn't have that, we wouldn't even be having this conversation.
Sorry if it annoys but that's just me.

@rootsrat
It's not like i haven't suffered from depression but that's due to things far outside my control.
I just tend to fight for things i have a chance of making a difference.
Incureable stuff, i just have to come to terms with and deal with because that isn't going away anytime soon.
Kinda makes you focus on what you can do, rather than what you can't but i've always been a bit like that anyway..

If FD walk away from what they're doing for AX, we'll just have wasted months of work for nothing.
Just something to consider.

AX was fun when it was about fighting aliens and evacuating people from burning stations. Atmospheric battles with thargoids were probably the most fun I had in ED.

Why they decided sampling was a superior game loop is a mystery to me.

Why are you mining for it? It's far ore efficient to do a high-earning activity, like exobiology, and just buy tritium. You can get it from other players even out in the far Black.

That's the kind of thing the gushing fountain of credits is for!
I was based in Colonia. The wells are dry there...

People aren’t excited for new updates due to Fdev’s awful track record the past few years and their continued secrecy.
because usually there's nothing to be excited for.

In 2 years they did just slight above the bare minimum on performance of odyssey(still doesn't run on my "horizons capable hardware" as advertised, and still dips below 60 in various odyssey-related occasions on my new one)
in 2 years+ they've released, besides odyssey:
a "new SRV", fleet carrier interiors, some new modules, added thargoids to the BGS with little modifications, 1~2 new thargoid units and reused old assets to fuel a "misterious war" that has been going at a slower pace than my progress towards senior retirement. i might be missing something but the list is small. for the scope of the game.

that in two years+, past update "big surprise" was to see the titan inside the maelstrom, basically the same one we saw on the ground since 2017, and to collect tissues that might be useable god knows when.
In the same time they ignored many issues on the issue tracker, they even abandoned some cause "we don't think its worth the effort", one of these is anti aliasing, in 2023 a 2014 game not being able to improve its own ANTI ALIASING, which imo got worse on odyssey, alongside many things. hell the lighting on systems which used to work fine on horizons still doesn't work properly on odyssey and now 4.0 Live(iirc)

The DLC itself was(is) lackluster in content and full of issues on launch, and after launch was still ridden with bugs, some that persists to this day which fdev doesn't have the face to admit they either dont want or dont know how to fix, so they come in public to say "we won't fix and wont tell you why, thanks for understanding and sit down", hell there's issues from horizons that people still complain since 2016~

So yeah, some folks are happy and that's good for them, but people still "disagree with the addition of new ships cause "every niche is filled", like if there was a problem that another corvette/anaconda/cutter existed but on a new shiny model, with different hardpoints or internals, but nah seems they are allergic to new content unless is the crumbs fdev throw at us 4 times a year. and that's usually the user base they want to keep around, no matter what they do, there will be minimal to no complain coming from them anyway, and again that's totally fine if you are happy with the current content.
But people usually don't like when you show a shiny cake but brings half a carrot stick to a birthday party, to be eaten throughout the span of 3+ years. it becomes boring.

As usual, the game still has a lot of potential, but some of this same potential was spent on an "amazing gameplay" which consists of almost hovering over soil trying to find a white fungus on a white planet, while the game don't render things fast enough so you gotta slow down and let it take its time, to find that fungus if you are lucky, drop from your ship, hold a button, go up your ship again, and then go find more 2 of them.

and GOD FORBID you find another plant on your way, you'll have to imprint on your mind where it was, cause we can fly spaceships, can carry limitless "cans" to store the biological data, but we can't switch said cans to store different plant datas alternately just because.

and there's the post of today
"hey, we've dropped 3 issues cause we won't look further into it(like lighting that we said it was fixed but it wasnt!), and no talks of the said "system rework" yet, but here's a shiny new client, we know you will LOVE a new client more than the 3 issues we just dropped alongside many others being fixed, right?"

what a joke.

I always find it amusing when people become superior in one form or another , it's all an opinion . My opinion is better than your opinion , my outlook is better than your outlook . Thing is with forums is others have different outlooks and opinions it's the way the world works thankfully. Most posts should have the "in my opinion" tacked on .
The posters all love and play Elite and some dislike the Thargoid War and the majority couldn't give two hoots and some like the the Thargoid War . Some like the state of the game is others aren't .
Who is right or wrong ?? I would say "in my opinion" I want Elite to be better , not just meh .
But also at the end of the day it's just a game I played regularly for many years , I still play now but not a regularly and definitely for as long . Any how I'm off to move my FC to a mining spot .

@Rubbernuke
I haven't quite lost hope in that. It just may not be everywhere because humanity is weak, bar a few exceptions.
It's really about turning the few to the many.
It won't go back to how we liked it back in the day, unless you want to clean up the projectile vomit off the forums.

