A Simple Solution to Combat Logging

For another "Dead Thread" in beforehand as we all know. ;) But I mentioned exactly that in my post that you just quoted.It#s "better" that theylog than to "hide". But it#s not me to decide. I (We (e. g. my squad)) will deal with it.
Ah yes I see you are from GPL. Good Bunch.

Personally, as someone who doesn't enjoy PvP, the difference is comms.

Usually out exploring, so when I am in the Bubble I often fly around in Open to experience some sweet player interaction. Quite disappointing when the vocabulary doesn't go further than "pew pew pew". It would be fun if there was more comms chatter, and I could talk my way out of situations.

You'd totally like joke pirating then.

That's when one or more CMDR's interdict you demanding "tell me a joke or die". They might even explain that any language will do. You tell your favorite joke and then they let you go on your merry way.

Some of the interidicted CMDR's will try and clog out of these kind of situations as well...

Issue is 90% of the PvP community do not roleplay. They see you, pull you and boom. That sums up their elite experience.

It would be nice if many roleplayed and gave themselves a reason other than, He was there so I shot him etc.
I thought you were against grouping all PvP with that stigma?

I personally feel, as I read through the comments here, that the whole stigma surrounding PvP needs to be thrown out the window. How most PvPers are grouped together with Gankers and how actual PvP in game is just ganking at that is that. Which is simply not the case.

Like Han Solo or Malcolm Reynolds? Good luck with THIS plan!😁

Ahhh, this thread is as old as time itself. It's comfortably safe to say that if people want to combat log, it'll happen.

People are quite insistent on being able to blow up the other ship... If the mentality was that if the other pilot combat logs... YOU win.

I'm sure in any war, if the enemy just simply vanishes, and you can claim immediate victory, it's the king of all wins.

Which brings us to the topic of BGS and Powerplay being Open only, but that is a topic for another thread.
In a game where PvP is optional there is no justification for PvP-gating these base-game features over five years after the game released - acknowledging that Sandro did put forward Open only Powerplay (and very specifically Powerplay only) as one potential change to the status quo in his first Flash Topic in May'18, and he left the project soon thereafter. The BGS, on the other hand, has had a number of clear restatements of what it is and who it is for, i.e. it is for all players, regardless of game platform or mode - and therefore seems to be off the table for Open only.

But... those "Bay-splosions!" Must have them! ;)

Wait... how long is it exactly since the infamous Sandro thread was proposed till the current again?

Starting to lose track here... I mean if it was so "imminent" then it must have actually been implemented already, right?

Is this still a topic? Combat logging is officially an exploit abuse, period.
No, FDev have shown they are not interested in adressing this issue, even if the solution would be as simple as claimed in the OP's post.
You could probably present FDev a free solution some third party provides and they'd decline. They just don't want to fix it, atleast they haven't shown any efforts in that direction. Sure they say they take it seriously but they don't do something that supports that statement.

Timeline:
June'15: Powerplay launched;
March'16: Open play Powerplay bonus proposal "Hand Grenade";
May'18: Flash Topics on Powerplay: investigation into potential change to Open only;
Late'18: Sandro confirmed to have moved to another project;
March'19: Will's post advising that some of the proposals in the first Flash Topic were under consideration;;

Oh yes, that's right... so over 9 months ago and nothing has yet been implemented. Or am I that bad at math?

I mean, if it's so important to implement, wouldn't you think it would be done by now? I mean, they've been selling ship skins and other things like hotcakes over the years... surely such would be high priority on their list of implementation?

Maybe because they aren't able to counter c-logging properly in any form with the current build of Elite: Dangerous? I don't think that they WILLINGLY want to discourage their customers or even to annoy them.

I think they are more engaged with bug-fixing at the moment. We'll have to wait till the next dlc. Who knows? Maybe with this dlc they will "fix" PP or parts of it? Or we have to wait until the mentioned "rebuild" of the codebase of Elite. I can only guess, but my best guess is, that a rework of PP and/or C-Logging is not fulfilled with 3 lines of code.

They literally igbored clogging reports that has been proven twice as true from SDC back then. At this point what they say or say they are willing to (do) doesn't matter. What matters is what they do about it and during the past 5 years the amount of steps they did is next to zero.

It's something of a misconception that the people who create ship skins are the same people making systematic changes to the game's framework.

Also "consideration" to "high priority implementation" is a pretty big jump.

Alas, we can all only "guess" considering it's been almost/over a year since their original announcement that "OMG things are going to change!".

And here we are... all still waiting for that "change". Yeah, there's a reason why I have been away for so long. ;)
