About docking....

I'm colourblind. Green and Red were awful choices FD. Really awful.

If travelling slow and in the right light conditions, then I notice one side flashes. I avoid that one if I can.

Generally I feel if you're not boosting in and causing other pilots to scream and take evasive action then you're doing it wrong.

In the eagle I generally announce my plan to enter/leave the station, then boost in. For cutters not heeding the warning ... I do try to not hit them, but they do have a big a.. big nacelles.

In the corvette I am a bit more responsible and only boat if I get one of the pads in n the back for shield assisted docking.

I do stay more on the green side though.

PS: undocking in reverse is fun in a vette.

With a Beluga you just go for it... whatever is approaching the mailslot from the other side, you will hit it, no matter what.

The only way i've found in ED to get an adrenaline rush so far, line up smack bang for the middle, get 1k away and hit boost :).

I always keep the green lights on my right side. Yes, American here. I drive on the right side of the road too.

Anyone else notice things like this? I imagine that UK players think I am upside down at mailslot stations.

Generally, I do the opposite of this. I always go in/out on the green side, but in Imperial stations, if green is on the left, you can read the ads on the left (up is in the same direction for them). On Federation (and I think Alliance and Independent) stations, the ads are oriented so they are legible if it is on the right.

Then again, sometimes I just don't care which side is up for me. But I always try to stay on the green side.

Something fairly interesting happened just now....

So I was exiting the station, and a cobra was "in my way". So I went around and found myself on the "red" side. No biggie, I'll just thrust back to the green side, sideways, while still headed towards the exit.

Then I rubbed shields with an incoming Eagle, got a 100 CR fine, cuz the Eagle was coming in on MY GREEN SIDE. The shield-rub happened cuz I was still thrusting towards my green side, then suddenly I saw him break the force-field coming in.... so I tried to thrust back towards the red. Managed to avoid a full-on collision but shields nicked each other.

That struck me as kinda odd, since it should have been red on the outside, wouldn't it? And it was an NPC ship not a commander.

Anyway, no videos, can't prove it.

Don't try it with a Cutter. Smashing up a billion credits of spaceship that can't stop in time is an expensive way to die.

I think you guys have got it all wrong.

You aim for the red side, you must go no slower than 200mps, preferably with boost, and must be barrel rolling. You get extra points for all the ships you can hit on the way in.

Any other way of doing it is for wimps...

The NPCs leave brown skid-marks when they see me coming!

Try that with an NPC beluga on the way out. You might change your tune.

It doesn't matter what side you are on when a Beluga is transiting the slot, it takes up most of the slot anyway!

:)

Exactly.

Despite it being a problem for you and other colour blind commanders, the real-life standard is red and green lights with green to the right. As 777Driver has already mentioned, FDev tried to cater for you by making the red navigation lights flash. In real life navigation no such allowance is made.

The flashing lights are designed for colourblind cmdrs. Green side stays solid, red side is flashing. NPC's and Docking computer will always fly green lights to the right.

Yes, flashing helps. But as stated in my original post - speed and lighting conditions. Smuggling runs can be interesting when the starport entrance is lit by a nearby star. And I do love me some smuggling. :D

In real life you get more than 1 or 2 static lights flashing. For a runway, you get a whole wave of them, lighting up the strip.

I guess several thousand years on the colourblind are generally disregarded and not taken seriously.

I have learned my lessons, in public it makes sense to announce your comings and goings if you have a big ship!

(I have seen Craith dock and the man is an artist for anyone who is interested)

There's probably a stim for in-universe vision correction in 3303. Maybe a brand of performance enhancer.

Hopefully so. Maybe baldness is included?

As for the people playing today... well that's a more relevant matter tbh.

That was kind of the obvious part, and not the direction of my comment. Thanks for attempting to make it personal, not many people are observant enough to be that snarky. ;)

Other than what they've already done, what else would you want to see as a visual aid?

It's all cool. I'm colourblind and bald. Both from an early age. I might seem snarky, but really it's just general cynicism - no target intended. I come across as bitter generally whatever I do. [big grin]

I would like to see some other colours. Maybe even some more directional lights added to highlight the entrance to the starport. Even add some navigational extras for those of us with a disability. But don't ignore or mock us, that's just lame.

Statistically speaking 10% of the male population is affected by colour blindness. And red/green is the most common.

FTL is a 5 year old game. Left 4 Dead is a 9 year old franchise. Yet, colour blind mode is something they have both had from day 1. No red green from them.

List all the lore explanations you like. Then remember the gaping holes elsewhere.
