Listen, I ain't saying I'm a good guy. But on the frontiers, you gotta get by somehow. There’s a food chain out there, and we ain't even the ones on top.

The poor schmucks at the bottom, traders and miners with no better place to go, they got it worst. No mercy for them. They’re our prey, we can’t afford to be getting sympathetic now.

But us, we got it hard too. Is that trader a trap? Is some hunter lurking in shadows? We's always watching our back, else we end up prey too.

The pilot would be gone for hours, maybe a day, and the flight technician couldn't blame him after those long months exploring, logging the data of countless unknown star systems.

He was entitled to blow off steam in whatever way this crappy isolated station could offer.

Systems checked out fine... minor EM damage, nothing swapping out a few computer modules wouldn't cure. Cheap tuneup.

It would be weeks before he got back to Fedspace and discovered his booty was now dummy binary junk.

Pocketing the module and whistling, the tech clocked off.

Yaar! indeed. Forget that lasers and eyepatch stuff.

OK a quick check of the entries show's that I had a little word missing... so I have edited...
We also have an entry that is technically 5 words over due to it being a script and these words being names or directions of the script.

Technically not a drabble, but due to lack of entries I will let if pass if everyone else is happy to... OR Splendour you are welcome to edit it if you wish.

Things were going well for Captain Kidd. His crew had found a solitary space-cow full of luxury goods. The trader had grumbled, but handed over half his cargo.

Even at black market rates, an Anaconda hold full of luxuries would turn a handsome profit. Now it was time to offload the booty. Suddenly there was the sickening sound of the interdiction warning. Was it the law or another pirate?

Three Cobras from Blackbeard's gang approached. After a tense stand off, he released some cargo. They were too evenly matched to risk fighting. As the Cobra's left he muttered 'Damn pirates.'

The Last Sundown

They repelled the pirates but not without casualties. The crew were very fond of their first officer and they wanted to give him a funeral worthy of a man from New Valhalla.

The shuttlecrafts landed on a beach and they printed a Viking Longboat whilst setting up camp.

The drinking and revelry stopped at sunset. All eyes turned to the burning boat floating further into the crimson horizon, a solemn group in novelty Viking helmets.

As the planet receded from view the Captain filled out a report form. "Reason for delay?"

The Captain mulled over his reply. "Pyre at sea"

Damn, if only I'd known about the piracy theme earlier... Would have had a great joke about going through the start-up sequence, only for some undecipherable text to come up on the vid-screen. Lenslok'd!
