Speaking of math, what keeps bugging me is how a ton of grain occupies the same volume as a ton of gold (I'm not even speaking of tons of slaves now as I assume it's just a placeholder until we get a passenger mechanics). I remember Chris Roberts speaking of how in his game there would be separate concepts of mass and volume. Would be hillariuos if that arcade space shooter ends up having better physics than all-so-realistic-simulator Elite Dangerous.
The Cargo Canisters have the internal volume to hold a metric ton of wheat, or what ever the most voluminous commodity is, I forget what the Devs said the dimensions were
All commodities in bulk trade are sold by the ton and place in a canister.
All Cargo Canisters are therefore are just over a ton, and due to a desire for standardisation, a canister isn't filled to the bring with gold, ending up over-weight.
Transport, stacking and placement on a ship is all simpler due to the cargo canisters having a uniform size, shape and weight.
