Hello everyone! I've been a longtime lurker here (since before the game's release...) and recently got back into this zoo-designing thing. I definitely agree that birds (and monkeys!) are severely lacking in the current game, and as such I put together this little exercise. The rules are simple: add one bird, aviary or habitat, to each DLC pack including deluxe. You're also given 20 bird spots for the base game in addition to the birds already there. I'll start:
Base:
Greater Flamingo (already present)
Common Ostrich (already present)
Indian Peafowl (already present)
1. Blue-and-yellow Macaw
2. Bald Eagle
3. Andean -of-the-rock
4. Rhinoceros Hornbill
5. Resplendent Quetzal
6. Hyacinth Macaw
7. African Grey Parrot
8. Toco Toucan
9. Great White Pelican
10. Wood Duck or Mallard
11. Victoria Crowned Pigeon
12. Guam Kingfisher
13. Rainbow Lorikeet
14. Scarlet Ibis
15. African Pygmy Goose
16. Wattled Jacana
17. Sulphur-crested Cockatoo
18. Raggiana Bird-of-paradise
19. Bali Myna
20. Golden Pheasant
Deluxe:
Abyssinian Ground Hornbill

Snowy Owl
South America:
Harpy Eagle
Australia:
Southern Cassowary (already present)
Laughing Kookaburra
Aquatic:
King Penguin (already present)
Atlantic Puffin (or Osprey)
Africa:
African Penguin (already present)
Grey Crowned Crane
Europe:
Mute Swan
Conservation:
California Condor
Twilight:
Kiwi
Tropical:
Roseate Spoonbill
Southeast Asia:
White-rumped Shama
North America:
Burrowing Owl
Wetlands:
Red-crowned Crane (already present)
Shoebill
Grasslands:
Emu (already present)
Lappet-faced Vulture
Arid:
Secretary Bird
Trying to think about how best to cover major groups and continents is tricky; obviously this setup would still lend itself to "missing birds" but at least it would open the door for modders to take care of the rest. If they were given butterfly treatment, even more species would be possible. Your turn!
