A Nice Quiet Place To Call Home...

how about.
We can build our own station in the shape of an onion head. Call it The Onion Tavern, and all pilots can go get steamed and leave whilst ramming each other.

Oh man I'd be coming out of the station paranoid as s***, and then the coppers would start scanning me?

I wouldn't be able to even.

A home station for me would be somewhere where I can store all my ships (I want to collect them all eventually) and spare equipment that can be swapped between the ships. Locations wise it would probably be close to all 3 factions areas of influence so I can flit between them all as needed.

yes this.
I think a storage for ship parts would be great, and being able to interchange between ships.
Then if you sell a ship you could strip it bare and keep all those good upgrades to use again.

* High-Tech System, high population, with plenty of upgrades/ships available
* Aligned with the Empire
* Owning faction (of station) is either Empire, or aligned with the Empire itself.
* Local Resource Extraction Sites for easy pirate-hunting.
* Decent trade-routes of at least 1k per tonne profit in at least one direction, to home station.
* < 50ly from Empire Capital Archenar.

I have found this, and it's home :)

my home station is very similar except its in federation territory and i get 950 per tonne out and 1100 back

For me... A small (like 2-5%) discount on commodities and ships/parts bought at that station... a personal "hangar" like in World of Tanks where we could store ship parts instead of having to resell them, and instead of "welcome back commander" it says "welcome home commander when I dock.

"Your Kipper has been smoked to your liking Commander, and you're just in time for breakfast."

My home Station is Freeport. Back in the premium beta new players would scour LP 98-132 for Gold in the USS. as LP 98-132 is an Anarchy system you wont have to worry about law enforcement there either. I have all my ships stored there, and when I need a new ship I will buy a sidewinder, put on a good frameshift drive + fuel scoop and go get the new ship so I could store it in Freeport.

My new home station.

Having huge arms on stations that hug each player n guide them softly to their landing pa...oh wait im totally full of sh#@ :)

Nothing right now because *every* place looks the same...

We must b playing diff games...i hav multiple station types that procedurally vary from system to system n many diff outpost configurations as well...and this is just the begining...but thats in my game :)

The name...

My favorite Sci-fi writer is Stanislaw Lem, and once I stumbled upon Lem Dock I knew I would stay there for some time... ;-)

WOW, three or four types of stations (and two slightly different hangers) with some assets procedural placed on them. No difference in style between the different factions other than a logo decal on the station. There is NOTHING that makes me distinguish a refining type system from a luxurious hightech habitat. Have a look at X³ for example, not a good game either but mostly because of bugs and not because of boring content.

I know this is jokey but there are good ideas in this thread. I guess the ultimate thing is what FD could do that would have maximum benefit for the least development effort.

Zero development effort
+ just store all your ships in a single station

Low development effort:
+ provide tailored scan and docking messages for players that have docked more than X times within the past time period
+ allow a player to 'flag' a system as their chosen home, so game can respond accordingly to home player, friends of home player, and visitors
+ rename a station for X million credits, limit this to one per player - you can rename another one but the first goes back to default.
+ build a load more station types, so a personal preference makes more sense
+ provide different 'styles' of station interiors, from tropical to retail. Currently they are all mostly parking lots.

Medium development effort:
+ Allow 'home player' adjustments to enable/disable features of station
+ allow 'stored ships' to be permanently on display in docking bays of 'home' system, rather than hidden in storage.

High development effort
+ Allow player to configure a new station, limit of one per player
