A Note for Arthur, Paul, and the rest of the FDev Community Management Team

To be fair Obi has put the mostly negative spin on everything for quite a while. Even if it's positive news, it can be twisted. (Heck, Marvin and Eeyore are more optimistic sometimes).

However, the news blackout of the last three months has not been helpful (and you have to blame upper management for that, not the CMs), as I was extremely concerned about the future of the game during that time.

It's obvious now that there was a last push to try and get Odyssey onto the consoles during that time but it was trying to put a pint into a half pint pot. However, what we do need at the moment is a general roadmap that reassures the remaining player base that Odyssey Elite will continue for quite a quite a while. Not something that goes into details but something like the Beyond presentation at the expo which gave the general idea of what was happening but no plot spoilers.

I know that we've got the conclusion of the Azimuth saga and potentially changes to engineering but the community does need some kind of reassurance.
I don't think 'we' have been presented with any evidence of a 'push' to incorporate consoles. In fact the opposite has been stated numerous times, namely that console development was suspended whilst the PC optimisation is completed.

Unless of course the PC optimisation is now complete!

I have to force myself not to put to many upvotes on his post in case he thinks I'm stalking him. He articulates a lot of what I think concerning the game and the direction it's taken and it's saved me having to spill my bile all over the forums about Odyssey, so thanks Obi and keep speaking your truth.

(I do think Zac was attempting levity more than having a go tho').

Have you ever been positive about anything, Obi?
I was very positive around KickStarter time, but my positivity declined when my chosen client was sunsetted and removed.

Give up something to be positive about, like any of the missing features that were trailed way back in 2012. After nearly a decade, I think some of us have been quite patient and positive enough.

Honestly I start to feel a bit uncomfortable about being in the limelight here for some reason, I still don't think I've been a particularly bad apple but you tell me... anyways, as I already explained above there are reasons why I complain about the things I do, and I always tried to be as constructive as I can in my criticism - even offering suggestions of my own instead of just proclaiming "this is garbage" for the sake of it - unlike a fair few others I don't judge Elite in a vacuum (hur hur) but compare and contrast with what other games offer (even if they're not in the same genre, it helps to appreciate what's possible in gaming these days).

I mean, take pretty much any suggestion that @Rubbernuke made over the past years - I love almost if not all of them, and would be delighted if they were implemented. Because unlike some of the more crazy stuff you can often see in the Suggestions forum, his ideas (and others of course) try to be realistic and considering existing limitations, while offering some real easy wins (sometimes just requiring tweaks to numbers/formulas). And time and time again those get ignored to oblivion by FDev, and instead they go ahead and double down on the worse aspects of the game (the entire on foot engineering loop being a prime example).

The longer you see this taking place, the more frustrated one gets. Eventually since emotions are involved those frustrations get vented by the occasional snarky comment (I'm only human like almost everyone else here). I simply can't call something "brilliant", "fantastic", "best ever" if it's simply not, just to stroke someone's ego. When something was done well, I will call it out accordingly, but if not, then I'll be frank, and I think that's only fair - including towards FDev, because I would think that negative feedback is more valuable to them than positive one, as the latter rarely triggers change or improvements.

Agree with the rest of your post fwiw and those absolutely don't help lightening the mood alright.
When people think of me as a sane figure, you know its The End Times™....

I mean, this is me right about now when I write suggestions:

its posts like this which we need more of, its too easy to post negativity in the forums of a company and yes its the only direct access we have for fdev but there is LOADS of elements at play here. One is some of the XB1 and PS4 console generation came out in 2013 almost a decade ago which was why i was all for fdev pushing for PS5 and XbSeries line of consoles rather than OG consoles. I can see why they made the decision they did and i still enjoy flying my sidewinder around space and landing on occasions now i can stretch my legs which is a welcome update.

FWIW "Thank you fdev and the team" 🙂

You arn't a bad apple. its just a glass half empty kind of thing. It's quite understandable though. I seriously though the Comms had turned a corner in the run up to christmas. It felt that we were being listened to and people were feeling more positive about Odyssey (which can also been in the steam numbers at the time). But the comms blackout was hard. I was at the point where I thought the entire game was going to be sunset or put into maintenance mode and was getting horrible flashbacks to the content drought between the arx release and fleet carriers.

What I do understand, after meeting the devs and the CMs at the community meet, are those guys (and girls) are as enthusiastic about the game as we are and there is tonnes of stuff that they themselves would want to do.

You know what - the more I think about Zac's post/question the more it annoys the :poop: out of me.

As you say, I supported the game with my money, until EDO released, with zero regrets. We're not talking about dozens but hundreds of Euros here (don't want to check the exact figure but it's passed the 600 mark). For one single computer game (that's completely unheard of for me personally, for as long as I play games (mid 80s)). I don't want a medal for it but it shows that the game has a special place in my heart.

As such, I leave negative feedback because I care for the game and want it to do/be better than it does, but instead people have a go at me for being negative (and in quite a personal way I may add, I thought this was against the forum rules but I'll let that slide).

I hope other players take note and think twice whether they want to support a company that openly mocks their best customers.

Ouch for earlier in this thread.

Also tried to warn you years ago man, the one mistake you can make with this game is spending past the personal measure so you feel like they owe you something. I've watered mine back down to acceptable...

Its tough even when everything is balanced back to being a gift in your lap post odd, you're still reminded very often that the care they afford is less than you would want to give if you were building elite. Every patch it seems. And i took a year off...

I think the point is you can't win. They'll never take the initiative to read your passive pleas and chance to meet expectations. Gave up on that years ago :)

I have read that poke in a different way (before Zac came to comment himself): to me it was a friendly poke and you should wear it as a badge of honour.
You are not toxic or disingenuous in your criticism, and my impression is that you were perceived as approachable for friendly sparring.

For what it’s worth: I have so many posters on the forum on Ignore that some threads are just impossible to read. And that’s the ignore feature doing it’s job I guess.

I come to the forums for up to date news on the game I love. But lately it feels like 8-10 people here are just constantly squatting and throwing their all negative all the time views into every thread.
I gotta ask all you negative Nancy’s: isn’t there something more productive you could or should be doing with your time?

The trouble is that posts reflect what Frontier are doing (or not doing).

Before ED the forums were ..... peaceful.
At the start of ED the forums were mostly very optimistic and cheerful.
However, as time has gone on not all Frontier's actions have not been received so well and lately it seems the missteps have been increasing.
The real disaster would be Frontier driving community activity back to peaceful, no-one with much reason to come here anymore.

In written text it rarely does.
Might use some emoticon to highlight that side of the text...

Like:
:D or :p or ;)
etc.
Because saying things like

"Zieman I think you are a complete <censored/>"

is fine, so long it's followed by a Winky :p;)🤣

That is true, just like any relationship the worst kind of feeling you can have is apathy...
