A problem that I have with this game is that it's too slow

Congrats. Be curious how you managed it, to be honest. Played a good deal, and I can't get close to a Python. But then, I have switched ships a time or two, and I can't be bothered with the number of loading screens CG's require.

Good choices. Playing to my skill set (Bounty Hunting & Combat). Flying into spaces (locations in game) that work out for me (like high conflict or expansion areas). Selecting a Power Play leader that works with my skill set. I admit this game is a grind... but tell me what game isn't? Final Fantasy... Zelda... EVE... all grinds. Could try out Fruit Ninja?

Literally, I suggest everybody here who thinks this game is such a grind and is so hard go try out EVE. It even has a free trial. You will see a real grind. Travelling is even worse. You have to fly, for example, to hyper gates in order to travel between systems and that doesn't even touch on transportation in systems. You can't just spool up your hyperdrive and shoot to the next system.

Don't forget your character skills that will take a month to decide upon and then plan out because it takes literal years to build them up and will influence your choice of ship and kit forever.

This game, as has been said, is not a fast-paced game on many levels. But it is also not nearly the slowest on the field on those same levels.

Get a comfortable chair, grab a drink, clear out your day, and settle in. This is the best and almost only way to play Elite.

Oh and blah blah immersion blah blah.

Yes. I totally forgot about that. It was a few years ago that I played that horrendous good for nothing game. Added, you have to select a faction upon entering the game and stick with that faction through your entire play. You also are forced to look for secondary ways to make money, such as mining etc, or you are literally screwed. And you think PVP is bad here? You have the choice of playing Solo or in Group. Its "one giant sandbox" in EVE and you can get blown out of the sky just because some nerds mom told him to clean his room and he's having a bad day. Sets you back months in one battle. That doesn't take into consideration jumping into a "low sec space" where anarchy level is super high and its owned by a group of pirate players who pray only on newbs and run away from the elites.

I'll just say this, for the inexperienced it can be a slow drawn out process getting the credits for the ships, I remember when I first started playing this, apart from copious amounts of death, I had no idea which direction I was going in, and that's the thing with this game, it's a noobs nightmare.

Yep, I played Eve for a couple of months and absolutly hated it, but many like it and thats how the gaming market should be something for everbody. Main difference is i did not get on the Eve forum and complain that the game was not to my personel taste.:)

It's slower then it should be to travel through a system, it's slower than it should be to go from a RES and back, it's slow to earn money. This is the biggest problem with the game, since getting a new ship doesn't happen as often as it should. I don't think you should get a new ship every session, but the current time to get a new ship is a bit too slow. New ships keep the game varied, and when you are in the same ship for too long the game loses that variety. But anyway, that's my problem with the game out

I totally disagree with everything you said.
Space travel in ED is the best of any true to scale space game ever created.
Earning money is fast enough for sure. These days people fly around in Pythons after two weeks of playing. It is ridiculous.

I would like certain mechanisms to be improved and sped up, in a way.
For example I have been looking for materials that required me to kill T7 and T9 traders, or find a certain type of USS.
I did not encounter any of the necessary USS and out of the 10 or so T7's and T9's only 1 spawned the necessary mats.
Another problem was that in the several RES sites I visited almost none featured T7's or T9's.
This procedure takes too long and becomes frustrating very soon if one has nothing to show for it after 4 hours of playing.

Well true for most large complex unscripted game's I think, took me a couple of days and a bit or reading to get my head around Elite, but ive had far worst experiences with certain other games.

Used to like EVE. But the time investment grew to be too much. And the same is true for Elite: more and more, I simply lack the time for this sort of investment.

Wish it were not so, but it is...

You are right. I still have issues with learning certain aspects. Tried a bout of exploring this week and totally outfitted my Python wrong. Kind of miss my Vulture.

And Dark Souls is to hard right?
I'm all for adding some gameplay elements that give some instant jollies, but the core game is working as intended.
Plus there's generally a way to make a large amount of credits very quickly if that's your bag.

