EDIT- War in LHS 2494 .. 2 x CZ's Sadly..it seems all such conflicts are 'bugged'... I'm assuming this one is as well. Anyone know?

Minutemen? Really?
I know you 'Muricans love your patriotism, but this is a global game with a global following, and that's a very parochial name. I certainly can't see many UK based Alliance players wanting to join this little clique.

I'm not American I'm from Somerset :) I think most of the people here are from the UK. I also don't think you can call this a clique, it's open to everyone.

Miuteman is an appropriate analogy for what we do. We are a militia, fighting for a cause we believe in, ready to respond to a crisis or attack at short notice. I like it :D

Mark 2 uploaded. Let me know what you think.

Inkscape and Photoshop.

Excellent.. I like it :D .. changing my avatar ..again.

Very nice. Added it to my sig if that's okay.

We could always drop the Minutemen nickname if the name has unsavoury associations and just go by ARC (though we'll be missing out on the double meaning suggested by Dayrth), but if the objections are based purely on it being part of one specific country's history then I'm honestly not sure what the problem is - as you said, it's a global game with a global following, and that means it is easily large enough to incorporate multiple viewpoints and nationalities. In context the name fits well - volunteer colonists forming themselves into a quick response militia to defend their government's interests and territory.

For what it's worth, I'm an Englishman living in the UK, and I think it's a great name.

I only call it a clique because I find the name cliquey, not because I find the concept of the group cliquey (I very much like that bit).

I appreciate the analogy, but I do find the historical association a little suspect. It's obviously not particularly offensive, but I do find it extremely unappealing.

I agree with Sealurk ..and of course...we always endeavour to get to combat 'hot spots' in a minute :D ..give or take......

Breaking news:

Edward Lewis Community Manager

Hi everyone,

We're excited to announce that Powerplay is launching for all commanders today.

The galaxy servers will be going down from approximately 15.30PM BST for up to 6 hours.

Thanks to everyone who played in the beta.

If you haven't seen it already, here's the launch trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWPhk5Gclbo

Change log on the way,

Ed

Powerplay is out, HURRAH! :D

No Elite until 8:30 pm, BOO! :(

I think a broader term like "Alliance Rapid-Response Commando" or something might work as well.
(Alliance Response Crew? Alliance Rapid Commando? Alliance Reaction Corps?)

After all - we'll likely end up being not just a pure Combat role, right?

I must say...I like Alliance Response Crew

That's good news, but mildly annoying - I didn't get back in time to hand in my last mission, so completed it but no payment. Meh, it wasn't that high value anyway. You can have that one on me, whatever Alliance faction you were.

Slightly bad news, though possibly not - there may already be a Federation group called Minutemen. This may of course not affect anything since our main name is ARC.

I am trying to get my head around Powerplay as I wait for 1.3 to install. From the little I have read ( very little) it seems that we need to be careful not to spread ourselves too thinly but that shouldn't mean we are not pro-active.
Fed and Imp players may well fancy the opportunity to clash head-on but I have the feeling that our relatively weaker Alliance may well become the subject of unwanted attention and be viewed
as a more 'softer' target by both Fed and Imp players.
We need to recruit and as well as consolidating ( fortifying) what we have I am wondering if by going on the offensive ourselves, in chosen targets, we will occupy the strategic thoughts of 'the enemy' and spread their forces more thinly. I'm babbling here and probably stating the obvious... ( or not) or maybe I'm talking rubbish.... need to study Powerplay more!
I can feel the adrenaline as 1.3 installs and can't wait to get together with you Alliance CMDRs .... Our universe is about to change radically....

Edmund Mahon looks the least charismatic of all powers :(

1 Power for the alliance is not enough

Totally agree, though I do wonder - maybe I'm reading too much into it but the wording in the newsletter specified the powers 'at launch', so we're likely going to see more and I think the fact that we currently only have one power is very deliberate and only the start. The fact that Mahon is also somewhat lacking in charisma may also be deliberate - right now the Empire and the Federation are the big players, with the Alliance in third place, but with enough player interaction this will hopefully change. The Alliance may just turn out to be a sleeping giant, especially if the Imps and Feds stay totally focused on each other (does Powerplay allow for false flag operations?).

Yes, I would like to get back in my Type 6 before the Sun turns into a red giant. I still have to make a couple of dozen jumps back to my Cobra before I can do anything as part of the ARC!

I think a combination of concerted efforts to 'flip' systems to the Alliance and perhaps even more importantly defending our territory will be order of the day for us. With some luck the two major powers will remain mostly focused on each other, allowing us to seize a system here, a station there until we're sufficiently powerful to challenge one of the major powers more directly. Then again, I don't know all that much about how Powerplay works yet either.

Really hoping False Flag operations are or at some point become viable. Maybe a utility mount module that allows you to mask your faction for certain length of time?
