In some cultures the salute can be offensive and because we have very little control over the instances we find ourselves in. It is possible you may have found yourself, in such a place. I also understand that F.D. have been testing an instance; made just for blind people and so you could have found yourself there; which would also explain why no one saw you.

However: It could be that they saw you, recognised you from here and then chose to keep their heads down. I get this all of the time. I drop into a system, see a few Commanders and say 'Hi' and the next thing I know, if they are not combat logging; they are throwing their ships, into the nearest star.

It's a good point, especially as my in-game name is the same.

I'm not exactly discreet LOL.

You know, it's funny. I recently started playing in the PC universe after two years on XBox. I heard all the cries about griefing and ganking and not having seen it in the XBox universe, I assumed it must be present in the PC one. After 40 hours in game. Several trips to CG systems and engineers, spending a lot time in Dahan, and even going to the Gnosis; I haven't seen a whiff of PvP consensual or otherwise.

Hooray for this thing?

Purposefully keep logging into Open.

I haven’t seen another player since the eighth.

I’m not surprised, since I play during the European Prime Time, and I live in the United States. :)

If I don’t reply, it’s because I play in VR, and the Coms Panel is awkwardly placed even on a monitor, let alone when I have a whole bridge’s worth of windows to look out through. ;)

Yeah it's really not that bad. Only reason I'm taking a break from Open is for personal wellbeing.

Not any problems with anyone else, just a little more comfortable being alone right now.

Lost months and months of data once coming back into the bubble to a cmdr who insisted I drop some cargo for him from my none existant cargo hold, apparently he'd hailed and waited probably 0.5 seconds before hitting my unarmed DBX and I was a coward for trying to jump out of the system.

When you have been out a long time you forget how to do stuff as you've forgotten what keys to use, I almost died in station once because somehow I forgot that I'd turned rotational correction off and had a hard time getting down - yes it was very flashy! got find for damaging the pad I think?

It's weird but you really do forget how to do stuff! High world landing no worries - land in a station - danger danger Will Robinson!

Coming anywhere near the bubble I get very cautious (but still in open), I see what is going on and try to pick a system that may appear to have low traffic and approach the bubble from a direction that I have found in the past to be reasonably safe to approach, when jumping in close eyes are on hollow target alert, my interdiction avoidance skills are quite good now and hardly ever lose as you can't afford to when you have no weapons and one slow old tug boat, I did use the heat abilities of the DBX quite well to occasionally pop open the odd adversary as I really skim in close to the sun if i can.

If I got a hail I'd instantly go into panic and think oooh noo runaway especially if I hadn't noticed a player...

But it is that dangerous element that makes heading back in get the hairs standing on the back of the neck and make me feel so great when I finally get back in and upload the data.

Agreed lol Im always terrified of docking after I come back lol

I'm an xbox player. I never play in open. Sadly.

I enjoy the BGS, the explorration and yes to a certain extent the mission and passenger grind. I do not expect the game to set out a 'path' for me. I enjoy the personal narrative of setting myself goals and working through them. I LIKE the open nature of the galaxy that allows me to play as though this is a simulation rather than a story line I have to follow.

I dropped into open a few months back to meet up with a CMDR at sagitarrius A*. Mostly just to take some pictures at the centre of the galaxy.
So, I'm 25,000 Lys from sol idling in my unarmed DBX chatting to this fine chap, when an anaconda drops into system and takes us both out in seconds.

His excuse.... "exploration is boring - go buy a decent ship loser."

So he basically spent hours gaining the credits to buy and buff a 'conda, then deliberately sets out to fly to sag A* just to drop in and out of system and enjoy hitting CMDRS that mostly can't fight back.

So I lost a ship and had a rebuy - annoying, somewhat costly, but not the end of the world i guess. However I lost about 3 months of exploration data and ended up docked near colonia - 200+ jumps from sag A*

Now, to a great extent, he has the right to play the game as he wishes. But the thing that makes societies and communities work are agreed behaviours with risk and reward and also CONSEQUENCES. The crime and punishment system is utterly ineffective at dissuading or dealing with this kind of behaviour.

Now in a roleplaying sense i accept the incident. It makes for a part of the story and my 'personal narrative' in the game. If nothing else it's something to talk about. But in the real world it basically means i have spent 2-3 months playing and flying around the galaxy and have no in game assets (exploration fata) to show for it.

There is NO other aspect of this game where the loss is so significant. If you get destroyed your insurance covers most of your ship's cost. You may lose a cargo hold of goods which has a value but thats unlikely to be 100's of tons of rare goods. You don't lose materials, tech or data. ONLY explorers have the position where they can lose VERY SIGNIFICANT volumes of effort and assets in this manner.

This is an area frontier should have addressed with the review of the crime and punishment system.

So. As a consequence I play in solo. I'd be far happier flying around and meeting the vast majority of elite CMDRs that I presume are decent human beings. But alas, poor game mechanics, coupled with a few utter arseholes, means this isn't likely to happen any time soon.

So you experienced a setback in a game, and rather than challenging yourself to increase your skill level decided that the game itself was flawed? Got it.

At least you're flying in the mode best suited for you. But what if an NPC gets you next time? Will you demand "supersolo"?
