A Nice Quiet Place To Call Home...

It's a big Galaxy, best we know where you are to start with. No good suggesting something an impossible distance away.

Have you used the Galaxy map and called up the factions colours to see what's near you that might appeal?

A station that does repairs, sells decent weapons/mods has lots and lots of ships for sale has a rare item and some decent exports.

I prefer to setup home at a starport with the following characteristics:

- very large (or greater) population
- High Tech
- Outfitting and Shipyard (12 ship inventory)
- multiple planets in system
- at least one planet with pristine/metallic rings (for quick access to bounties)

Hmmm, lots of us in the Lave group them, maybe we'd best try find each other sometime. Lave is my home station.

Well in terms of OUR fiction there are no bad guys, but Alliance are probably the least bad of the 3 main factions.

It is good around Lave. I hung there for a while for nostalgia reasons. Depends what you want though. Eventually I moved on and found an independent system surrounded for light-years all around by empire. I am enjoying supporting in their insane choice of independent systems while struggling to find anything profitable to do myself... It's a hard life supporting the underdogs but someone has to do it.
In short, imagination is sometimes better than numerical bests.

Ya I'll probably try the fed space near Lave, and make Empire my enemies instead of Alliance. Hopefully there's some empire space nearby. I'll check when I get home.
Fighting the empire has the benefit of blowing up those oh so "pretty" clippers

Lave is perfect for bounty hunting. There's an empire system nearby too. You go to the anarchy ones, pew pew pew with your warrant scanner, then cash in at the end of the night. I can make a 100-200k per run.

jameson memorial is a good homebase, it's the founders world, so permit required, but has a good selection of ships and top range upgrades always on offer, not far to sol, and close to active bubble.

I see the Feds as being more like the enemy of Browncoats—it's basically the big, old, core system police state, where corruption is rife. Alliance is more of a collection of independent states.

Ya, I know Bob, but the alliance isn't a fullc formed faction yet, and they're called the alliance... so it was pick between the empire or feds for me. If I go against the empire it'll allow me to switch to alliance in the future if the factions get fleshed out more.

I've chosen Jameson's Memorial, in the Shinrarta Dezhra system as my home base. It is an excellent Federation base that stocks a rare item, and has a very good selection of ships and tech to equip them with. The downside is that if you aren't a beta (or better) backer, you'll have to get a permit to gain access.

Fellow commanders,

I'm hoping someone with a little more knowledge of the galaxy may give me a good suggestion on where to set up shop.

I'm a federal cadet, gonna be doing mostly bounty hunting with the occasional trading and privateer work. I thought I found a good location in federal space neat Lave, as I planned on doing my privateering in independent and alliance space, making alliance my "enemies," as I'm a bit of a brown coat and alliance are "bad guys." (Firefly) The problem with that, however, is that Lave and a few of the other Rare goods stations are alliance and that would overly complicate any trading endevears that began nearby.
Perhaps there is empire space nearby and I can switch to making them my enemies? The federation and empire are fairly hostile in elite story, anyhow, correct? I'm at work so I can't check at the moment.
Are there any other rare hubs in federation space that have alliance or empire space nearby?

I know the universe is sorta big and all and I can find what I'm looking for, just thought someone might have looked for similar criteria and could share some tips.

Thanks and fly safe

This is a pretty decent post for rare goods.

Personally, I prefer a system with a Federation outpost with a black market, repairs, rearming, and which is not far from the local star and Nav beacon. Outposts don't seem to have any security ships scouting, so I don't get scanned when docking. It's not that I'm a bad guy, but I like to supplement bounty hunting with the savage missions, and it's handy knowing I'm not to get scanned when returning. It's also handy not getting scanned after some stupid security idiot chasing the same ship wanders into my fire, and I end up with a bounty.

If you could find something like that near a system selling rares, you could be onto a winning home base.
