A random idea for carriers... Use their tonnage for module storage?

Carriers have 25,000t cargo capacity sans optional services? Avec optional services tha is reduced by the tonnage of the service modules installed? Could we not transfer modules into that <=25,000t? So I want to store a 7a thrusters aboard my carrier, boosh! Available storage is reduced from 25,000 to 24,920 (7a thrusters weigh 80t) And an 8a prismatic shield? Certainly sir, but that will be another 320t used, what would you like to do with the remaining 24,600t? etc etc...

EEeekk it needs balanced! - OK - howsabout we make modules stored in carriers only accessible from the carrier, ie: inaccessible to module transfer mechanics?

So modules as cargo? Maybe they should just stop this module storage thing. You can have 1 module that is 320t, yet another that is less than a ton, but they take up the same 1 slot of module storage space.

Meanwhile, you have folks complaining about lack of cargo storage outside of FCs, while everyone has a convenient module storage that could fix both issues if it got converted into proper cargo.

Plus it becomes way more consistent. We have too many things that don't fit into the same category despite all being a physical space thing - modules, commodities and materials.

What happens to extra modules if a CMDR, either willingly or not, decommissions their carrier? Do they automatically get sold if the current 120 module storage is full or does the owner get to select which ones are saved?

If they aren't sold and end up at a nearby station like ships do;
Why not just increase module storage. 🤷‍♀️

Frontier simply needs to do two things:
  1. Fix silly cost/grade based module storage order with easier to understand alphabetic and categorized ordering options so we can find stuff!
  2. Increase module storage a bit after #1.
OP, don't give Frontier another idea on how to make carriers more complicated and buggy than they already are!

An interesting concept... Modules use cargo space...

Naturally, as everyone doesn't own a Fleet Carrier, the principle will have to be applied to normal hold capacity too, otherwise there will be outraged screams of 'PtW!'

..guess I won't store many modules on my Courier then 🤷‍♂️

(sorry, Jay... I got in before the rush ;) )

Maybe an idea would be to give say 1000 storage units that you can use for anything, then assign a given unit value to items so for example you may have 10 point defence modules take up one unit because they're small, but a s7 PP take up say 3.5 units.

Arbitrary values there of course but it would then allow commanders to transport their own modules as cargo instead of paying transfer fees, as an option.
