Activities for Explorers / Exobiologists

Given that the hand held scanner gizmo is broken in update 9, what are you explorers up to?

I have been doing the following:
  • Scanning high profit bodies for credits
  • Scanning Biologicals (When the scanner isn't broken)
  • Photographing different species / genus / colours of plants (200+ collected so far). To be honest most of them look the same.
  • Attempting the Cannonn Challenge. About 1/4 of the way around.
  • Trying to discover new stuff - Not much yet!!
  • Keeping an eye out for Raxxla. Though I found it once, but turned out to be a dirty mark on my screen.
Getting a bit bored of jump, scoop, scan, seen it, and repeat. What other fun activities have people found to do while exploring?

i was always a fan of hypergiants. first i visited all real galaxy hypergiants ingame, now i'm visiting those procedurally generated (less than a dozend). and listening to science podcasts while doing so. very relaxing.

Here's what else to do:
  • Shop for a new tie.
  • Make macaroni.
  • Do cardio.
  • Don't let the existential dread set in.
  • Don't let it set in.
  • Vacuum the rug.
Have fun!

  • Working from home. Don't need a tie any more.
  • Don't like macaroni
  • The only cardio I do is when doing vigorous movements on my HOTAS. Otherwise I'm a couch potato.
  • It has not set in. Update 9.2 will not introduce more bugs.
  • Update 10 will fix the bugs that update 9.2 introduces.
  • vacuuum the rug. Yes, that will increase my cardio.

I listen to LOTR audio book found on YTube . and drift about the galaxy looking and poking at things =-)

I have been thinking about this and here are my new suggestions for budding explorers:
  • SRV stunts - inspired by the stunts submitted by others to the FDev event.
  • Trying to land my SRV on top of my ASPX
  • Canyon runs
  • Flying through the legs of the Thargoid queen on that outer rim planet.
  • Side scooping

Right, I should chime in with something serious too, that you haven't mentioned yet:
  • First and foremost, don't just use the route plotter to jump 40+ systems in a row, look at the galaxy map from time to time
  • Look for rare stars, and once there, rare atmospheres as well, use the varied lighting for some cool photography
  • Keep an eye out for nearby planetary nebulae
  • Meet up with others from time to time
  • Do targeted surveys, usually for research into the Stellar Forge - or hey, there's plenty of data publicly available, anyone can do research of their own too
  • Try to gank molluscs by bumping into them, get blown up instead

Okay, that last one wasn't serious, don't do that.

I came to the forums to ask about the state of exploration. I'm looking for excuses to get back in the game, and I've always loved explo. Sadly, it seems like things are about the same as when I left. Here's hoping for some serious exploration content in the coming updates.
