AI Wing and Crew for crying out loud.

I just think it's about time. For balancing the Wing pilots or Second fighter slot can be saved for Solo. Or as a rule in Private modes. Wing pilots can easily dock or idle when you dock. Launch when you launch and use the same AI package to follow you as they do other NPC's.
  • Own an extra ship? Hire a pilot. Pay less than crew due to providing a ship.
  • Need an extra pip or omni-directional basic scanning? Hire a co-pilot. Less than crew take but a higher cost. Maybe 50,000 base price.
  • LET US USE THE SECOND FIGHTER SLOT SINCE WE CAN HIRE 4 CREW MATES FOR SOME REASON...

  • But if that doesn't work for Frontier....

  • Sick of empty bridge? Hire a "cosmetic only" co-pilot to fill a chair and state the obvious.


Just my thought.

Also crew mate insurance... Just another original purchase price to get them back.

I can see it for solo. But I see an exploit in Private mode. Because it basically it the same as Open but controlled by Players.
 
to crush exploits, any bounties acrued by ordering your crew to attack an illegal target are paid by the cmdr, and placed on the ship the crew member was piloting, or your own in cases of fighters.
 
i just want the features which were teased with us in dev diaries and DDF. that is what encouraged me to buy the game. everything else is gravy.

sometimes features get retconned.... but fundamental features such as hiring crew to help fly our ships or to use as escorts to be retconned out and instead moved to multiplayer only features just aint cricket imo.
space legs, atmos planet landing... all sounds cool but i would be far more excited myself about DDF wingmates and crew along with the RPG training elements and side missions which would have accompanied them (doing certain missions for them to increase loyalty, or do the wrong thing and they could mutiny etc etc)
 
Imagine the fun you could have as a pirate with this. Your own private pirate fleet would make a lot of people very very happy, as it would with traders who could use their fleet as protection.

One change I would make would be ship selection restrictions.
So you can have 4 ships I would restrict it to

1 large, 1 medium and 2 small (or 3 small)

2 medium and 2 small (again 1 medium or 3 small etc).

This would stop players who can afford it flying 4 Uber cutters for trade (I know the bgs/PP brigades would have kittens if a solo player could suddenly do 4 times the work) or rocking around in 4 Corvettes blowing up planets and stuff.

Maybe the captain of your other ships gets 50% of any profit from that ship.

Triple the insurance for ships your not flying and increased maintenance costs while running them.

A good solid NPC crew mechanic is long overdue.
I have been offering proposals to that accord ever since the multiplayer multicrew got implemented.
I don't do multiplayer. A good NPC crew mechanic would be more important to me than walking around.
 
I’ve just got a picture in my head of going pirate flying a Boa with three vipers as escort for my skulduggery (not ashamed to say a little wee came out the thought excited me so much)

to be honest it would make more sense if they were NOT your ships.
back in the DDF the idea was wingmates could be players or hired hands......... but they were never your ships, so if you flew in a wing of 4 T9s you would still only get the trade profit of your T9 - + any wing bonus.

And it would not be OP for killboat murder hobos because if in a wing of 4 with 3 npcs, you would have your full wing so no player could join you.
 
Yes, I want this.

This should be as simple as current multiplayer.
But instead of human bots will control wing mates. Yet "TODO" is how to say what you want them to do, either set role (in this case it will decide what to do in specific conditions) or give them direct orders (attack my target).
