Alliance: Call to Arms

Wing training last night. Did not go as well as it might have. Just Frank and me turned up at Leesti. We jumped in to our stock sidies and off we went, only for me to be immediately interdicted and shot up. Back to Lucas for repairs. :(

Second attempt was more interesting. Again interdicted almost straight away, but this time Frank was with me. It turned out to be a Master Python. We battled for ages with me trying to stay behind him and in the blind spot and Frank swooping in and blasting him from the sides. The tactics worked, our two little sidies against a Python and we were winning :) We managed to get his shields down and then the police tuned up to give us a hand. When he was eventually dispatched it was back to Lucas for more repairs.

Unfortunately, that turned out to be the highlight of the evening. On the third foray out things went awry. Once again interdicted almost immediately (they really had it in for us). This time by a Diamondback Scout. Less trouble than a python you'd think, but something was up with the instancing. Frank could not find me. I dare not make a run for it knowing that I would be mass locked (the sidewinder can be mass locked by an Eagle :( ) and probably blown to pieces before I could jump out. I was desperately trying to stay behind that thing but it was incredibly manoeuvrable, I just could not keep it in my sights. Talk about having a tiger by the tail.

It seems that Frank was not the only one having trouble finding me. As time went on I began to wonder where the police were. After what seemed like hours (but was probably about 5 minutes), there was still no sign of them. I checked to make sure report crimes against me was on, it was. The dance went on. I was landing the odd blow and mostly managing to avoid getting blasted myself, but we were getting nowhere. This went on (...and on and on...), for ages. At one point I managed to drop his shields, but then he managed to avoid me until they were back up again. :(

Then at last the police did arrive. Soon after that he was toast. All that effort and what I got was 200 credits :(. I jumped back in to supercruise and then Frank could see me, but I could not see him ??? I dropped out of SC and back in again and then there he was. Trouble is it was then so late it was just about time for me to pack up. Frank wanted to go and do a bit of the Hutton CG so we called it a night.

Not the most successful evening, but did prove once again that with a bit of cooperation you can take on the big boys, even in the smallest, weakest ships armed with fixed peashooters. :D

Frank swooping in from the sides as if that was my tactic... I was trying to stay behind him as well <grin>

I know I was blaming instancing when we were practising. But I don't know if maybe I was doing something wrong. There was a point where I could see your low energy wake but couldn't follow you down into it. I approached it slowly at 50% throttle and suddenly it would whip past me without the chance to cut SuperCruise and fall into the same normal space. Do you know why that would happen?

I had been practising my descents down low energy wakes, In fact during the night I outran an interdiction and went back down the commander's wake to see if I could still do it. My apologies to the commander I did that to. I was just checking to see if it was still possible and I went back to the lessons before engaging in any text messages.

Dayrth, did you have your nav beacon set? I had mine set and when I was interdicted you were there immediately. I am a bit rusty on the whole wing thing. Can only one person in the wing have a beacon? Is there a good tutorial on flying in wings? I really think the hassles we had were my fault, but because I didn't know what I was doing wrong we weren't getting anywhere in the lesson.

It is a good job we called it a night when we did. I arrived at Hutton Orbital after 11:00pm. All us ARC pilots should go over to Hutton though, to offer our services. Once I was out in deep space there isn't anyone about to hassle me but when I pulled away from the nav beacon I was interdicted a couple of times by pilots trying to scupper the Community Goal.

Frank, you have not to drop to low-wake of your wingmate - just nav-lock on him in contact tab of communication panel, so you will automatically drop to his (hopefully) instance when you close (something like 100 ls) to his low-wake. Just do not forget to cancel nav-lock when jumping out to SuperCruise, otherwise you will be dragged in again, if your wingmate still there.

What I did was go to the comms menu, select you and choose wing nav lock (or something like that). Then I get pulled in or out of SC with you. You can tell if you are locked because a square appears around the wing member symbol on your hud.

That may have been the problem. I didn't get dragged down into normal space with you. I thought I did have the Nav lock on but if it never worked automatically then I might've disconnected it by mistake. I hope you don't mind if I see out there to just spend a few minutes seeing if that was the mistake I was making.

Well, im docked at 78 Ursae Majoris (Read Station). I boot up the nav system to take a stroll around the neighborhood before i head out to complete a mission, then i notice a CZ about 900ls away. I drop in to take a look at the details and suddenly get a warning of a federation ship dropping in and see this...

