Allow players to purchase system maps for credits

Hello. I made a post about this earlier in the exploration forum but I figured I should put it here too.

Lots of systems have populations, stations, outposts, etc. but start out completely unmapped, requiring you to go to the system and map it yourself if you want to see its system map. I was thinking, since people live there, that doesn't make much sense, at least for systems in the bubble.

I mean, come on.

There was, supposedly, an option to buy the maps of any populated system within 20ly if you are docked at a station. However, upon testing this, I found that the button is redded out regardless, ensuring that the only way to map these systems is to visit them.

My proposal is thus to make it possible and then easier to buy system maps without actually visiting them yourself- increasing the 20ly cutoff to something a bit more reasonable would be a definite good start. Allowing these purchases to be made in-flight would be good too, but not as necessary. Obviously, for the further-out areas such as the various nebula outposts, Colonia route stops, and Colonia itself, actually visiting them should be incentivized, so the distance limit shouldn't be done away with entirely. Just something like 100 or 200ly, enough to allow someone to acquire a map of the whole bubble without travelling to every nook and cranny of it at least.

Thank you.

I think it comes down to if that station had that data sold to them or not by a player. If not then it will be redded out.

I always forget to check it since the Beta because I get distracted, but you could definitively buy system maps while docked from neighboring systems up to 3.2. Not all systems or not always complete maps (apparently depending on data sold by Cmdrs) but I liked to fill a few holes on my list. In Beta, the button was there but always disabled.

Since every ship has a scanner on board and it reveals all planets that were discovered before, I don't find it as useful now. Keep in mind that the data had variable prices depending on planet types, so buying all systems one after another would be rather expensive and time consuming.

Price isn't an issue to me, as long as there's a way. My goal here, eventually, is a full map of every populated system. I just think it makes more sense to be able to buy that for ones closer to home, then after that I can go on an expedition to the nebula outposts and Colonia.

For some reason you can buy some but not others. I don't know the excuse F D have for this but I suspect it is that all the systems which in the pre-3.3 days were already "known" are now "unknown" until you go there, whereupon suddenly everythings is in your nav computer. The systems where you can currently "buy" exploration data I suspect are the ones that in the old system would have been unknown to you.

This notion of making just about every system in the bubble "unknown" after 3.3 is just stupid.