The frustration is that these large scale systems should have been in at the start- and that FD think adding large scale systems like Goids, continually changing things like Engineers etc is a good idea, especially so late when so many have walked away.

FD must have known internally granular (as in, regular balance tweaks) were not going to happen, so why introduce systems that live or die based on such things?

What worries me more is the language they seem to be using lately more and more - "This update is still confirmed to be released" (emphasis mine) - as if it could get cancelled anytime...

Maybe it's conspiracy theorist in me, but overall there are a lot of little things that make me worries that we may be coming to an end of ED, slowly (still) but steady. I truly hope this is just an impression I'm getting and it's not actually the case.
I think it's Frontier just being cautious as to the rough time of release as they are probably (quite rightly) tired of people throwing their toys out of their pram and saying "but you promised" even though they never use the word "promise" when they are telling us stuff.

If Frontier said somethng like "Update 17 is coming before the end of this year" and then some issues means they have to delay it to next year then there would be complaints here about Frontier not doing what they said (or breaking their promise).

I'm currently involved in a complex project at work where I can't yet give estimated timescales for some things until I have futher information from external people. This past week I said something like "we should be able to start this bit in September but that is still to be confirmed". There is absolutely no way that the thing I am referring to will be cancelled, I just don't know when it will be able to be started or completed until I have received some vital information.

Game sales reps influences only speak for themselves, its their opinion just like we all have our own opinions.
We will all never want the same thing out of Elite as we all have different play styles and views.
The vast majority of these youtubers will never fully support the game, being controversial or just blatantly slagging it off gets more views and drags in their target audience which is anyone who nods along to their inane drivel, mostly those who have left the game or play it very rarely.

It would be really easy for me to put together a list of what 'I' want in the game, but to then critisice Fdev for not implementing it is just plain stupid.
Sometimes i wonder if these muppets actually play this game, especially with their ship builds and in depth analysis with spread sheets and calculations which any long term player knows is utter rubbish.

I laugh about D2EA building an explorer including mining gear but seriously, come on how can you take folks seriously when they peddle this rubbish?

Doom and gloom sells (although obviously not much going by his small amount of followers), ask the 'fleet street' papers, "never let the truth get in the way of a good story".

So i dont have a youtube channel, i dont have thousands of followers (not on this platform anyway) but MY view is that there is plenty to do in Elite.
Im an explorer but i love the thargoid stuff now that it has branched off into research as well as combat (which i never really took to), there's literally never a day i log in and think there's nothing to do, sure a few new ships would be nice, as would ship interiors for all of 5 minutes but they are not essential.

This is a free MMO (even in solo), we get regular extra things to do in the bubble - FREE - or you can just ignore it and stay out in the black.
I fail to see how these tubers can demand extra content without a paid subscription.

For me they could stop development tomorrow, no new content, nothing, just leave the servers going and im happy to continue exploring forever, what they have created here, in this game is truly remarkable, there is nothing else out there remotely close (that's my opinion!) and im grateful for whatever else they add to it.

I can remember d2ea and obsidian ant on kai zens stream along with exigeous.
Not a pleasant experience imho.
I tend to group them together in my head.
I have been critical of FDEV myself. But I put those experiences behind me and enjoy what I enjoy in game.

I would like more non xeno in game, but you could argue that the largest part is and always will be exploration. The choices are literally endless.

What I would like is a reward loop for engineering, but all I can do is ask and not whinge.
Or as an old advert went.

'Mummy I want a bunny rabbit' on and on and on. She never got one. Adults stop listening 🎶....

...Anyway, all games should have gratuitous nudity, combined with ultra-plausible armor mechanisms, so the only way anyone gets to see any skin is through judicious application of semi-armor-piercing high-explosive incendiary ammunition...

That's a point I am regularly trying to make. All this "Panther Clipper when", "we need this or that feature or game unplayable" and frustration about unfulfilled dreams.txt is not a healthy way to spend your free time. I always say: Like the game as it is now and enjoy what it offers as long as you do. If you don't anymore, take a break or walk away. Everything else, everything new we get is a bonus. Personally, I am still having a lot of fun, and when I don't, I take a break. Sometimes for weeks. It's actually very simple.

It's not like we bought a share of Frontier with our game license. It's not a subscription service that needs to deliver every month to their regularly paying customers, most probably paid less than 60 quid for the game, some got it even for free, and still complain. I think I paid like 60 Euro for the game initially (base game plus Horizons), and 30 for Odyssey? I have just crossed the 2600 hour mark, so right now, I spent around 3.5 cents per hour on this entertainment. I have spent much more money on much less entertaining things.

Sure, some paid considerable money in the kickstarter. Maybe it makes them bitter when you align with another man's vision and you have to realize said vision will not completely come true. But in the end it's a frikkin' game, and a very complex one with a lot of things to do. Most players got much more than their 60 quids' worth of entertainment out of the game.