Wow, that is a lot of replies. I have just skimmed through them since Im just on my phone. I see some people agreeing with what I said, but I also see a lot of people disagreeing. I haven't played eve, so I don't know how bad it is on there however I don't think we should say that something else is worse so this must be good. Also I will point out that sometimes I might launch elite for a long sightseeing mission, or I might want to launch my vulture and kill some pirates, however a slight problem is that if I was doing the sightseeing stuff, and now I want to do a small session of bounty hunting, I have to make a journey back to my bounty hunting system, so that is already time off my session. I could call in my fighter to a nearby RES spot, however that will take some time where I might as well not be playing. And also, I think that the cutter, corvette and anaconda should be left to pretty much the last ship you will buy, and as a result take a lot of time. However what I don't want is when it seems way too far out of reach and is something I feel like it will take forever. I have to balance this game with school, homework and whatever I decide to do with my day, and this game seems like it demands a bit too much time. I will admit I was a bit off with my original post. It was the last thing I did before I went to bed, and I just wanted to get my message out there, I don't quite know why I said that it took too long to get back and from a RES site, however I do think sometimes stations take too long to get to, as you end up just staring at the screen not doing anyrhing. I'm all for immersion, however when it starts to hurt fun, then I'm not that happy with how far it has gone. When I wake up tomorrow I will go on my PC and try and read all the comments

A good way to combat tedium is with this forum. When I play ED, I'm usually here reading when I travel. There is so much to learn. I usually find a topic and by the time I read trough it I'm at my destination, so it's not too bad.

That being said.. If I couldn't switch to this forum or YouTube or something, I would agree that staring at the jump screen over and over, gets old quick. Supercruise too. So I do believe something is not quite right, when you have to occupy your travel time with some distraction to make it bearable. I do have a lot of hours in the game though, so a new player might not feel the same.

One of the biggest problems with the time commit to successfully play the game is that I believe it is limiting FD's sales of the game.

Ordinary people work for a living...

Stopped reading there as I do whenever anybody types this spurious nonsense. Where do you think the people on here get their gaming PCs from, the magic PC pixies? I work a full time day job as do many other people on here and if a player's focus is acquiring credits and new ships, having a job is no kind of barrier to it.

Eighteen months in.
Most expensive ship is a Python.
Just starting to get the feel for combat vs AI (outside of a wing anyways - I've been handy in a wing for a long time)

But the organizations I "work" for are doing well.

If you want everything for yourself, the game will disappoint.
Find a team to play for. - It will change the way you enjoy the game.

New ships do keep the game's variety up, which is why I always suggest that people shouldn't sell their old ships when they go to upgrade. You can fit the old ship for different activities and swap back to it for a change of pace.

Supercruise is supercruise, it either makes the game or breaks it for you. However if you've got a decent GPU there's always the option of digging out one of your old monitors and hooking it up for some quick browsing on the side. ED is pretty light on GPU requirements.

At the risk of being caught with your pants down....

You don't even want to talk about income.... When I was earning for ships income was 1/10th of what it is now.... It takes hours to do now what I spent months achieving, you don't even get a chance to learn how to fly the smaller ships adequately before you buy a Python and start grinding your little heart out, and guess what?

You've always got the opportunity to stop assuming that bigger = better and go buy something else to fly on the side for a while.

Edit: Oh, and if you think this is slow try a Marathon multiplayer campaign in Civ with 7 other people.

My record is 600 hours on a single game before we all gave up.

People with lots of time on their hands get their money from sources other than work:
> Parents, grandparents,
> Inheritances,
> Government subsidies,
> Unemployment checks,
> Social Security Disability payments,
> etc.

One of the requisites for being a really good ED player is to be unemployed. All the time otherwise wasted on making a living can now be devoted to this game.

I went from Sidey to Vulture in a matter of hours, back when I joined in 1.4 (18 months ago). This took several weeks, due to lack of play time. But compressed in to a single gaming session, it was probably 10-12 hours.
And that was from pure bounty hunting.
I was only in the Sidey for 30 or so minutes, and I only owned an Eagle for an hour before moving up to a Viper (which I swapped for a DBS).

Once I got my vulture all set up how I liked, I was taking in 6-7mil, per hour.
Then I got a Python, after just a few more weeks.

IMHO, that was actually too fast.

But, I still love my Python, 16 or so months later, and I also own an Anaconda.
And an FDL.
And a second Python.

Racing through the ships is a bit pointless IMHO, the Python is still my all time favourite ship, yet I own it's bigger brother, the Anaconda, which I've only recently bothered to use for combat. And it's a bit of a brick. A lethal brick, but it's handling is far from fun.

My advice, is don't race for ships, enjoy the ones you enjoy flying.
Bigger/more expensive isn't always better.
