I have had 5 years enjoyment out of this game/sim and I don't mind paying for that enjoyment.

A friend Of mine payed £50+ for half life alyx....
He told me it took him 17 hours to play through it and said it was worth every penny. When I said "but will you play again" he said "maybe in a year or so".

I believe £30-£40 for me is a good investment for the next couple of thousand hours playtime.

My thoughts exactly.
Almost word for word.

Been in since F:EII and have come to terms that Elite is just part of my life, therefore worth it.
(yes the: love, hate, fanboiism, comments and forum posts, disapointments and what not else)
WORTH IT!

Edit: just want to know till when the deluxe version is available.

Interesting how many don't seem to have an issue with paying a successful PLC to be a game tester for them.

If that's what people want I suppose Frontier may as well take advantage. Why pay in-house testers if you can simply charge your customers to do the job for you instead.

I know I rather wait until the final product, and I don't want to spoil the game by playing a most likely horribly buggy pre-release version of it only a couple of months earlier, and it's not like you can keep any progress either.

I'm just waiting for FDs announcement that, in a major slap in the face to backers, LEPers will have to pay for Odyssey. ;) :D

Thing is nearly all of those who have alpha or beta access (who paid) won't do actual proper testing for Frontier. They will log in to the alpha and beta just to see what it's like.

I know, but I called it if it DOES happen. :D

As an aside, I have two alts: one with a LEP and one without. Basically I may pre-order the non-alpha version for my second alt depending on more detailed information from FD about the limitations of Odyssey (i.e. solo gameplay options, etc.), otherwise my money stays in my wallet. :)

Glorified demo access basically.

And the evident lack of testing is already visible in the game for some time now.

I don't know but the pre-order details have put me in a bad mood when it comes to Elite, and the way bugs are fixed (or rather, not fixed) over time.

Seeing how patches for bug fixes for other games (cough Cyperpunk cough MSFS cough) are handled doesn't help either.

Yup this is very true you had to buy Horizons Beta Access.. and as i recall if you had been a Beta tester of the core game you got 10% off when you purchased the Beta Access and also you got the Black Friday Paint Jobs with it also..

Now the Beyond Chapters Beta access was all Open and free access to all. I personally have no Problem paying for the access to the alpha and Betas as i have done since 2015

I bought the alpha version. I see it as a way to support the company and to hopefully help squash some bugs.

It is only 20 dollars or so extra. It isn't that much and I see it as an offer to help with funding while getting something tangible.

I can understand the principles behind refusing the offer. "They should pay me" etc. and I see nothing wrong with it if you see it as an employment offer.

Though, I would think it is a good thing if you smart people would see it as I do and give them an extra 20 and apply yourselves to helping identify bugs and offering suggestions and feedback while the game is in its most flexible access stage. Critics can be good for the game

I also don't get the "supporting Frontier" argument these days. During the kickstarter period, sure - but Frontier is a company, a publicly traded one by the way, and one that does rather well judging from the financial data released (which is good, of course). Not a charity case that's at the risk of running out of funding if we don't chuck them a tenner.

Will any game progression be carried over to the main game from Apha?

I know the saying about what happens in Beta, etc. but what about Alpha?

IMO If any progression carries over from Alpha, then purchasing Alpha access could be seen as a kind of an early pay to win mechanic and unfair to some of the ED community who may not get access to it.

you don't have to bother, what you make in alfa stay in alfa.
