A message to Frontier From D2EA

Did anyone check the viewership trend of D2Ea? I bet it's heavy downtrend and the channel is basically doomed. Inciting internet drama us usually done when on the last legs.

For me, having not played in a while - other than a quick test after updates - I'd welcome two things:

1) More ships, with something unique about them. I.e. a larger trading ship that has a "Class 9 Cargo only" slot, or something like that. Or how about the fabled Panther Clipper, and allow it to dock two small ships like Sidewinders.

2) The previously spoken about Engineering rework, to reduce the grind and allow regular gameplay to grant more materials. I ain't gonna get any more ships (something I love) if I've gotta go grind for weeks (elapsed time) just to get the materials to make it work well for its given role.

Bonus: Was just chatting to a friend, who also hasn't played in ages, about how we'd LOVE a use for our Crew. Pop them in another ship and have them be a wingmate - for those of us with few friends lol.

i might be wrong but i think ive seen this exact same thread a year ago. might be a tradition... :p

just today i was thinking about this. a "panther clipper" class of very large ships that could dock small ships and perhaps even do an in-system jump.

All ten respondents (including you and me)- 7.7k uinique votes v.......a forum and thread that is a bit niche?

Nor those viewers nor us are representative to the community
(only FDev has the relevant metrics and since they haven't turned the game open only... and the last senior designer that hinted towards open only features had to leave the ED Boat like 5 years ago... well... that may provide some hints regarding FDev's stance on Open)

However, while here on the forums we kinda know who's playing the game and who's just lingering around... that cannot be said about the viewers for an YT channel - where mostly seem to be ex-boyfriends.

All in all - I personally think Elite is being developed by a rather small team and they have to pick their coding battles, shall I say. Hence what I said about the impression of ED being pushed more and more to the back of the line when it comes to FDEV priorities.
Which is a shame, really. They could make the game so much more better for the players (by giving them what they want) and more lucrative for themselves at the same time, which would be pretty much a win-win situation.

As an example: Ship interiors might be one of the most requested features. Implement that feature! And do it well. And while they are doing it, make it possible for players to furnish and decorate the ship interiors. Make some furniture and decorations (very rare and difficult-to-get) mission rewards, and a big bunch of others purchaseable with ARX. Cha-ching. The best of both worlds, for both the players and the devs. I'm sure this would be a good source of income. It's just a huge waste not to do it.

(While I would not really want ED to become a paid-DLC-fest like many other games, this is one aspect where I wouldn't really complain. I would understand the reasoning behind putting the majority of furniture and decorations behind an ARX-wall. Heck, I might purchase something myself.)

He's actually doing ok, but no thanks to Elite as I previously mentioned most Elite streamers/content creators saw a huge drop after Odyssey bombed and either quit or branched out from Elite to other games. If Elite keeps losing players and the channel gets even less views does that mean the critiques/opinions become even less valid?

Trouble being.....ED needs those ex boyfriends back.

while id love to have some interiors and have decorations for them (warframe has done it imo best) i dont think its that big gamechanger. i think it would mostly bring back some people that would spent 15 minutes in game checking it out and then left. which makes me think if fdev isnt keeping these "largely wanted" additions for sort of "bad times". most of us who are playing are hooked and would play one way or another anyway, so theres no need to release them. but if other fdev projects flopped and company would need a boost: new dlc with ship interiors! base building! funcional coffee machine! and as you said: cha ching indeed. money even from players that arent playing and will not be playing, but would come back to check it out...

Not sure why everyone obsesses about ex boyfriends around here anyway. If Elite is the marvel everyone claims it is, then this thread is much ado about nothing. Leave us ex boyfriends alone, especially when we're enjoying ourselves in our own little communities separate from this forum 😏

Unless, of course, we come into a positive "Elite is great!" thread and try to derail it with meaningless moaning about things like engineering, as some are want to do. I try not to do that, though sometimes I can't help but poke a bees nest just for the fun of it (which usually results in a rightful smackdown from a moderator).

But this thread, it's a classic example of the Streisand effect. Y'all been much further ahead to just ignore D2EA and continue on with your positive threads, like the one about finding an outpost in an asteroid belt (which is genuinely cool).

Aside from the obvious, I'd like FD to do what they did with the BGS with missions, and have properly branching / alternative versions that have much deeper repercussions. As well as that I'd love a bit of a rework on how wars work- firstly join them up better to ground wars, but also how they are staged with more missions joined to them- defend depots, recon etc as well as better use of POIs.

Filling in those gaps and trying to add some substance to a superficially repetitive area would make long term engagement more fun, as well as being a realistic goal for the devs.

It was sad really, because the buzz on other ED PP forums was palpable when Sandro dropped the bomb. Many, many old hands (some who were the foundational members in the early days) popped up and were very positive. However that all went away and that momentum was lost.

On the topic of ex-boyfriends, I'd be very interested in a study / survey / poll that breaks down, statistically-speaking, why people have "divorced" Elite over the years. It would have to be done by someone like D2EA or OA, since it isn't allowed on the forum, and as some have pointed out, we "ex-boyfriends" feel more free to express ourselves in the friendlier social channels like OA's YouTube comment section. As an ex-boyfriend myself, I know that the odds of Elite fixing everything that made me walk away is in the single-digit percentage range, so I'm really not even worth trying to win back. I've made my peace with that.

Others, however, might be won over by a simple change to a single game mechanic, like PowerPlay or Exploration. It makes sense for Frontier to focus on "easy wins" rather than impossible ones, so I think there is merit in having the discussion of what would bring a percentage of people back. I'll never understand the "Get out of here, ex-boyfriend!" mentality some Elite fans have, seeing that the longevity of the game they love depends on people actually playing it, especially when they tell that to people who could easily be brought back to Elite with some TLC.

I've never thought of you as an ex-boyfriend of ED. You're more like an old friend of the ED family who had to move away.