I nearly sh*t my pants when i slammed the brakes. So, Alliance (Sobek Boys) vs Federation (78Ursae Majoris for Equality) in 78 Ursae Majoris.

I have been away (again), but now I am back :) Thought I would spend some time in a CZ and put Epiphany (the new Python), through her paces, only to find all the wars had ended. Thankfully Hollis_Renatus spotted the new war in 78 Ursae Majoris. Even more thankfully there are 2 high intensity CZs, so I didn't have to take on the capitol ship. Got to say I am loving the Python so far :D

Took part in the war at 78 Ursae Majoris for a while yesterday (not in the CZ with the capitol ship though ;)), trying out different weapon load outs on the Python. Then went over to BD+29 2405. Only low intensity CZs there, but lots of them. Finally settled on the combo I like best. 3 x class 3 pulse lasers and 2 x class 2 rail guns. The rails make a lovely bang :)

No updates on the war front.

It being Thursday, I will be heading off to Leesti this evening for wing training, if anyone would like to join me.

Still no changes reported on the war front.

Wing training last night was good, a couple of friends and myself met up in the usual place, swapped in to Sidys and grabbed some cans of bio waste. Out in the void the cans were dropped, we moved to a set distance and on the word raced to see who could grab the most (I was last every time  ). There were a lot of other commanders around Leesti and we drew some attention. One in particular could not understand why there were three high ranking commanders in a wing all flying Sidewinders. One of my wing told him we had 'all been ganked and didn't have enough money for insurance.' :D

After that game we went out looking for trouble. Didn't take long to find it. Beating up the big ships in a little 'pack of piranhas' is great fun. At one point I was interdicted by a Conda. I managed to stay out of his line of sight and even eventually dropped his shields, but he had a friend in a DBS and I could not avoid taking damage from him, so legged it.

That's where the evening started to go wrong for me. I was on my way back for repairs when more trouble appeared. The others were in a fight and I though I would help out. Turned out I was no help at all and got myself blown up. No problem though I. I'll just get the free sidewinder rather than pay 700 cr for exactly the same ship. Off I flew, but could not find my wing-mates anywhere. Then one of them spotted that I was in Shinrarta Dezhra. What was I doing here? Not the last place I docked! It was getting late, so we called it a night. I got myself a better FSD and headed back when I had parked my Python. When I got there I picked up my Python and decided to head back to my home system before rapping up. Almost as soon as I hit SC I was interdicted by a commander in an FDL. I dropped and we had a bit of a fight. I was clearly loosing so made a run for it. Almost instantly I was tagged again but this time managed to avoid the interdiction. Then within a couple of seconds interdicted again and could not shake it. I was dropped from SC taking damage and set upon by a wing of two one of which was the FDL. Before my FSD had cooled down I had lost thrusters and a few moments later my beloved Python 'Epiphany Rising' was a cloud of floating scrap :(

Thankfully not the end of the world though. I don't fly without insurance. A lesson I learned the hard way a long time ago ;)

I have finally set a date for something I have been intending to do for some time. I will be taking an extended break soon. Not from the game, but from civilised space. I did a bit of exploring ages ago in an Asp and always wanted to do more. Now I have a working Python I intend to spend a month or so out in the black. I'm not going yet though. I thought I would wait for Horizons. I thought it would be very cool to be the first person to LAND on an undiscovered world. So I intend to go a wandering in January. I will still be about on the forums though and try and keep abreast of the Alliance war situation so I can keep the call to arms posts updated.

It was good fun in the wing training. The sports event I kept muttering on about is..

We will need to get some form of communication sorted out. Typing is too slow. That DBX was knocking the stuffing out of me as well but I was too busy avoiding the laserfire to type "Let's get the hell outta here!". Maybe I should set it up as a macro <grin>. I take it that neither you nor Xakaz heard any voice communications from me? I'd set my controls up for "push to talk" so you wouldn't hear my VoiceAttack commands.

As much as it pains me to say it, I think we might need a TeamSpeak channel. If we all disappear into the cracks in the Galaxy for a bit of exploration then CQCC will have to be the place where we get our wing training. TeamSpeak becomes the most viable solution in that case.

I could hear your comms switching on and off occasionally, but no voice. I think teamspeak would be a good idea. I will have to try and get my mic working.

Sports event looks fun, but just at the moment I am low on cash (spare cash has been going in to upgrading the Python and last night had to shell out 6 mil for insurance), so don't know if I could buy a Hauler and kit it out for racing right now.
