Allergic reaction to vive

Is it just me or do others suffer any allergies with vive
My lip starts to burn and goes numb after 30 minutes or so,definitely the vive as it only happens when wearing it and goes quikly after I remove it

I don't have a Vive but rather a Rift but have never heard of anything like this. Given you say it gets better when you take it off that does make it seem it's the Vive. Do you have any other allergies? What is the face guard made of, fabric, leather or plastic? Have you tried placing something between the face guard and your skin, maybe even some tissue paper as a test?

Very odd - very curious what you figure out. Do you ever wear ski or scuba goggles? Do you have anything like that to test with? I've worn my Rift for 12+ hours straight a few times and while my face gets a bit sweaty and it'll leave a mark after that much time I've never had a reaction like that. Bummer for sure.

Hi thank you for replying
I think it's the rubber nose guard that effects me, I suffer from many allergies including food
I guess I'm just unlucky, I hear many complaints of rift rash from the rift so you are lucky

its that god awful face foam....
Ive replaced mine with a velour one from vr cover, and ill never use vives again

The foam made my face "prickle"

If it is the nose guard you could possibly wrap it with some fabric and stick it back, maybe keeping it off your skin would help.

It could be pressing on a nerve or blood vessel if the sensation returns to normal after taking it off.

This is possible. I had some dental work done a few months ago and wearing the Vive was uncomfortable until it all settled down again. You have a nerve on each side handling your upper lip and teeth running from roughly below your ear to the centre of your lip below your nose. That's where the lower side of the Vive interface presses, below the cheekbone. OP should try loosening the straps.

Yes, I agree, nerve pressure may be to blame. Loosening the straps could help.

But also, quite a few people are sensitive to some kinds of rubber and latex etc, so an allergic reaction can't be ruled out either.

I found the area around my sinuses would ache and I'd also get muscle aches, which was because the weight of the Vive wasn't balanced for my head shape, which I resolved by either lengthening the top strap, or shortening the side ones (head sizes vary of course!). Owning both the Rift and the Vive though, I find the Vive more comfortable now it has been adjusted!

Before getting the VR covers for the Vive, I cut out a bunch of single use covers from "Press'N Seal" that I would wrap around the foam thing. When we'd have friends over, other people's sweat soaking into the foam was a bit gross.

I keep my spare wide face one for guests but thay come off easily and wash in soapy water.
As for my reaction it could be a nerve thing because I have faulse teeth and the mask presses my plate into my gum a bit and gives discomfort,il try with them out lol, if that doesn't work il try other suggestions given here by cmdrs
I had to give vive a rest the last few days because my head hurt with eye strain but I will report back with any progress
Than you all for your posts

Interesting, I haven't yet tried a Vive (Rift owner) but from the few I've talked to that own both all have said they preferred the Rift in terms of comfort. The main complaint I've heard is that the Vive is front-heavy and as such it tends to put more pressure on your face rather than distributed front/back like the Rift. Adding the extra weight of the Vive, while minimal, I'm told is also noticeable.

What other big differences would you say about them? If you only could have 1 which would it be and why? I know I'm a Rift fanboy but when I recommend it over the Vive the issues are weight, cost (assuming you don't care about controllers) and bigger choice of software. For that last one I mean that the Rift can play all games from the Oculus store and Steam where the Vive is only Steam. I know that Revive can enable many Rift games for the Vive but many users don't want to tinker or hack, they just want it "to work".

Your thoughts on that? Am I right or am I missing something and off base?
