Amazing player interactions outside of community goals

This is an example and there is a reason why the most active pilots in powerplay and much of its leadership are pushing for open-only. We hope fights like this would be more frequent but having more pilots in open in general means more chance for encounters and successful ops and patrols that actually influence powerplay cycles. When a power sits and turret boats in PG all day there is a literally nothing you can do to stop their operation. 5th column activities are also a huge issue that right now look like can easily be addressed with open-only, especially for smaller powers without a huge playerbase.

While I understand your problems, PPOO is not going to fix them as I pointed out earlier. People who avoid Open because they don't like player interaction and PvP are not going to Open just because it now offers more player interaction and PvP.

I am not even against PPOO, I really don't care about it that much. It's just the silly arguments that keep me in the discussion...
 
Nice one OP. Yeah pp needs to be open only. Clear and overwhelming interest in it being so was shown in the official threads. There are a handful of loud voices against and they are known to be in the heavy minority. PP is pvp at its core and making it open only creates a heavy in game reason for it. We know this already. Op’s Post shows us what it could be like and it’s lovely.

It’s a shame you’ve not enough dignity to actually argue the points and instead must relegate yourself to intentionally misunderstanding the points that are made. Quite disingenuous of you.
 
FD have already said that feedback with reasons for or against is what is important.. Game design by committee is not a good idea imo..

Except design by (selected special discord users) committee is exactly what you appear to be after, pressuring FD to change a game principle by shouting the loudest.

I did so a few pages ago but apart from Rubbernuke nobody cared about an actual discussion. Don't judge my dignity, I got plenty.

FD have made a proposal I agree with.. I haven't pressured anyone.. And I don't think a few short responses in a discussion is really shouting tbh..
FD listen to feedback but in the end they make the game they want.. Blaming players for FD to proposing/making changes you don't agree with seems a bit bizarre to me tbh..

The proposal only came after years of people badgering FD to change the mode system; the constant squeeky wheel is what has made them consider this,nothing else.

There are a plethora of squeaky wheels providing feedback on this forum.. FD are considering it because they believe the suggestion has merit..

I can get why active groups in open are frustrated but the solution is still completely stupid.

Removing features is not development. In an ideal world Elite would have launched with a full fledged offline version like it was promised, but it isn't and you'll have to accept solo players being able to fully enjoy the game for this technical debt. I spend most of my time in open but as a consumer I wish Elite insolo was offline so I could enjoy the product I paid for an unlimited period. And it's the same for most other pvp games I play with the common request for private servers when support is dumped. By this logic I find it totally stupid to remove features from solo. And I find it totally hilarious to think people believes massive battles would spawn every prime time fridays because powerplay would be forced in open.

Also, be careful what you wish for. Planetside 2 went old really fast, yet it was F2P, less grindy and P2W, and with less factions to favor big battles. There was still a lot of ghost capping and zerging to make it dull and pointless. What do we have here, in Elite's massive sandbox? You'll have far more chances of big battles with community driven objectives like displayed in the OP. So props for those who coordinated the battle. It was fun to watch.

Removing powerplay from solo is such a lazy 'can't be bothered to really fix this' solution.

I'm sure there are other solutions to this problem other than removing stuff. FDev need to invest some time and effort (and creativity) in finding a proper solution even if it means a complete redesign. It might then actually get some decent player numbers.

If something doesn't fit or work as intended then sometimes it just doesn't work. Perfect example is solo/pg exploiters in powerplay. The entire system is setup with PvP in mind. From creating targets for enemies to attack and friendlies to defend (haulers), to creating dual objectives that need to be supported/opposed putting foes on the path to conflict and even special c&p rules.

The path of least resistance 5th column and regular opposition solo/pg exploiters take the desire to play our of the sails of many a player some before they even really start and that means a negative affect on the game ad a whole.

Fdev can obviously see this and thats why they proposed oopp at all. Most of the folks here who dont like that proposal already admitted it won't affect them as they dont participate. And any slippery slope argument about other features being next for open only was already squashed by fdev themselves.

For me, Elite is a single player game with some multiplayer aspects bolted on.

Same. And That's what I like about it. Ocassional interaction, not like in MMO when you arrive to town and you see 100's of ppl jumping around being silly.

Im aware its not an exploit by fdev standards. But i will still refer to it as such because it undermines the point of pp.

Of course only moving pp to open wont solve all the problems. But it is a very key component to pp having a healthy future in elite.
