Amazing player interactions outside of community goals

Tick night in the Felicia Winters expansion of Capo proved to be an intense gauntlet as a 40 player fight broke out. It's been over a month since FDev released their focused feedback in regards to Open Only Powerplay and we have not heard anymore updates from them. This game would be so much better if fights and situations like this were more common with open only.

It was awesome. I didn't make it into the main conflict zone there but engaged in a smaller fight in a separate instance. Really hoping both sides can muster those kinds of numbers again in the future.

Forcing players to Open won't work.

More working C&P and better engagement will.

How exactly would Crime and Punishment encourage large-scale PvP fights like the one shown in the OP? This happened because Winters was running its haulers in Open, enemy opposition comes in Open to try and shut them down, and other combat pilots engage to stop the opposition. In fact, most of the pilots there had "Report Crimes" disabled as per the usual PvP etiquette.

The OP is an example of what happens when the communities behind the powers all show up in Open to fight one another.

This is just not the game for that. I'm mostly playing solo because there is no incentive to play in open, and most importantly no C&P is in place.

Possible incentives:

- Player controlled politics (power play done right?)
- Player owned outposts to fight for
- Trading materials, commodities and modules between players
- Better instancing system
- Mission system that allows for sharing rank, repuration and money in the wing (no, not wing missions.)
- Dynamically generated USS where players are in normal space. Or better: Scanning mechanics to find players in normal space (and get rid of the USS placeholder)

C&P:

Make it almost impossible to attack players in high security systems, because ATR would immediately wake in to help and then gradually reduce the ATR response in lower security systems with none in anarchy systems (EVE has done this right).

For me, Elite is a single player game with some multiplayer aspects bolted on.

From what the OP said, there's no reason to restrict PP. It looks like everything is working out on it's own. Those people who were duking it out were there because they wanted to be there, doing that. Drop some players not interested in PvP into the mix, and you reduce the enjoyment overall. Let peeps play the way they want. It works.

This here!

OP..you didn't have PPOO...and you guys had a great time...this just seems like the PVP people needing to get together and play how they want...leaving the rest of the playerbase to play how they like...

And your screenshot shows 17 people....not 40.

What the op shows is that open only powerplay would make this the norm. Not the exception. Which would do wonders for powerplay and the game as a whole

This was a ridiculously good time, and a real indication of how good Open Only could be! It's amazing to see so many dedicated players in one place having fun. Some of Winters' haulers even got into the fray with our patented Murder Haulers(tm), again defying the "haulers can't fight" naysayers! :D

Doesn't get much better than this in Elite! Instancing even mostly held up; there were fewer crashes than I would've expected with 30+ people in the same place.

It certainly can be the norm...if you all made it the norm...rather than force people to stop playing PP (which is the outcome of PPOO). When the PVE players leave PP, it leaves you guys to grind out more and more....so PPOO will bring about more forced PVE for the proponents. Simple maths here.
