Hi guys,
I've been enjoying some of the best gaming of my life thanks to ED and a DK2. After spending countless hours tweaking my system, the NVCP, the DK2 itself, etc, I can now finally say that it's as good as it can get. And it's GOOD. No, GREAT. No going back to flat screens...
...And then I dropped the DK2.
Not as tragic as it first sounds. The only damage is that I can't turn it off now, short of pulling the DVI cable. The headset is permanently on. A couple of questions:
-- Does anyone know if this is relatively easy to fix ? ie. If I take it to a competent electronics technician, should he be able to take the thing apart and fix the on/off switch without screwing up the headset ?
-- A workaround solution I have found is using the Oculus "mode" panel and parking the Rift in "Direct Mode" when I'm not using it. That doesn't turn off the headset, but I get the orange light instead of the blue one, and the screen is not lit. Am I right in assuming that this does not fatigue the pixels (no risk of burn-out) ?
-- Is there any downside to having the Rift in "orange light" mode for extended periods of time ? Or should I pull the DVI when I'm not using it for extended periods of time ? It's a bit of a pain to do since my tower sits under my desk.
In any case, it still works fine with ED. The incident doesn't seem to have affected the settings or gameplay in the least, but it's slightly annoying. Any ideas ?
