Deep Thought Rises

Three computers were used to calculate the outcome of a probable attack from the Thargoid's.. Deep Thought was left out this time, as it turned out that someone had typed in 10.5 x 4, which may or may-not have affected the result of the master program.

"So, whats the answer?" asked one of the many scientists involved.

"It's coming now, Look!" answered another of the many scientists involved.

After many years the answer was finally coming.

"And here it is" said yet another of the many scientists involved, holding up the print-out.. proud.

looking lost he answered..

"It's 42..

...again"

Only ten Drabbles this week. I looks like I picked a good week to host. Go on! Make me work a bit harder. Let's see if we can get a few more entries in before all the Alphans get busy doing <erm> other stuff.

I'll have to see if I can come up with something, but it's not good timing, I've got to try and blow all my credits on a stupid missile setup before Alpha 4.

Oh no! Not again.

What happens to your missile setup when I press this button.

Oops! I appear to have turned you missiles into a Sperm Whale and a bowl of petunias.

What the book says about Raxxla

The mythical lost planet of Raxxla was of course neither mythical or lost, at least not to it's inhabitants.

To the rest of the galaxy, or more accurately the fraction occupied by humans, it was a legend, home to whatever wild ideas were fashionable at the time. Some speculated it was a gateway to other dimensions, others claimed it was home to secret organisations . None of this was true.

The truth of the matter was that the inhabitants of Raxxla had grown so tired of everyone else that they had decided to have their planet removed from galactic maps.

Du(n)e Taxes

“We’re not lost; we've entered the Muad’dib system.” The Cruise-liner Orca Captain’s voice chuckled, “Just one, dry planet, ‘Dune’.”

A huge, fully-armed ship loomed up. Passengers gasped in fright. Was this a pirate attack?

The Captain lit up a large sign on the forward bulkhead:

DON’T PANIC

“It’s Dune’s Customs & Excise people. It’s customary to pay a special system-entry fee.” the Captain calmly informed passengers.

Several cargo canisters were off-loaded and transferred. The customs officer sent a message.

“You are welcome to inspect Dune from orbit and to travel through our system…
Good day, and thanks for the fish.”

Another two great stories brings our total up to 12. Come on you people! I know you got another 13th in you. Just ignore the rummaging, banging, and occasional swearword coming from behind the developer's curtain. Concentrate on getting me that Drabble.

Lost and Harmless

Five years… lost. Five years thinking what a bloody spoon I am. Stupid “Harmless” me.

I’d been a pilot just three days when it happened, getting my first kills in an uncharted asteroid belt. I was elated, distracted whilst supercruising right into a giant rock.

Now I’m stuck here, drive broken, eating dry recycled food. Dry and flaky.

But what’s this? A ship nearby! I hastily re-rig my missiles as flares…. and fire.

Oh. Whoops… Should’ve turned the homing off.

As the explosion blossoms I receive a message, my first in years – “EFP notification: Pilot rank revised to… Mostly Harmless.”

important news for everyone

Yes the moment you've been waiting so long for is finally about to happen! In just two hours time I'll be putting up the poll for the "Lost In the style of Douglas Adams" Drabble contest.

As always any stragglers just yell for me to wait if you need me to wait. I'd rather see more Drabbles in the contest than the poll going up on time.

I'm not passing judgement on anyone's Drabbles this week (apart from all that voting stuff). I'd noticed that for the last few weeks whenever I've pointed out someone's Drabble as being rather good then that person would do badly.

As an experiment this week I'm keeping quiet about my favourite entry to see if it fares better without my "help"

And the poll's up btw click here to get there

Haha, yeah, it's a bit odd that - if people start talking about who's in the lead etc then suddenly votes for that person stop.

Thanks Frank.

Between Taxi runs for the kids and A4 release I had no more room in my mind for the drabble poll. I hang my head in shame and will do my utmost to register my votes (in between watching A4 streams :))

No need for thanks. It was a pleasure. Thanks to everyone who helped me win last week's contest.

I got the spangly jacket back from the tailors. They've spruced it up a bit for whoever decides to host this week.

This week's subject is... FAMILY

Good luck.
