Am I missing something or is this ED in a nutshell?

Sorry, that was more of provocation to get conversation going what other 'currencies' could be used to reward players with new modules.

We already have a million and one currencies that can be earned by just playing the game. Just add some of those to the blueprint if they feel the 'time required' would be too low otherwise. This should be just a two-hour unique and fun addtional element to the unlocking. Even if they feel time is an issue, this is not the way to solve it.

I think it is fair to say it just doesn't work. Whatever solution is - I don't have slightest idea. I don't concentrate on modules for my gameplay, and I guess that's why I steer clear from these emotions but my guess balance is off as far as forum feedback goes.

Thank you guys for comments.

ehmm...
Seems that FD will never abandon their basic premise "galaxy wide, inch deep". On the contrary they will implement it to every single aspect of the game.

The entire game IS the ruins. How is repeating the ruins any different that doing a passenger mission - because you fly to a "different solar system" - how is pressing J over and over with the same loading screen any different? How is AB trading any different or a CZ?

It's not grind - it's extremely shallow games that you repeat, over and over with a slight variation in that maybe it's a slightly redder star than the last system you were in or sometihng.

If you took the credits out of the game and made everything free - you'd lose half the player base. That's how much gameplay there is.

The ideal solution would be to design the game to include more varied game play rather than repetitive grindy mechanics.

For example, instead of requiring 24 blueprints to unlock the tech broker items, maybe have every orb contain 1 out of 5 different blueprints, and then change the tech broker to require 3 of the 5 blueprints to unlock each item. Now instead of grinding one ruin 24 times the player would need to travel from ruin to ruin searching for the mats, but upon completing the event once they now would need to move on go the next ruins. This breaks up the event with other actions like flying the ship and searching more sites. Overall the time investments could be the same but the work required would be much more varied.

I agree. This is basically one simple quest in a game, which you need to do multiple times to get something. Doesn't make much sense to me. There should be a number of these places with slightly different blueprints scattered all around to make it a bit more interesting and varied.

I highly doubt I will be doing it 24 times either.

The Guardian sites are amazing, the puzzle is really nice - and there's a little bit of risk there from the sentinels.

The repeating game loop though is just far, far too much.

I felt the same way, but originally thought I was running up against some kind of bugged mechanic. Now it appears that this is functioning as intended? WOW! I got sick of not being able to land at one of the last sites, so I headed home with the intention of returning this weekend.

That was before I noticed last night that the new Ram Tah mission has vanished from my Transaction Panel! WTH?

Try as I might... I just can't motivate myself to continue with this whole thing. Just not worth the effort in my opinion.

The Guardian gameplay is surely a letdown. I´m glad I got my stuff from the bugged obelisks. Today, I´d never do this. In a "normal" game, there would be a mission, which gives you the stuff you need after completition. But this suggestion to relog feels weird. Get going, FDev.

There is a simple solution to this, and that is to not do it.

FD keeps metrics. When it was large sections of the player base didn't engineer at all when it had commodity requirements, the commodity requirements got removed.

So, don't do it 24 times. Do it once, or not at all. Don't get the new Guardian weapons immediately, wait for FD to realize nobody got them.

Even the damaged stations got their requirements reduced to 10% of what it was because people (with some exceptions) weren't doing it.

Don't like something? Don't do it! I've been in the game over 2 years, and never pledged to any Powerplay Power because I had one look at it, and decided that was not for me. Do what you enjoy. And then go do something else.

Exactly this.

When I saw that after completing the Guardian puzzle I gained only one weapon blueprint and realised I had to do this another eleven times I loaded up my SRV and left.
I'm not going back there very soon unless there's something else to discover but certainly not to get the twelve blueprints.

That's what they have instead of fun/inneresting (US spelling ;)) 'game'. Some bright sparks at FD came up with this! Bless 'em.

This is my new approach. I only get irritated with this game when I try to engage in the content.

I remember I tried to join a power and do power play...LOL...
Then I tried to engineer my ship which caused me to stop playing for months until 3.0...

Now I'm just going to relax and do some occasional bounty hunting. Maybe I'll get lucky and do some wing missions.

I think it’s a safe bet from experience with game grinds in general to just wait for it to be nerfed. These modules don’t give a huge advantage to me in pve and that is all I do so...

Exhibit A: Repair destroyed stations.

I agree, that the rinse and repeat style gameplay at the ruins is nonsense. Even worse that a relog is required to collect the data again, for which I have to leave the area.

I hate to say this, especially as I'm not familiar with the roles and responsibilities, but gameplay-wise Elite got worse since Michael Brookes left - i.e. I have mixed feelings about Sandro (and his outfits).
