AFK Capital ship camping for free money

Why does the Capital Ship shoot you for no apparent reaosn when your on its team? Anyone noticed this?

Could lose rating by losing fights or fleeing from them or doing poorly vs one that is below your rating.

I think if they figure out the AI a bit more, the difference in AI rankings should be more apparent. As it is now, I don't really even look at their rankings, cuz they all pretty much act the same.

Of course, that may be too "deep" for this game I don't know...

Figure you could do the same with trading, you lose your haul (from pirates or bad piloting, etc. ) your ranking could go down.
Then you'd just be complaining about how solo mode made Elite ranking worthless, so I don't see how that's any better.

Except that the British Empire is a gigantic multi-nation empire with a massive amount of military funding and power to the point where they can build ships the size of cities for the singular purpose of killing.

The 13 Colonies are a small faction occupying the eastern seaboard on an undeveloped and unexplored continent, and nearly no power compared to the British Empire. Wouldn't it break the realism if they had equal chances as the British? And wouldn't it be silly if the British capital ship didn't show up to help? You don't just ask the rebels nicely to not overthrow your government.

Funny how changing just a few words and places can upset the applecart. Quite unrealistic. Maybe history is wrong...

Me or the general forum goers?

If they made the elite AI...actually ELITE and hard to beat and noticeably more so than the dangerous AI, I wouldn't care one bit whether a player did it in solo or open. I think it would be very difficult if not impossible for some ships, AI controlled, to even be ELITE though.

I am sure that players who are not Elite at combat would certainly be on the forums complaining about the ELITE AI...If I had my way :p

Except for the fact that in 1778 the French declared war against the Brits and sided with the colonies. The French aid is considered
to be the decisive factor in the Colonies winning the war for independence.

This part of the history is generally forgotten about by most people.

Shhhhh, that's part many in US would like to forget :)

I think the argument is it should matter, but it doesn't

Why should it?

Its far from just a childs game. Video gaming is an adult recreation enjoyed by millions now, but far from a childs game. But it is still a game. Just enjoy by millions of adults as much as the Movie industry etc.

Honestly, those of you complaining sure love doing nothing but trading to earn cash. This latest event is incredible for those of us with no patience to sit there and grind 7mil to get out of a cobra and start getting into larger ships. The grind is absolutely intolerable and I usually just let Elite collect dust because of how boring it is to move up to a larger ship. I want to play with a Python or Anaconda, or even an Asp or whatever, but I can't because the game is so damn boring to grind credits to get to that point, I just never really play. Trading sucks, there is no effort required, and its boring. Bounty hunting is fun, but the payout being as low as it is makes the grind even worse. Being punished for wanting to have some combat is stupid and a terrible design decision. I am GLAD this exists because it takes away a lot of the grind and lets people move up and out of their cobras or vipers they have been in for countless hours trying to get something better. If they actually add in real gameplay instead of catering to traders who like making money in the most boring and easy fashion, then this game would be fantastic, but as it stands, this event and ability to rack up a ton of cash in combat bonds has been the most exciting thing I have encountered in this game.

Your point have been raised and rebuffed countless times in the thread. Reading the previous posts help.

The new rewards are fine... The no effort tag everything and let the cap ship finish it off gameplay is not...

Yes, not to mention fire at will turrets x 4 on a ship, 4 combat bonds each time is possible, i know my 2 turrets were sometimes hitting different targets. But i have to agree, a more fun way than trading to earn decent creds.

...Might have been my parking spot. I was nose to nose with the cap ship so i could get a clearer shot above and below it. ...

I used two class 1 pulse laser turrets. They occasionally hit friendlies, but it's rare for them to hit a friendly enough to cause them to go hostile. I does occasionally happen, but I had time in every instance to get back to my computer and get the ship out safely.

Your biggest problem was probably using the Anaconda. It's too big. Ship has dozens of times the surface area, but only double or triple the shields, of a Vulture....

I think it was your parking spot, uberdude. You were sitting somewhere the cap ship was in your firing arcs. Morbad was in a ship where a turrets firing arc is all above his hull because it has no ventral or lateral hardpoints. Since he was sitting on the cap ship his hardpoint position made it impossible for his turrets to hit it and aggro it, even if he was using more than c1 pulses.

I know this is an unintended consequence of the changes introduced to prevent kill-stealing by NPCs. While I'll freely admit that kill-stealing cops irritated me, I'd take that over this.

I still find it funny that everyone thinks how many credits CMDR BillyJimmyJoeBob has is any concern to anyone other than himself.

As for rankings... They really don't matter, at all... And that itself is wrong.

I don't think it's right that we can turret boat whilst AFK and get credits, sure. But tell me, what actual difference does it make to you? Find it too easy? Don't do it. Think people are making too much money to quickly? See trading. Argue whatever you please, there is very little EFFORT involved in trading and less risk than turreting by the cap ship. You load up, undock... Fly, dock, unload, repeat. At least you run a realistic risk of being destroyed... Not that that makes it right.

The fact of the matter is, the only PROPER fix is to remove Capital Ship swarms. Nerfing bonds is a step backwards. Making NPC kill steals happen more often, bad idea. Both of those will effect ALL aspects of combat and not the ONE that is actually "broken".

I found it immensely funny when people started going on about how it makes Elite rating meaningless because they grinded their way to it...
Newsflash! This just in! The only way to get to Elite is to kill thousands of ships! By its very definition, it is a grind.
No matter how they did it, they mindlessly killed thousands of ships to get there.
Name one Elite rated pilot who knows the name of every pilot he killed and the details of every fight he had and I'll show you a psychopath.

Just wondering... wouldn't quite a simple fix for this be for the capital ship to do a 10k orbit around the area? So it takes it around 10 minutes to make the loop?

If someone's sat underneath it, they'll get revealed in about 30 seconds, and out of defence range in 2/3 minutes. I guess it would need additional programming, etc.

People keep saying AFK, but if they're using turrets, don't they need to select a target before it'll start firing? Also, as far as I am aware, they can't target multiple enemies. Can't see how they can do that AFK.
