Allow use of pre 3.3 Advanced Discovery Scanner

Whos idea i wonder, was it to steal the old ADS module out of everybodys ship?
It was not (or should not have been) stolen as such - the player should have been refunded the cost of the relevant BDS/IDS/ADS upgrades that were removed from their ships.

That being said, I do agree retiring the xDS mechanic in the way FD did was a bit of a low-blow despite the refund.

Hate to see my favourite thread sink off the front page. I posted that in there cause they said they are listening to feedback, just doing my bit to bring the issue to the fore :)

It makes you think you don't know what to think!

perhaps it should read...
Hello everyone, We just wanted to let you know that 'someone probably' read your feedback and we decided to move on and do something that's not been asked for... as usual, those of you wishing to cast an uninformed vote on the one of the 5 unknown destinations please do so.

Ho hum!

The problem is that these two, by design, can't really reasonably coexist. There's been plenty of suggestions, but they all don't eliminate the core problem: if the old mechanics are still in place, there is no reason to even have the new ones.

Why is that? I'd use the ADS to get the system map and the FSS to get the detailed scan if I so wish, what's the problem there?

I do understand that perfectly and like to hunt them out myself. But I prefer to find them using the FSS, seeing these oddities reveal themselves while scanning the system instead of having them given to me on a plate is what I really like about the FSS. Seeing how the system is laid out bit by bit is great.

Discovering it myself is great.

And how would the ADS detract from that? You can go about your business and I can go about mine if we had both.

Phoenix Dfire gets it, and said it 100 times better than I tried to.

Essentially if you liked the ADS, you should love the FSS. I know I prefer it. I'm taking way more site selfies, finding life on planets, geological formations - all of which I didn't do with the ADS.

I "should"? Who gets to say that? For all intends and purposes I'd much rather enjoy the current system yet I don't.

Funnily enough, you are the first developer I've ever spoken to who thinks that. Like, literally the only one.
No sensible company, in my experience, maintains legacy unless they absolutely have to.

Frontier just did that with mining, they kept the legacy way of mining, and there was no need for that.

What a beautiful strawman that is.

And my statement is the same. There is no objective reason to keep it.

Are you sure? Many people could come back for it's return (I know I would) and frequent players pay for skins and add possibilities for more players, in other words, they would probably earn more. That's objective enough for me considering everbody likes money.

That may explain the low doom reading.
I quite enjoyed reading the isolated posts from Gregg Rulz, and I don't see the doom at all, either for Elite Dangerous or in those posts, there's a positivity in me today since Will Flanagan posted an acknowledgement on the problems facing players using FSS... so all will be well... soon, probably!

Yeah but he posted from the point of view of fixing it not allowing any choice over using it. Sadly.
