Why drive away even 1-2% of your playerbase unnecessarily?
Because they won't. Most will adapt. It will be a very small amount of people that will stop playing, probably because the FSS does not dictate to them whether they enjoy the game or not. They can get over it. What's done is done. Is it worth the effort and potential issues of adding it back in just for the very few the stop playing.

The beige plague was a bug, and was eventually fixed by an overall rework to planet surfaces.
The beige plague happened due to an unforsee issue of optimasation of planet surfaces so they could run better as FPS would tank on every system.

It didn't get fixed because of players complaining.
It did get fixed and the reason why it took so long, you have already said. They had to do a complete rework of the shaders.

Also, while it might be 80-90% of explorers who complained about it, it certainly wasn't anywhere near that percentage of the forum as a whole.
I think it was the forums on the whole. Nobody want to fly around in space looking at bland planets. But okay then lets say around 90% of explorers and about 50-60% of the rest of the forums. It is still a significant amount of people of the forum users.

Heck, it was only acknowledged 3 months after it was reported.

I remember because for those 3 months I had been discussing with those who didn't believe in the beige bug until Michael finally confirmed it.

Okay, it took players complaining about it for FDev to confirm it was a bug. But that's different from the ADS being deliberately removed.

The already have quit Max.
You can downplay the numbers all you like, but the bottom line is that people are no longer playing the game because of something that FDev did, that they didn't need to do, and which could be easily resolved.

Some probably have. Also some players have also come back because of what FDev have done. As long as the player numbers are good, I doubt FDev are really going to care.

I agree. The thing with the beige plague was that around 80-90% of the players in the forums weren't happy with it. I am sure if 50/60/70% of the player base was complaining, something would be done. But it's more likely 1-2%. That is the major issue I believe.

The thing is, by adding what the "1-2 %" wants, the other 98-99 % won't lose anything. That is not the case with beige planets, either they are or they are not beige.

I said it may. I would likely adapt though, even if I think it's made the game worse as there are other parts of the game which are still very good.

Great news then, if someone as oposed to the idea of reintroducing the ADS like you will likely not leave the game, then it's safe to say that virtually nobody will as a consecuence of this, thus, giving more support to my main argument.

Not so fast. I was in discussions with people for 3 months who denied the beige bug existence because they found a planet that's kind of grayish. Added to that the people who claimed that situation was more realistic, and all those colours before were the mistake.

Situation was far from unanimous.

edit: get your point though, if FDev add the ADS again to please the 21.7% who want it back, the other 78.3% won't have any downsides to their game.
