Allow exploration and exobiology data to persist on death

Perhaps it's time to revisit some of the losses on death? Surely there's a way to put a data drive on the FSD escape pod that returns you to a station that keeps backups of your exploration data.

Previously this post said exploration data was lost on SRV death, which is wrong. Only codex and exobio data is lost on SRV death, although even if you boarded your ship and got back out in an SRV after getting that data, you'd still lose it.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! Say that again?!

SRV destruction now results in you losing all exploration data??

Is that true? Has anyone confirmed that??

Whoops, disregard that, it seems it's only codex and exobio data lost on SRV destruction. My bad.
Although I did reboard my ship after I got the codex and exobio data then got back out in an SRV afterwards, so it doesn't bank your exobio and codex it seems by getting on your ship.

Oh, phewf! That's a relief. 😌

And presumably you only lose the codex and exobio data retrieved during that SRV session?

Anyway, I still support the concept of a black box that contains the data that was lost by the ship (https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/there-has-to-be-a-way-to-recover-exporation-datas.574868/).

I'm less inclined to worry about data lost during a single on-foot or SRV session, because the time required to re-collect that data is much shorter than the time required to recollect the data stored by your ship after weeks/months in deep space.

Maybe we should write down death penalties:
Exobiology is lost at any death - on foot, srv or ship.
Dying on ship - lose everything, right?
On-foot bounties are lost when dying on-foot, but exploration data is not lost
Dying in a CZ is ok, no on-foot combat bonds are lost

hmm... guess someone should do a nice table

I think when I tested it I lost exobio and codex data from a previous planet I visited. So you can't bank codex and exobio by returning to ship and all codex data seems to be at risk when you go out in an SRV.

If that's true, that still doesn't sound very good.

At the very least FDev should change it so that Exobiology and Codex data is secured when you return to your ship.
