Alternative to a Scenery Pack

Let's imagine that the developers at Frontier run out of ideas for potential building themes for Planet Zoo but still want to keep the game going. Therefore, what sort of alternative could they use to keep the game going?

Here's my pitch: The Mechanics Pack Structure

Like the scenery pack, we'll get five new animals. However, instead of choosing the animals based on a construction theme, the choices will correlate with a new in-game mechanic. There will also be a few props/decor included as well. Here are a few examples:

Arboreal Pack:
  • New Game Mechanic: Playgrounds
  • Matschie's Tree Kangaroo
  • Lion-Tailed Macaque
  • Virginia Opossum
  • Hamadryas Baboon
  • Exhibit: Parson's Chameleon
Petting Zoo Pack:
  • New Game Mechanic: Animal Petting and Feeding, specifically for some animals that can have guests enter their habitats.
  • African Pygmy Goat
  • Pot-Bellied Pig
  • Highland Cattle
  • Shetland Pony
  • WE: Budgies
Safari Pack:
  • New Game Mechanic: Giraffe Feeding Station - It will include a customizable feeding station that snaps alongside the border of a habitat. Guests will be able to feed giraffes from an elevated platform. I might also throw in a smaller ground-level feeding station for other docile animals.
  • Masai Giraffe (Just to correlate with the mechanic.)
  • Secretary Bird
  • Honey Badger
  • Nile Crocodile
  • Exhibit: Elephant Shrew OR Naked Mole Rat
Let me know if you think that this is a good idea or if you can think of any other mechanic-based packs.

I think the mechanics are a great idea. I'm not quite as keen on the Giraffe feeding station, but that's only because it would be for one animal - or two if the Masai Giraffe was added.

One thought I had immediately was some kind of "tug of war" rope. Guests grab one side of it and the animals grab the other side. The rope is positioned in a special barrier piece. This could be used for a number of our medium and larger sized carnivores - the felines, the canines, perhaps the bears but I'm not sure on that last one.

Yeah, that's why I included my comment for two sizes of feeding stations: one elevated one for giraffes and one ground-level one for docile animals like ungulates or capybaras.

Also, I did consider a tug-of-war enrichment piece for guests and animals, but I didn't think of it until after I left my computer for a bit.

I like the idea of packs Focus around new mechanics / behavoiurs like the aquatic pack was. The arboreal pack in particular is the one i think it has the best chance to be a sneaky South América pack part 2 and for that reason i think it should be an animal pack:

1. Ocelot
2. South american coati
3. Spider monkey
4. Black howler monkey
5. Matchie's / Goodfellows tres kangaroo
6. North American porcupine
7. Scarlet ibis
8. WE: Macaw

With added brachiation to the orangután.

As for the petting zoo i think i would like a roster like:

1. Any duck
2. Patagonian mara
3. Squirrel monkey
4. Whatever domestic people would like (a goat i guess) since it fits but i prefer another kind of wild animal, even a tortoise 😅
5. WE: parakeets / budgies.

I would include the feeding stations in this pack.

The Safari pack could come with new photography features and challenges like we used to have in ZT 2.

As for the roster for such a pack i think it should be in an animal pack format.

1. Secretary bird
2. Serval
3. Nile crocodile
4. Blackbuck
5. Grey langur / hamadryas baboon
6. Honey badger
7. Grey crowned crane
8. E: Indian cobra

I feel like in this case they would just move on to all animal packs and would sprinkle in a bit of scenery within the free updates. Honestly I'd love that though cause I could take like 2 more good scenery pack before I, and I assume most other people, have everything they could ever need.

As for the ibis and macaws, I'd prefer the pack to be more focused on climbing animals than flying ones. Don't get me wrong, I want flying birds as much as the next guy. I just think it'd work better. That's why, when looking at your lineup, I think I'd prefer to replace the ibis with either an old-world primate, a Virginia Opossum, or a Brushtail Possum. I'd also swap out the macaws with a tamarin, marmoset, bush baby, or small arboreal lizard. I'd also replace the North American Porcupine with the Brazilian (Prehensile-Tailed) Porcupine, but that's just a personal preference of mine. I have a soft spot for them after interacting with a porcupine named Rosie at Busch Gardens Tampa. She was so cute!

I actually prefer the brazilian porcupine as we'll but i said NA just for some variety. I would gladly take a roster comprise of all SA species like tamandua, kinkajou, olingo. A third primate felt like something imposible to expect from a Frontier pack ( two is a stretch already ). I also thought to include birds because they are the most arboreal animals of all 🤣
